Solo Survival part 2: How to Survive Alone in the Wilderness for 1 week --Eastern Woodlands

In this video (part one and two) I go into the wilderness of North Eastern North America with only a knife and live off the land for a week. I document many of the crucial steps and tips and tricks that I do to survive in the forest. Skills shown are shelter, primitive fire, bark containers, water purification, fishing, weaving natural rope, bark shelters, trapping, edible plants, baskets, primitive cooking, fish traps....and tons more.

After a few decades of being obsessed with collecting survival and primitive skills techniques, I am putting out these videos to demonstrate the skills and excursions found at my school, Wild Survival (wildsurvivalskills.com). Videos are focused on primitive skills, rewilding, nature awareness, living off the land, off grid living, indigenous skills, shelter building, primitive fire, water purification, trapping, hunting, bow making, flint knapping, primitive pottery, basketry, edible and medicinal plant preparation and numerous indigenous skills.
I began studying wilderness survival when I was 17 in order to have the ability to spend extensive periods of time in nature, seeking out empowerment and without the need for external sources. I began studying in 1993 under Tom Brown Jr eventually teaching for Tracker Inc. I sought-out every old Native American teacher I could and eventually traveled the world living in very remote indigenous villages in the Amazon, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Peru. My school teaches survival and primitive skills, nature awareness, how to live off the land, re-wilding, prepare for disasters. I strongly believe that experiencing survival living changes the way people approach their entire lives.

I love your videos! I was honestly surprised though about this series that you never mentioned 2 CRITICAL things and how to deal with them. 1. Chiggers. When you pile all of those leaves in your hooch, you are bound to get ticks and chiggers. Those can sicken you with "Rocky Mountain Spottted Feaver" and/or Lime Disease. In the Army I was taught never to pile leaves as insulation without first "smoking" them to get rid of those bugs and others like the brown recluse spider (which have a tissue destroying bite). But maybe you know some better technique and just didn't mention it. 2. Poison ivy, oak, and sumac. These plants can bring you hell by bringing itching and puss weeping boils all over your skin just from touching and handling them. In the Eastern Northwoods like the Appalachian they are EVERYWHERE and I would NEVER go barefooted. Anyway, just thought I would pass this along in case you had not learned about those concerns. We can all learn from each other. Keep up the great work.

Brother your level of outdoor survival knowledge combined with your low key demeanor and clear and concise way of explaining your thought process, what you're doing and why , is pretty friggin awesome! I just stumbled on this and I am thoroughly impressed and truly inspired. I was wondering where you learned all these amazing survival techniques? I'm totally inspired to follow in your footsteps and take some survival training classes and see how well i could hack it in the wild. Thanks for taking the time to make these amazingly entertaining and informative videos! :-)

What's amazing to me is that you didn't start with an implied or specific mission to use or not use gear. It took me a while before I realized that all you have is your large folding knife and a ton of skills and knowledge. I see this casual, relaxed dude walking around barefoot, simple clothing and providing for all his needs. Brilliant.

Being saw many survivalist experts .. I'd have to say this bloke is .. in a word .. 'efficient'. He is very efficient in his practices and in his undertakings out there. He doesn't try major things out there .. he doesn't get elaborate ... but what he does or makes serves it's purpose and works very well. There is no energy or time wasted. It's just enough to serve..without any mess.. or excess .. It serves it's purpose and then he moves on to the next task (and that is the right way to approach these situations). His calm demeanor also helps him cope. Excellent survivalist.

Great series bro. I just learned a bunch of skills I didn't even know I needed. You make it look so easy but we all know that comes from a ton of trial and error and years of knowledge. It pays to know your wild eatables too. I always dream of going out and enjoying nature like this and then I remember how much I like my tarp, sleeping bag/bivy, food and cook kit. LOL. But I always learn a couple things that will help me come back home safe in the event my gear fails. Thanks again for a great video.

Tom has exceptional skills and learning and practicing primitive living skills has definitely got it's place. However, the average person should never enter the wilderness unprepared, and by prepared I mean with shelter, a metal container, at least 3 methods of making fire, a good sturdy fixed blade knife, some way to signal for rescue and some food. The skills Tom is showing here take a lifetime to learn and perfect, and though Tom makes them look very easy, I'm sure he's the first to admit they are not, and in a true survival situation relying on them and failing can be the difference between surviving or not.

Humans will finally gain back their humanity. Dont die or give up. Rage rage on into the night.

I'm only eleven but I learned so much from this video. I have cheap survival equipment but, I use it wisely. I have a axe, knife, flint, steel, sharpening stone, and a hatchet.

If I did this in Australia I'd die within the first hour! Seeing you stick your hands beneath that bark without checking for spiders or snakes sent a chill down my spine

Tom I really enjoyed the videos that you made on survival. I have watched a lot of other survivalist but yours is more down to earth and you explain what you are doing better than most guys. I hope you will make more videos for us to see. I liked and subscribed to your channel as well. Looking forward to more from you. Thanks, Terry.........

This is so cool. These are skills that I thought I would never need to know. If I ever get caught in the wild I’ll think back to this video. Great video, I love it.

Very attractive style of life ! May I suggest you get a lavaliere microphone so that the sound doesn't change everytime you are close or far from the camera. Plus that would be great if you write down some stuff on the editing, like the name of the plantes you ate, or other stuff you used ... Thanks man !! Keep it up :-)

I spent over half my life tracking, running and sneaking around in more different woods around the world chasing others. Now after watching you armed with a folding knife.... I see I still have a lot to learn. Thanks for opening my eyes. I'm a retired grand father now but I may be contacting you for some instruction. thanks. Ohtahay!
