Solo Play Sunday: Azul Solo... Can You Beat 85 Points? (Solo Teach and Full Playthrough)

Ойындар

Thank you so much for joining me for my first-ever Solo Play Sunday for Charity! You might not have known that you can play Azul solo but Ricky Royal at Box of Delights made a great solo mode that I've used many times to challenge myself toward a higher score! (Link is down below.) Can you beat 85 points? My highest score on record is this play at 80 points!

    If you play the box of delight rulles, the dummy tages the set of tilse from the left (top) factory if there are more factories with same size sets. No need to through the die in that situation.

    Thank you for the reminder! I think a die is necessary if there are the same number of tiles on a single factory display but you're right that it's not often necessary to use it! ☺️

    @@BoardGameDave I actually think it t’s more important to play it the same way every time, than to follow a specifik set of rules, when you play solo. Especially if you Care about compare the scoring. However, if you want to compare scores to others it becomes important. I just now realize, that what you do actually makes it more challenging, because you can’t rely on what the dummy does. When using the “Box of Delights” rules, you can think several rounds ahead. Your way prevents that. Playing with others, you can try to guess their strategy, but you don’t know it for sure. The dummy doesn’t have a Wall that you can base a guess on. I think I will try it your way. Henceforth known as the BoardGameDave rules. :o) Thank you.

    @@dortheschlelein5000 Thank you again for commenting, Dorthe! ☺ Let's try to use your less predictable way of playing the AI and then we can compare our scores with each other, at least!

    I love Azul, the only thing getting me from playing solo is that the ai always gets the biggest group. For me thats kinda annoying, since it doesn't feel like a fun solo fun. Im al for planning groups and hoping/knowing my opponents wont/can't take them. But if my group of 4 or 5 in the middle keeps taken, is it still fun?

  • @BoardGameDave

    Hey there! Thanks for the comment! For me, I still find this solo variant enjoyable, even though it is a little harsh that the AI always gets the biggest group! It's worth a try at least! ☺️ (And if you want a more human-like solo variant, I think there's ones on BGG where the AI opponent has its own player board and everything-you could give that a try!)

    12:38, stupid question, why didnt you finish your bottom row with that blue piece instead of filling the top row? (Hi btw, thanks for the solo play)

  • @BoardGameDave

    @BoardGameDave

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not a stupid question at all and it’s SO funny that you asked/caught that! I kid you not, I panicked and thought I had missed an opportunity to get all five of those blue pieces on the board by not doing exactly what you said and went back a turn or two to fix that exact move… and then realized that then I wouldn’t have the blue piece in the top row and it didn’t matter anyway! Plus putting the blue piece at the top gave me three extra points for adjacencies (the black and red tiles I placed below it) so that made more sense! That’s what that cut at 13:21 was for; I had to put all the pieces back the way I had them and continue scoring from there! 😅 Extremely observant, Melski! Thank you so much for watching!

    What do you do if you run out of tiles in the bag? If you do like the manual says, to put the tiles from the box back in the bag. Do you put the tiles you took out for the AI back too?

  • @BoardGameDave

    @BoardGameDave

    9 ай бұрын

    Great question! It looks like the solo variant rules state "The game will end after 5 rounds when the bag is empty". So no extending the game to six rounds and therefore no need to refill the bag, it sounds like! Thanks for the question! ☺️

    Oh my goodness! You have a very keen eye! 500+ views on this playthrough and I don't think anyone else noticed that! I have no idea why I did that; obviously that tile should have gone in the center supply instead. Well, that was one fewer tile that could have potentially ended up on my board! I just went back and looked though the rulebook: there are four pattern line stipulations but none of them say I can’t start a new line with an unfinished line of the same color!
