Solospelunking Table Talk - Lone Heroes vs. Party Challenges - How To Even The Odds
Ойындар
In this video I talk about the challenges lone heroes face when taking on challenges and encounters designed for a party and I talk about ways to overcome these challenges using rules in different products and give some basic advice how to turn a solo hero into a hero capable of taking on party challenges.

This is a great resource for all of us solo players. Thank you for sharing.
Nice video
Scarlet Heroes is a good one to use with pretty much every OSR rule set out there as well
Dungeon World (Power of the apocalypse system) handles this pretty cool. You do the same damage to all foes. If they attack your PC, the strongest enemy always attacks, and you add for each additional enemy a damage point. Yes, I know, this is a very simplified combat rule, but works pretty well for solo.

Thank you for sharing that! I have not played Dungeon World and that solution seems very simple and effective.

Good point...it also solves the action economy issue because enemies only inflict damage when the PC fails a roll (I think also when there is a partial success). I like Ironsworn for this reason because it means that each roll causes something to happen so you don't have situations solo where you are waiting around for someone to finally hit.

So when your PC attacks he's attacking & (if he hits) damaging each foe in the group?

@@Mind_of_MATT Yes, but you can tweak that if you want, i.e. just dealing 1-2 points of damage to each additional foe, but this increases the difficulty.
I have used solo heroes system a lot for Conan style adventures and it works well. Your content is great! Thank you.

Thanks
Great video! 👍 I have played 5e with just one buffed character, and it was alright, but I prefer running a whole party. But I fully understand why people don’t want to do that 😅

Personally, I prefer playing a single character because I can more easily get into character and roleplay. Even in video gaming. I remember loving the first dragon age origins game, but feeling frustrated for having to control my character's companions as well. Great video solospelunking with concise presentation as always!
I'm familiar with Black Streams/Scarlet Heroes but this is the first I've heard of Legendary Characters. Which would you say is a better match for White Box FMAG? I know it comes down to personal preference in the end. Having a party's worth of HP seems a bit strange to me (Legendary Heroes).

@@Mind_of_MATT For more OSR like systems, which FMAG is in my book, I would use Black Streams. Regarding the party's worth of hp however its just other numbers, same principle. But in my Star Dark game I also use Black Streams for incoming damage. It is a good match.

@@Solospelunking Thanks. Yes, it's a different approach to the same problem, I get that, but I guess I prefer the smaller numbers if I'm gonna do HP.
