I was brought up in Higher Tranmere in the 60s. Went to Noctorum Girls School on the Woodchurch Estate in the early 70s. I loved my childhood in Birkenhead. Full of hustle & bustle & going to New Brighton, New Ferry Open Bath's, Bebington, Port Sunlight & so many more great places. The Ferries , the most wonderful way to travel to work on a summer's morning. You can't take your great childhood memories away.

Loving your work Bill, I'm from Aberdeen but have friends on both sides of the Mersey, spent a good few weekends in Wallessey enjoying the ale with good company. First bar I went to was the lighthouse, was shocked when i heard about that young girl Elle getting shot there (R.I.P.)

I live in the Birkenhead area. It's had its ups and downs. There was actually a documentary about the town on KZread. It was on TV back in the 90's called painting the town blue. That's when it was a lot more violent. But one thing I can say about the town, is its still very old school. You can have a big argument with someone, even when it comes to fisticuffs, a few hours later, you can shake hands and become mates, just like in the good old days.. other places, you have a disagreement and then someone will come back with a weapon and kill you. I don't get that vibe where I am. I suppose I'm lucky where I am conpared to some places.

Your right about it being more violent in 80,s an 90,s, all mad places were much more violent then. A lot of people and the media always say it is more violent in today's age. It deffo isn't but one thing that today is, is that the violence today is much more lethal and deadly with the use of guns and knives much more common as back then. I grew up in speke an then bootle and nearly every other different road you would go down there was always a barney or stones getting thrown an loads if aggression. It seems today that the average law abiding young person is much more safer than the kids was in 70,s 80,s an 90s

The woodchurch was one of the first housing estates built to house families whos houses had been destroyed by bomb damage in ww2. Thousands of homes around central birkenhead, tranmere and rockferry where destroyed by german blitzs. As far as housing estates go the woodchurch was designed with the people in mind i believe it won awards at the time it was built for having such a good design

I'm from Liverpool but love the woody estate. It's the biggest estate on the Wirral and reminds me a bit of my estate I grew up on in speke which is liverpools biggest estate. The woody has a much better community togetherness than speke does these days tho which is probably due to where each estate is. The woody is an estate on the edge of a large town and still mostly has the same families living there from decades ago. Speke tho had a massive amount of people leave around the 80,s, 90,s an early 2000,s due to crime and also taking advantage of the housing market that went silly so they got massive profits on their houses that they bought off the council for buttons. Anyway I think speke is fully populated again but due to being in a big city and sort of cheap rents it has attracted a lot of foreigners which has further decreased the community feel as people are ignorant and have racist views an that.

I grew up in Ellesmere Port South Wirral. Last stop on the Wirral line. Ellesmere Port has rough areas especially over the Wezzy Bridge area near the train station and other estates scattered across the town. Although I do remember big groups of lads coming down from Birkenhead and Rock Ferry looking for trouble. I'm talking around the 2005-2008 period. There was quite a few incidents of trouble between the different towns along the wirral. A few of us (14 year old lads) ended up in the back of police vans one night after lads from Rock Ferry came down. We did always see B'head and the areas in the north of the Wirral to be more deprived and rough compared to Ellesmere Port though. All these places need some money spending on them and sorting out.

Originally from the ford. Grew up there during the smack epidemic. I was lucky. Both my parents worked. We actually bought the house then sold it to move to Wallasey, looking back a lot of my school mates had fuck all. It was a rough, tough estate at the time. The center of the smack epidemic in Wirral. - vigilantly sqauds were set up by parents to push the dealers out. - dad was involved wirh a lot of other men who'd burst doors because the police wouldn't. The mums set up help groups for families ravaged by the smack. Sharp in Liverpool was born from this.. - my Dad had a lot of respect on the estate, tough old school man, 20 years in the navy then onto the prision system. It was bizarre being with him an people called him sir. He was a screw for HMP in Walton and did some work in Belfast an starangeways. - i assume he was a decent one. Because people he locked up would chat with him on the estate and throw darts with him in the boozer. It wasn't all bad we had cracking neighbours who my mum is still mates with to this day even though she lives in Cornwall. Bill, there's two cracking documentaries worth checking out filmed in the 80s around the ford and the North End. (people from the ford will never call it beechwood) its just like when they changed the name of canny farm to make it sound a better area.....

Canny Farm not only had to have its name changed an like the Ford they knocked down some of the heights but not all of them and knocked down all the maisonettes and flats. I've heard that some parts of the estate were really dangerous. Not sure if this is true but someone told me that in a certain dangerous part they knocked the street lights out so it would help them while grafting and at some point you would have to whistle and say your name cus there was a high risk of being mugged.

@LIVERPOOLandFARBEYONDNEWS

Hope to bump into you one day Billy fair play love the channel bro!

Just got round to watching the film about Billy, A LOT better than i thought it would be.

Phil bimpson lives on the Wirral originally from Liverpool, hes put a few shows on the new Brighton pavilion the most well known one was the wall (pink Floyd) hes made a few documentaries aswell, sound fella.

I was told it was down to them looking through the binoculars you get on pier, so them closing one eye to look at liverpool is where the name come from. I’m a Brummy & heard this off a screw in HMP Liverpol where I worked as a orderly on the hospital wing. Mate, I seen things on that hospital wing a lot on here would call me a liar !! Absolutely wild little wing mate
Jedi Knight from star wars luke skywalker was a jedi darth vaders side were from the dark side the opposing side to the main crew han solo chewbacca etc...is that why they're called jedi because of the dark side haha...just guessing sounds about right..
Darkside... Soon as scouser earns a few quid, where do they go, straight to Caldy, Hoylake, West kirby, Heswall.😅 LIGHTSIDE, FAR FAR NICER. Not really even debateable. 🤷♂️🎯
What ye know Bill you never bumped into a storm trooper over at the dark side.😂Billy there called Jedi,s. because there from the dark side ,From film star wars 😉
