My father turned me onto Moe, back when I was a preteen in the 80's. In 2002, I went to Branson, & met Moe, at his stage. Front row ticket. Such a nice man, shook our hands, even got a few pictures of him singing this song. I bought one of his cd's, not sure if his side show man Hargis is still alive, he was funny. Good clean no filthy language comedian. I would recommend people to go & see.

I was listening to this over and over as I drove from LA California to Durango Colorado to see my girlfriend, it was the summer if 1982, I was 21 she was 19. The lyrics sort of matched the situation. This beautiful song It takes me right back to that drive and the free and simple time.

Good stuff there. The Good ol' Boy song (w/Joe Stampley) is also awesome. Country music had the best artists back then and earlier...I can listen to that stuff continuously, as opposed to what's out now...can only handle an hour or so before wanting to switch back to classic rock

This is a good song, but I prefer Suzy Bogguss's, which until now is the only version I've heard of this song. Usually the version you hear first is the one you'll prefer, imo. Now I am going down that rabbit hole to see if I can find the original, originally recorded clear back in 1963.

I lived in southern Colorado when I was about 10 years old. Moved there from the projects in Denver. We were there for 3 years, outside toilet, had to carry in water after hand pumping outside. My step dad never finished anything he started our outhouse didn’t have a roof on it. I remember sitting and looking at the beautiful stars at night, and I remember freezing my ass off after brushing the snow off. The winters were every bit as cold as Anchorage Alaska. I had 4 older brothers,we had the best summers ever looking for arrow heads and exploring the open fields around us. We worked hard ‘bucking bales’ onto a flatbed truck, I think we were paid 2 cents a bail. We also spent a lot of time gathering firewood (no chain saws) heat and cooking, mom made the best biscuits ever on that wood stove. We all learned how to work hard. I think our lives would have been different had we not moved to southern Colorado. Lots of memories come to mind when I here this song.

Yes Susie's version is definitely the best. She had a chance to digest Moe and Judy's version. And she really made it her own. But Mo brings a nice male perspective to the song. Moe could sing the phonebook and entertain you

I think if Ian Tyson had the insight to write this song from the girl’s experience and the balls to sing it that way, then every guy should too. It’s a cop out to change the song ‘cause you’re worried some drugstore cowboy is gonna think you’re queer. Grow a pair.

Have you ever rode a bull or a bronco? Moe has and did until he realized his brother Mike was better at it than he was, and he was better at singing. When you've ridden a bull or a bronc and stayed on it for eight seconds, then and ONLY then can you tell Moe to grow a pair; until then, kindly STFU. P.S. If you think every guy should sing it in the perspective of a woman, then you go first tough guy.
