being on the pill genuinely changed my life. that sounds dramatic but it eliminated my terribly heavy and painful periods, helped with my mild hormonal acne and most importantly, largely got rid of my PMDD and associated suicidal thoughts. be your own advocate and do what is best for you, always ❤ it isn’t the best option for everyone, but for some people, it is 🥰

I'm a Women's Health nurse, and I can tell you that the pill is one of the safest medications that we give. Yes, some people have side effects, but that is true for every single treatment modality available. As long as you're working with your provider (which you obviously are!) then you are doing the right things.

I love being on the pill lol. I got off due to my primary doctor scaring me, but when I talked to my actual gynecologist she said there’s a lot of misinformation even in the medical community about the safety of birth control. She gave me the green light to get back on, saying it’s actually one of the most studied medications, and I feel great. Glad you too are feeling better!

As someone who's been helped by the Pill herself, I hear you! My acne cleared up (when I was still young and oily enough to get it). I took it to regulate my heavy, crazy periods, but the cleared-up skin was a great side benefit. I missed it when I hit 35 and had to come off it. Some people do get bad side effects, but there are lots of different formulas, so if you're not feeling great on one, try another. I had to try a few before I finally found my jam.

Thank you so much for sharing about PMDD, anxiety and ADHD! I have generalized anxiety and severe PMS (likely not PMDD but hard to tell since I’m on birth control and an SSRI), so I really appreciate hearing stories from others who do as well. It can be so frustrating to go through finding the right medication for mental health issues, not to mention the right birth control! I’ve also found that the pill works best for me and has helped regulate my mood around my period in combination with my SSRI. Hope your anemia gets better quickly and the medication keeps working for you! Excited for moving content! 🎉❤

Take 2 ibuprofen about 30-60 minutes before your appointment. I personally didn't experience the excruciating pain upon insertion of my IUD, but I did get one after having kids so I think my pain tolerance has been skewed by giving birth. But removal was less painful then insertion for what it's worth. I'm glad that you have found what works for you, Sarah!

No, not having to move again!!! 😩 I'm so sorry Sarah! I saw your recent vlog and when you said you were moving I thought it must be for something you couldn't change, like being reno-victed, and when you said mould, I agree, that's not something you mess around with. I also am not a summer lover, and I find I get bummed more easily in summer because I am easily affected by heat, and I am much more exuberant in autumn-spring. A good thunderstorm perks me up too!

Not to be dramatic but the birth control pill saved my life. I get menstrual migraines that can last for over a week. Not only am I in excruciating pain, but I get a ton of other symptoms too, with heightened anxiety and depression among them. Taking birth control diminishes the migraines and those symptoms by over half! So glad you're feeling better with the pill, too ❤

Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing so openly about your situation. I have PCOS myself and I was told not to stop the pill as the hormone imbalance might damage my ovaries on top of other symptoms that can occur. As I have spoken to different doctors about this and all of them told me more or less the same, I never considered stopping it. I was now surprised to learn that one can stop taking the pill even with PCOS. Anyway, it is great to hear that you are feeling better when taking it and I wish you all the best🤗.

I can relate to the moving thing. I’m in my 40’s now and I’ve moved almost every year. I can’t even count the number of places. Last year I said it was my last time moving for a while and because the neighborhood ended up having crime issues, I had to move again, ugh. I’ve been in my new place for two weeks and fingers crossed I can stay here at least 3 years! Good luck!

I wish that hormonal birth control worked for me the same way that it works for others. I get all the negative side effects, and it is not worth the small positive effects. I even tried an IUD because the hormonal IUD has the hormones localized instead of systemic, but even that, I had those same negative side effects. I am so jealous of the people who have a good experience with it. Happy for you that you found something that works for you!

Thank you for this video! I'm much older than you (51), and have struggled with mental health (bipolar depression) for my whole life. I've tried at least a dozen different psych meds, with very little success. I took the pill for years, then switched to an IUD in my 40's, which I've since had removed. Still not in menopause, and I get terrible periods. None of my treatment providers have ever suggested a connection between hormones and my depression and it never even occurred to me. I'm in the process of getting all new treatment providers (darned health insurance), and am definitely going to ask both my new psychiatrist and ob/gyn if going back on bc might help!

Really glad that birth control is helping you - health is so individual and it’s important to work with credible providers, ideally that will take concerns/symptoms seriously, and find the right treatment options. You probably already had your procedure but for anyone else with similar concerns, I had my paraguard removed recently (after using it for 10 years) and it was really quick and not very painful and I didn’t experience much pain afterwards either. I was also worried out about getting it removed because the placement was very painful for me as well BUT I also learned from my current provider that they can prescribe a cerv. softening agent to help reduce pain during placement which should be standard practice (it isn’t yet, so you may need to request this option). It’s helpful to hear about your experiences and I hope this knowledge and awareness can allow us all to better advocate for ourselves and our health.

I’m so happy you have found relief with the pill both for your acne and your PMDD. Our mental health is so important and when something works, stick with it! It might be easy to get to a point where you will want to come off it because you feel better, but that’s kind of the Catch-22. It’s easy to have that false sense of security when we’re feeling better to think it’s ok to come off the medication without giving credit to the medication for its effectiveness. I hope that makes sense. I don’t mean to imply that you’ll have to be on hormones your entire life, but just take it year by year and, with the guidance of your doctors, I hope you’ll always feel as good as you do today! I’ve struggled for a long time with panic attacks and anxiety but when I was growing up we were just supposed to “deal with it”. I’m now in menopause and, oddly enough, I’m hearing the same “deal with it” narrative. Thankfully there are more women that are being vocal about menopause and not accepting this as “just the way it is”. I finally went to a specialist to get some help with hormone therapy. It was embarrassing to talk about, but she made me feel very comfortable and I definitely felt like I wasn’t the only one anymore. I’m thankful that you’re sharing your experience and I know it will help someone in your audience (or maybe even someone that isn’t yet in your audience!). These are difficult discussions to have but the more we talk about it and the more people like you who are in an “influential” position bring it into the light, the more people can be helped to feel better, physically and emotionally/mentally. I don’t think you intended for your video to be a public service announcement, but yay!! Good for you!! And thank you!! Have a wonderful day and I’m sorry you have to move. I also hate moving…moved around a lot as a kid (5 times in one summer!😮) so I completely sympathize! Sorry this is so long. Take care!❤

I stayed on the pill for years! It helped me transition to menopause, and would not have done anything different. So sorry you have to move. But it's definitely best to move if there is mold. That can do so much damage to your health.😢

Ugh, I wish birth control had worked on my PMDD and periods, but sadly it didn't. I got an endometrial ablation nearly 3 years ago now and it's been the best decision I ever made. ☺️

Do you have an air purifier? I bought one to improve the air quality in my home. I'm always congested and my kitty too is suffering from allergy congestion and the purifier is definitely helping!

Chiming in to second using an air purifier - we have an older home and it has helped improve air quality and reduce pet hair/dander. Also has come in handy when either myself or my partner has gotten sick so we can reduce the risk of passing germs to each other.

Yes! I find the demonization of the bc pill crazy. Of course some people have issues, but all medications have side effects. Millions of women are it, there are bound to be issues. I need my pill because of my period vomiting and passing out. Been on it 12 years and no plan to go off until menopause ❤

Exactly, the fear mongering has gotten out of control on social media. I try to remind myself that for every horror story, there are at least 10 people who have had a good or even life saving experience from birth control!

@@SarahRoseBeauty I completely agree. I've been on the pill for over 15 years and it's been life changing for me. If you're ever up for it, Mama Doctor Jones has an excellent video debunking some of the misinformation around birth control here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dJtopclyd9DViso.html

Not sure how you would update this but I’m curious to know how your IUD removal goes. I thought I needed to get mine replaced earlier this year but my doctor said new research showed I could keep it in another couple years, which I was relieved about but also I know later I’ll eventually need to get it replaced and I also am not looking forward to having it touched in any way 😅 also good luck I hope it goes well!!!

I also went back on the pill for mental health and acne reasons, and its been good to me so far. Eventually I'll get another hormonal IUD, I think. Also, have you considered autism as a differential diagnosis for ADHD? It's really quite under-diagnosed, especially in people raised as female. I'm autistic with GAD, and also without ADHD so thats why it comes to mind for me. For many years I thought I had ADHD, turns out I dont lol

I don't usually comment on videos but omg, I'm only partly thru and I have so many thoughts 😅 No horror stories here tho! When I was in grad school my apartment had a mold problem, which I didn't find out about until after being mysteriously sick for months. When I moved out and into the house I'm in now, I immediately felt much better and my 2 cats also seemed more energetic and happier in general. Also I had the apartment health inspected and they basically didn't care at all so I just moved. I was incredibly lucky to have been able to move as soon as I found out about the mold and it was shocking to see how sick I was from it. 1000% good to move asap! Sorry for the essay but I was not aware of having that bad of a mold allergy prior to my experience and it made me super sick so I always want to warn anyone else who may encounter mold, so that no one else deals with it either 😅

PMDD is terrible. At times it has felt like a disability. I’m on psych meds for something else but it really helps not feel like garbage. I’ve actually wondered if the other diagnosis is just incorrectly diagnosed PMDD 😒

you prob have already removed your IUD but let me share my story. I felt nothing to remove it. It was painful to insert, as usually is but felt zero pain to remove. Any discomfort I felt was more because of the inexperience of the resident that assisted me (my fam doc is in a teaching hospital so you can be seen by a trainee or their supervisor and IUD removal is considered an easy task). The trainee had never removed one so it took a very long time (meanwhile I am there, positioned if you know what I mean) but she end up asking her supervisor to come in to remove it cuz she couldnt. So what was supposed to be a quick 5-10 min procedure (all in all included) took about an hour LOL but again, no pain at all!!!! I hope yours was uneventful as well :)

Everyone's biology is different. One person's horror story could be the cure for another person. It 's good to know to look out for signs but it does not mean it applies to you unless you relate. and really, how many people are put there writing reviews saying "yup I'm on it, works. nbd"
