My personal theory is that the Spinosaurus was actually a prototype for the Indominous. It’s easily overlooked, but there’s some lines of dialogue following its first attack, where Alan and Billy talk about how the Spino wasn’t on InGen’s original list of cloned dinosaurs, with Alan wondering what else they’ve been up to. This is never followed up on in JPIII. However, in Jurassic World, were introduced the Indominous, which is revealed to secretly be a dinosaur developed for use as a weapon under the guise of a new attraction. The Spinosaurus’ behavior then makes sense, because it too was developed as a weapon, hybridized for greater aggression, which causes it to forgo normal predatory behavior in favor of persistently attacking the creatures it was created to hunt and kill…human beings.

I will never stop loving the Spino, it sucks that this movie essentially got such a bad rap for having the Spino kill the Trex that in the newest installments they just never brought it back, and even took a slight dig at it with the Trex crashing into the Spino skeleton in Jurassic World

Agreed. I’ve always loved the spino. It’s so badass. It always has been and always will be one of my favorite movie monsters. I think it’s ridiculous that people hate it just because it killed some random tyrannosaurus (there’s no way it’s the same tyrannosaurus from the first movie. It wasn’t even on the same island).

It was going to be in the eruption flee scene but ultimately decided to scrap the idea for some reason. Theres even concept art showing the two still fighting as they’re fleeing the volcanic eruption.

There is no reason to hate spinosaurus. It is not absurd for a dinosaur that went crazy because of its baby and past experiences to kill a trex. People get too attached to the first thing they see. Trex is one of them and it is not invincible. But some fanboys thought Trex was invincible because of the first two movies.

Well a lore friendly answer could be Bengal tiger DNA. They've been documented as following hunters over extreme distances for revenge over a stolen kill. But that doesn't quite pull at the heart strings the same way.

I don't know much of the lore of the spino , but Its aggression against the humans makes me wonder if it wasn't a earlier attempt at weaponizing dinosaurs, I think I remember that in lore the records of the spino were kept of the official records.

I could've sworn I read somewhere that the stuff that splatters on the windshield of the plane wasn't blood but hydraulic fluid. I know blood makes sense so it would further the plot but I'm hoping this isn't a Mandela effect

It'd have the two sides of the coin: the Spino lost its hatchling, while the Raptors manage to get theirs back as for the Kirby's they're in that limbo of "Will they end up losing their child like the Spino or will they all manage to survive?"

I remember seeing a few other theories too: One being that the one hit by the plane actually dies, due to the actual severity of its injuries, making the pursuing one the mate intent on revenge. Also, very few moments of the Spino seem like its deliberately there as opposed to simply being wrong place, wrong time. I saw a theory about the scene in the clearing with the phone was that the dinosaur had been asleep and was woken up during the commotion of the reunion.

Imagine a severely burned spino returning to its nest, sneaking up on the horde of compys feasting on the decomposing juvenile spinos. Too injured to kill any compys, it trips and crashes next to it’s dead offspring, taking its last breath.

I like the theory that there were two, humans tortured them. When they got free they had babies which were killed by the Mercs. The one that grabs cooper actually dies when hit by the plane which leaves only one adult with no mate and no babies, this is why it's so vengeful.

The spino hunted humans because they shot the spino's offspring in a deleted scene and theres a 2nd theory they damaged its sail

They could have had Nash briefly mention, as they were getting back on the plane, that Cooper shot a baby dinosaur after it bit him and now it's mother is pissed off. Boom. That's all it would take to explain it.

The Spinosaurus has always been one of my favorite dinosaurs from the Jurassic franchise! I'm so sad and angry that this incredible dino was NOT featured in Dominion! Who would've loved to see this dinosaur battle with the Giganotosaurus, Rexy, and the Therizinosaurus? I would have! Great video today, Shadows! I absolutely love your videos! Keep up the great work! I'm a huge fan of yours, as you already know! Edit: Can you please do a video about the Apatosaurus, the dinosaur that was originally supposed to be at the beginning of the 1993 movie, and why it was replaced by the Brachiosaurus?

Honestly now that I think about it, having the Spino come in to aid Rexy’s battle against Giga, it would been more epic than Therizino fight with him. The whole element behind the Giga and Rexy was a rivalry of the past brought back to life. And seeing how shook the JP community got and split them on Team Rex or Team Spino, it would been a great way to bring an end to that rivalry amongst the community and bring them back together. And Rexy and Spino would just part ways and not attack each other. Also if they portrayed the duo tossing around Giga for the final showdown, the Spino doing the same neck snap on Giga as a call back to when he did it with the Rex in JP3 would’ve been epic.

Actually I thought it would make a better dinosaur antagonist in dominion. Imagine it locks eyes with Alan and he has this look of shock seeing the same dinosaur that hunted him across sorna.

The franchise isn't over yet hopefully in future films the spinosaurus would return maybe not the original but, perhaps clones of him.

I wanna see Spino fight the indominus rex, just head to head, they would be so equal, both being utterly massive, both having long arms and claws, and both having an innate killing instinct, I’m rooting for spino!

Spino wouldn't win. As much as I love the spino it was more aquatic and usually ate fish. It's jaw wasn't as strong as other carnivors. It could do decent damage but wouldn't win

my theory to maybe make the reason why it having it's sail/side clipped by the plane make it so angry is since it was made in secret on another island and there seems to only be one of them it could have been extremely unstable, not to mention the mistreatment that it went through with the humans on sorna. so something as small as getting clipped by the plane could have caused it to have a huge meltdown and hunt them down because of possible trauma that it went through and it wants to rid of what could possibly ever hurt it. it may seem minor to us but to the spino it could have been a lot more than that

Spino was an Apex Predator, and he recognized Humans as rival Apex Predators. That's my simple theory. 😅 Already did damage to him once, so... he was mad.

well with how Coppa came out of the woods with a bleeding arm that there was a baby spinosaurus involved and he killed it which made the parent Spinosaurus upset and killed Coppa and seek revenge against Coppa, but they didn't have it on-screen , and it chased the others around because of the scientists from before and not wanting to be caught and tortured again. so can be two theories on one dino in one movie but sad that they didn't have the Spinosaurus in jplw

I always thought eric said, it scares the little ones, but attracts one real big one. pretty vague from my memory, ill have to rewatch it. what my point is, could the "big one" just be a bigger trex? another male trex catching that scent would want to size it up and challenge it imo.

Spinosaurus, may not have been accurate but it certainly was fresh and it brought in a far more menacing horror element kind of similar to what we got in the second film with the raptors in the tall grass. Where as the first film had to share that element around to all the various dinos, having this singular force being the focus made it memorable

I like the idea of JP3 revolving around parents and children. Between the Kirbys and the Sorna raptors so the concept of killing a Spino infant would really drive home the movie, having a heavy theme of parents wanting to protect their children. The Spino having failed which could be seen as Erick being presumed dead realistically and the raptors never stopping to find thier eggs like the Kirbys do. Kinda full circle I guess?

If more time had been given to the script, it's entirely possible to write in the death of a baby Spino without actively involving a scripted encounter with a baby Spino. Billy has demonstrated he is opportunistic when he stole the raptor eggs to sell - if Ben and Eric successfully landed on the island, Ben could have stolen a Spino egg for similar reasons. While removing the packed parachute off Ben's body, Billy would have found a broken Spino egg on him, either cautioning him what could happen to him if he attempts to steal eggs, or more likely giving him the idea to do so. Tragically Ben's actions drove the mother Spino into relentlessly hunting humans which, unlike the raptors, can't be stopped because there is no longer an egg to return.

Dude, that's so much better. It really would have made the rex fight better. The spino had an anime rage boost. Someone should shoot that scene so we can fan edit it in.

What if before the events of JP3, the spinosaurus used to live on the area where JP2 took places and lived with other spinos but the hunters took down those spinos causing the spinosaurus to grow aggressive and ran to the other area where JP3 takes place.

It's the only one. There was supposed to be a team that arrived sometime between 2 and 3 . They brought with some samples and grew a few unique dinosaurs. One being the spino.. I can't exactly remember where the source was. Clayton Fioris channels is where I read it

More likely it triggered territorial behavior. There is no chance it actively hunted another apex predator. Not how animals behave. Fight for resources, breeding rights? Sure.

1) The Spino is Petty/Revenge even as massive as it is a Plane that size “clipping” your Sail and Tail would hurt like a SOB 2)Been a while since I saw JP3 but could their been 2 Spino like the Rexes in JP2 with the Spino mate Injured it could see the Humans as a threat(originally or in a prior script the Raptors were to kill the Spino) 3) Just plot and introduction of a new big bad Dino 4) When they run into the T Rex eating(some predators mark their kills) and it could chase them for them getting some on themself(in JP2 what’s her name had Baby Rex blood on her throughout and was chased)

Especially its dorsal fin. People need to understand, that if that spine is significantly damaged the Spinosaurus would die. It was probably the closest thing the Spino experienced to having its life endangered. And it was not letting that go.

look i know we wanna just try and look at what we have, but seriously we have to accept the reality. The reality of what was going behind the scenes. This movie did not have the best management going on. I seriously wouldn't look at the spinosaurus as anything written more than a literal villian.

They should have had the people find a document of its baby dying due to past experimentation and hating all humans because of it.

I agree with the last theory more than anything. I get that they scrapped the idea completely, but I think that's the hidden motive still. I genuinely believe to this day since I first watched JP3 is that Cooper did indeed kill a baby Spino when the other two ran back to the plane. I've noticed that when Cooper begs the pilot to stop, he has a lot of regret and the "oh shoot. I messed up really badly. " expressions on his face. Much like Billy who stole raptor eggs when he hung from the cliff. They had similar facial expressions because they knew they made terrible choices in the thick of it. I would side with the Spino at that point then. A parent getting revenge for their child is relatable in a lot of ways. This alllllll could've been prevented if Ben didn't take Eric on a parasail trip to Isla Sorna. You'd think that's common sense, lol. Gee? There's a private island owned by a private company that specializes in Dino genetics. Perfect place for a memorable trip with Stepson. I guarantee at the beginning Ben was like, "Best Stepdad ever 💪🏼." Then it all the shites hit all the fans. 😂

I like the Baby Spino and the Spino being the prototype of Indominous theories the best, especially if they're actually combined. Spino being an experimental prototype of hybrid dinosaur, but unlike Indy wasn't as mentally crazy/sick/lost as Indy because there was a less mixture of unnatural DNA in its genetic makeup, allowing more natural Spino instincts to balance out. When it escaped/released from captivity, Spino quickly found it's place in the natural order of Isla Sorna, proving that it can take on major threats like the T-Rex and settled down comfortably. Probably having given birth to a baby on its own and was contented with its place in life.

I think the indom Rex has spino DNA because the way the indom is very aggressive, the spino was aggressive and both the indom and spino broke out from their enclosure.

They say in the movies & book that they are mixed with DNA of modern day reptiles, no one in the book or movie claims the dinosaurs are historically accurate.

I think Steven just wanted a monster thriller but dinosaur style.

I mean, it’s not impossible that the spino was acting purely on revenge for its fin/tail. There are tales of tigers that have stalked and killed people who harmed them just for revenge.

Wild idea. What if the spino was created to act like a guard dog for biosyn. It’s hyper aggression and willingness to chase prey for miles even outside of its territory. By all means it’s a near unstoppable killer taking on the rex with little issue any of the raptors or cerato would be taken out with ease. More than likely with it breaching the fences like we see in the movie and it attacking the biosyn team leaving them to also abandon the island

I think they should've kept it in and let the viewer decide... either way, whichever wins... it's all raw animalistic nature. Would a trex care if a stegasaurus was on a revenge mission if it was hungry or saw the steg as encroaching on it's territory?!? If anything they shoulda made some animosity between a couple of the dinosaurs, giving the viewers anticipation of future big dino fight "grudge matches" on the horizon. Literally Dino Drama Island!!!

I think that just a little change in its concept design by being covered in many, many scars. It would have given the information of being a lunatic animal that attacks everything it sees until its dead. Including a T-Rex, which was completely unnatural. An apex doesn't attack other apex if there's not another option just to not be injured. But it being full of scars, would have given the information that it didn't gave half a shit about being injured but only for the thrill of kill, or something. And if there was some more budget and plot to give more, just adding an scenario where many animals are killed, getting rotten or scavenged and just one having being eaten by a large animal, would also have given the final clue.

While I'm no psychic, I believe at the time the Spino considered the first hybrid. Related to some old Wu reports mentioning mixing a dinosaur with a bird to get feathers or something. But it's well believed the Spinosaurus is just incredibly territorial and fights Apex's at any given chance due to its hybridastion making it more aggressive. Personally don't know much up that Scorpio Rex but in terms of original intention the Spinosaurus just being angry is pretty valid

I always wondered why it went after the human characters and not bigger game, could it be because they clipped his sail, or do humans look like running middle fingers to the Spino?

I always thought that the spino hunted them down over and over because of the injury which is kind of like a way for the humans saying they they want to battle, hurts the sail with a scratch, but never really finished the whole fight till the end. In their mind the spino would see this as a unfinished territorial battle

Movie had terrible rushed writing and studio interferences. Jurassic Park 3 is always been a love/hate relationship and now in the love part, there was so much I didn't know about the movie. New Dinosaurs introduced like the Ceratosaurs at the theid act by the dung pile. It is very underrated and used for comic relief, it has such a great design. Bring the Ceratosaurs back and the Spinosaurs in future films or such of the latter. The Pterodactyl and pteranodons were very well used and scary in the aviation area. Well introduced too thru the heavy foggy climate. The T.Rex would've torn the Spino's neck right off due to it's powered jaws and power of it's bite. Didn't need a fight at all. The raptor area was well done and scared the hell of me and felt like I was in a very closed off caged area, felt scared and trapped when the raptor chased the gang into the cages. The herbivores after the raptor encounter were underrated as well need more screen time from them and by the boat on the water travels. We need aggressive territorial herbivores making the humans and carnivores flee juat as much as the first T.Rex encounters on Isla Nublar. Didn't need the gang to die off so quickly to raptors or spino. Billy being dragged away in the raging down hill river with the pterodactyls looking back at the crew so menacingly was a nice touch and creepy touch. Could've shown where locations in the thrid movie where the lost world spots and hunts took place. Continuity would've been a saving grace and a better world building directive style. Needed more dinosaur species added for like background easter eggs or to get more of the audience watching to clue in on certain new and old dinosaur species
