I loved watching the horses being loaded! The last one, in the second lorry (not sure of the spelling on lorry), the fellow who loaded him, took off the headstall, and gave him a KISS & hug before getting off... That was SO SWEET. I can understand how people get attached to these marvelous steeds... I would kiss them too! BTW thank you gail and others who corrected my spelling of "lory"- I edited my comment and feel much better seeing it righted as "lorry." MANY THANKS!

Oh you have horses too. I came upon these videos and sent them to my sister. She was appalled at what these horses are subjected too. Heck one of hers, stepped on my foot, and she said,” Well Candy, you shouldn’t have been so close while m putting his saddle on.” She was right, I knew better. Happy riding! Oh, she’s trailed her up to St. Augustine Beach and gone riding…beautiful!

This isn’t a slant load. They are loaded straight but side by side. I don’t like this trailer. It’s too closed in, not enough ventilation, and the horses must get stressed because of way they are loaded they can’t shift their weight easily.

It’s a series that takes you through the extensive training of both soldiers ( man & horse ) You will see some of these guards doing their from day 1. Very interesting to watch. My respect went way up high in respect for both man & horse. The series is worth watching as you end up with a better understanding of the guards.

I think it's so that the mounted guards dismount at the same time. The first one on the horses neck means swing you right leg over leaving you with just your left foot in the stirrup and the second on the saddle is to take your left foot out of the stirrup and dismount. Like everything in the army it's done to look professionnel and smart.

The mounted guards on duty in the sentry boxes are from three different regiments. The ones wearing breastplates, white trousers, and long black boots, are from either the Lifeguards or the Blues and Royals. The Lifeguards wear red jackets and have white plumes on their helmets. The Blues and Royals wear black jackets and have red plumes on their helmets. These are their ceremonial dress uniforms, and their normal uniform is the khaki camouflage one as seen in the part of the video where the guards are loading their horses onto the horse boxes, ready for their annual trip to the seaside in Norfolk. They usually wear a black beret with their khakis. While the two Guards regiments are away, the guard duty is taken over by the Royal Horse Artillery company, who normally fire the big guns for birthday salutes etc in Hyde Park. They wear navy jackets with lots of gold-coloured trim on the front, black trousers with a red stripe down the outside of the leg, and hats which look like upturned plantpots, and which have a red flap on one side from the crown. I hope this is of some help to you Liz. 🙂

If we mean the same thing, then this is not a scar, but an imprint in the coat where the saddle has been. Apparently it was just removed shortly before transportation. What are "scars", however, are the white areas on and next to the withers. These are pressure and rubbing points from the saddle, where the fur will now always grow back white.

Our King takes a great interest in horses. It is not long since he gave up playing Polo. His father had little interest in horse racing yet was a champion with a horse and coach whereas the late Queen was mainly interested in racing.
