Some of my favorite roses at the flower farm!

Regenerative gardening course: blossomandbranchfarm.teachabl...
Flower arranging course: blossomandbranchfarm.teachabl... We have grown a lot of roses over the years (my favorite are the pinky peachy roses, clearly!), and I've learned the qualities that I like in a cutting rose in the flower garden--less blooms on each stem, few thorns, disease resistance, and I like a lot of petals on my roses! In this video I'll go through the ones I like the best in the garden (as well as some I don't like as much and why). We'll be eliminating some of these this year (Moonlight in Paris and State of Grace), and trialing a few more.
The roses I'm keeping this season include David Austin's Roald Dahl, Queen of Sweden, Lady of Shallott, Desdemona, and Earth Angel.
Which one of these garden roses do YOU like the best? Let me know in the comments!

I just got 4 David Austin roses this spring! 2 queen of Sweden, Desdemona, and Generous Gardener. I love them too! My queen of Sweden just gave off its first blooms. I put it in bare root this spring. I’m going to put garlic around them this fall thanks for the idea. I don’t have a very big yard so that will be nice use of space. :)

I have always loved DA Jude the Obscure. I grow Elephant Garlic as a perennial - a very affordable alternative to ornamental alliums.

I have hundreds of plants, but no roses. I have never bought a rose. It looks like Earth Angel may be the one to start with. I need one that is disease resistant, almost thorn-free, reblooming or long-blooming and scented! I do find myself more attracted to photos of climbing roses.

May I ask what zone you are in? I've just stumbled across your channel and subscribed. I ordered Queen of Sweden from david austin and I'm in zone 8a. Im hoping my rose will do well here. I have full sun areas as well as dappled shade and part shade. Im just not sure where to put her. Any ideas would be much appreciated. 🥰

I love all of those! My surprise favorite last year was a buttery yellow/white one called White Licorice. This has been my June without roses however because I got an infestation of rose weavels and have been disbudding the plants to make them move on. along with picking them it seems to be working so hopefully will salvage the season!

If you're after something like Julia's Rose, try Soul Sister, a Floribunda Rose.

Love all your roses❤ I have a couple David Austin roses in my garden, and am falling in love with Kordes roses this year. Wondering how do you keep thrips pressure at bay? Can’t cut my roses as much as I’d like because of thrips. I do interplant herbs (basil, lavender, Russian sage) & geraniums & alliums nearby, but that doesn’t seem to help😢

If you're growing roses in containers is it still beneficial to plant alliums in other pots near them or do they have to be in the same container?

Thanks for the lovely tour! ❤️🌹❤ Just starting out with roses and am overwhelmed by all of the names! What resources do you use to research roses and their characteristics? Beyond visiting the websites of the companies, I have not found a good way to learn the attributes of each rose. I would really appreciate any help you could provide.👩🏻‍🌾

A lot of the time it is just a matter of trying them, as roses behave differently in different climates and soils-I like to stick with ones that perform well in my heavy clay!

It's pronounced Lady of sha·luht. It's "shalott". Not shallot like the vegetable. LOL! :) One of my favorite poems by Tennyson
