    Matatus will never be a solution. Even if we create 1M bus terminals, they won't be of help. We need overhead trains, trams, and commuter rail to every direction. Additionally, government should relocate its core functions to other cities. That way we, the government can facilitate modernization of infrastructure in other cities as well as the development of advanced road infrastructure connecting these cities.

  • @binnyosh5630
    @binnyosh56303 жыл бұрын

    I really do appreciate the work NMS is doing when it comes to roads. I just have a few concerns. 1. The drainages being left open on the sides of the roads can be hazardous if not covered for the most part especially during the rainy season. Those drainages left open can also be invitation for people to litter pour waste which in turn ends up in Nairobi river again. I think we should consider covering most of it and only enough space for drainage of rain water. I don't think water needs that much open space. One more item I forgot to mention, road safety. It is a nightmare driving in Nairobi, not only because of horrible drivers, they are everywhere in the world, but by fully enforcing traffic laws. Those drainages if left open can also be invitation for people to litter or pour waste which in turn ends up in Nairobi river again. I think we should consider covering most of it and only enough space for drainage of rain water. I don't think water needs that much open space. Otherwise all of these roads and others still do not give investors much confidence unless they feel security is strong. All the developed countries have invested heavily in their security. I don't want to forget political stability. Investing in controlled raffic lights in all busy intersections in the city, not just downtown and stop signs in less busy streets can make a huge difference. Then Enforce those rules by making people pay or end up in court for traffic violations, you see improved roads safety and a return in investment from those paying traffic fines. We can do this since it will add another direct revenue stream for the county which will in turn be used to boost pay for our police, other civil servants and also invest in better equipment

    When people compare Nairobi to other cities like Seoul or Paris or which ever city, they forget to show us how widespread the buildings are apart from each other. In Nairobi the buildings are too close and the streets too narrow. No matter how much they try to fix the traffic problem and they ignore the buildings design, there will still be congestion. We need to take government out of Nairobi to Isiolo then demolish some buildings to create more space. Nairobi will still be the business capital. Otherwise Nairobi will degenerate into a high rise slum.

    Their is the issue of bad manners. Especially by kiuks in Nairobi. In there minds . walkways , roadsides. Bridges. Pap they put a wheelbarrows, clothes, matatus. Causing traffic and pedestrians deaths.

    We will never have a beautiful, orderly country until we want and demand better quality. A country where people worship political mediocrity, corruption, chaos, and tribalism is a place of utter chaos. It isn't shocking to see the mess on Nairobi streets due to ugly, lawless matatus that are owned by well connected individuals at the behest of the mwanachi who ironically supports these people. Our brothers and sisters from the slopes need to be called out for the matatu and hawker menace in the capital.

    Matatu problem was man made the late president moi may his soul continue resting in peace wanted the town of Eldoret to be the capital so the 1st thing he did was create chaos in the capital city of Nairobi,we had double decker stage coach buses that used to transport passengers in and out of the city but the poor states of the roads made the company move to Botswana his ally were also the only people who were licensed to import the so called Dubai junk cars

    I think the long term solution would be to plan by opening up other undeveloped areas that are outside Nairobi so that people don't have to come to Nairobi from all corners of the country in the name of looking for money. Nairobi is what it is because it was not planned for the future. There is limited space for expansion etc

    wehen will they understand they have to get rid of matatus, nd Kenya need something like in Germany where all cars are checked every 2 years to see if they are still fit to drive and the amount of exhaust fuse its releasing. if the vehicle fails the test it doesn't get the stamp and can't drive on the road. this way we will reduce pollution

    Well for them its like moving the capital from mombasa city to Nairobi city which we did 100 years ago. The thing is we develop other towns and distribute resources equally. Relocating the capital will not stop the new city from congestion.
