Solving The Issue Of Cold Feet In Ski Boots | VPECS TECHNOLOGY

Спорт

If you could ski all day long and never have cold feet how good would that be? Well Henrik Bjursten has come up with a system that could solve this issue in all ski boots around the world. In this podcast interview between Tom Gellie and Henrik you will hear about the exciting new system he has developed to help solve the issue of cold feet in ski boots. As a bonus it may also help improve your balance and control on your skis! For more information about VPECS technology visit his site www.vpecstechnology.com

As a high arch foot owner and experiencing plenty of 'foot shutdowns' over the years, this sounds promising. Good luck with the integration into the boot manufacturing industry 👍

I have a very high arch. With new boots, I've always used vice-grips to flatten down the section of the tongue to increase the available space in this exact area so that my foot doesn't immediately freeze. I would suggest people also look at Zipfit liners, that cut out this section of the tongue, for exactly this reason.

Interesting subject. Keeping up blood flow is certainly a big part of keeping feet warm. Extremities are the first the body will restrict blood flow to so the core will stay warm. So you still need to make sure your core is kept warm.

Henrik I own a boot-fitting shop in Calgary and am interested in the tongue you've designed. Independent foam tongues have been available and used for years. They don't address the problem you have identified but they are available separately from a complete liner, and can be sold and added to existing boots by an experienced fitter to improve fit. I think it is another marketing and sales approach that could be used by you as another method to sell your tongues into the marketplace in addition to licensing the technology to boot manufacturers.

Louis, Thanks for your feedback. I have been thinking on addressing the (smaller) after-market liner market first. However, I have found it hard to get a grip on who the players are and the size of the market.

@@Henke786 Henrik, I meant to reply long ago and it slipped my mind. I have no way to tell you how large the market is but I'm certain there is a market. Especially if you make a reasonable marketing effort. Frozen feet are a constant problem especially here in the great frozen tundra of Canada. But elsewhere as well. Marzia Sport in Italy makes Zipfit liners. Their quality is excellent if you are looking for a manufacturer. It is also possible Zipfit North America based in Aspen may be interested in your product. They already have distribution open. Good luck. I would love to try one of your tongues if they become available. Just let me know costs and I'll send you a shipping address.

As a bit of a hack boot fitter, I find this interesting. My feet are low volume and they never get cold. However, in the last season, I did begin getting numb toes on my 4th and 5th metatarsals both skiing and cycling. In my case, I suspect the pressure is somewhere up the chain from the foot. My first thought is the lumbar spine and the hip but I haven't done any experimentation yet to try and figure it out. But this totally makes sense in terms of the high volume foot that is under considerable pressure in nearly every ski boot.

Interesting that you experience the same problem on cycling shoes, as I think VPECS could improve those shoes as well

This has always seemed so necessary to me. I have a high arch and spend a bunch of effort trying to hack this into normal liners with limited success.

Thanks for sharing. Just go for the market of us choosing to buy liners away from the bootmakers to start with. Even perhaps just adding the vspec on the toungh that is replacable.

My feet are more flat and wide. My boots stay warm. A high arch is going to push down the blood flow. Supports the flatter beds. I have some thin leather. I'm still dropping tension in the boots. It's got to be about your own foot anatomy.

I think you are spot on. A low means little pressure on the dorsal pedal artery and hence warm feet. The cost is bad grip
