That's what I'm saying as well, definitely unique an doable, pretty awesome
Have to say…one of the coolest yet easiest set ups. Just goes to show you can repurpose & reuse a lot of things to make a shelter. So many families have these canopies from going to their kids sporting events or racing. What another cool idea & use for them. ♥️
Yeah, the mic sucks. But you'll never know unless you try it out. You've done a big service to those that may be in the market for a mic. One thought on the structure. The sides don't fully reach the ground and allows colder air in. Perhaps using slightly larger tarps and secure their edges to the ground with rocks/soil/stakes? Those heater/stoves are pretty damn nice
Nice build, but the microphone seemed to pick up everything but your voice. The old mike setup was better, in my opinion. But, testing is how we figure these things out! Keep up the good work! Thanks for all you do!
I don't care for your new microphone it drops the sound of your voice randomly but I'm listening on ear buds tho. love your content keep up the hard work I wait all week for your new video to drop
Love that shelter. Cheap , easy, warm. Can’t ask for more. Do what you do.
For me, the other mic better. Delicious looking bread!
Sorry Corp, old mic way better! Good idea with the gazebo thing. I am handicapped (not wheelchair bound) but I think I could use one of those many different ways. Extend 2 legs, lean to! Easy to camo! Etc. especially when a guy cannot use his fingers to tie knots!
Shelters like this one would be useful in hurricane devastated areas. You could organize similar shelters you have done into one video or pamphlet including a list of building materials for each. Demonstrating the creativity will inspire builds to fit their own unique situations. Semper Fi
All the noise was there , except Yours 😄
My husband, a Platoon leader in the Vietnam Central Highlands said that you are LIVIN LARGE out in the wilderness. Especially the food, a lot better than the rations that he packed on his back through the jungle's triple canopy. I truly enjoy your videos but he is always in motion so rarely watches them with me. The man can not sit still. Thank you for all that you share here. I love truly enjoy your videos. God Bless you.
Shawn, one of the best discount bin specials. With a few additional mods, this would be a viable winter setup. Thank you!
I personally like most of the background noise... the sounds of nature, the fire.. the cooking...

Every time I take my Trail Life Troop camping, I always try to show them something new. A new fire lay, a new recipe, some new gear, or new shelter. Most of my inspirations come from this channel. Keep up the great work.
I think this was brilliant! I don't know too many emergency blankets that sport grommets on them, but I'll be looking in your store fronts to see if you sell them! I have used rocks to make grommets tie downs before, but in heavy shifting winds these can loosen up and fail. Your configuration looks like it would hold up in all but heavy winds. Great job! I simply love this because the emergency blankets made up for the weight of the Ozark shelter in hauling it out there. That and the cute little stove was plenty to haul!
New mic isn’t great. I honestly wouldn’t worry about the background noise too much. It’s usually wilderness sounds, which we all enjoy anyway 👍
The mic picked up the background noise better than your talking. I could hear you but compared to the birds and bugs it was almost like you was whispering. Outstanding af idea and video as per usual
Backround nose actually makes for a nice ambient sound that makes the video experience more natural
I’ve seen this technique before on the LA overpasses

The microphone isn't very loud. I liked what you were using before.
DIY idea - A net or something to have a gear loft in the top of that tent!
Old mic was better, I am liking the diy hot tent. Well done as always.
Very outside the box thinking. This is what makes your channel so authentic and unique! God bless you and your family! Keep up the good work! Many blessings and good things ahead!
That has to be the coolest mini hot-tent ever made.
Great idea with the tent. I'm ready for some winter camping.
This was OUT-STANDING AF Corporal! When you started rolling up the front 'door' and stretching it out like an awning I instantly felt like this was one of your coolest DIYs yet. Great job!
Hi Corporals Corner. Great video as always. Mic wasn't very good though. I use to love your final thoughts segment at the end. You should keep doing it and giving good advice.
Like how you decided to turn it around and have an easy door, plus the awning.
Interesting setup. It looks actually quite comfortable. About the mic? I found it a little quiet.
Outstanding AF as always. The Corporal delivers yet again
I liked the crickets and nature sounds in the background while you were talking. This tent was awesome must work good in Winter
Paint it gold and it actually looks like a Taj Mahal! The mic is great at capturing background noises and making your voice sound distant. Excellent for sound effects, bad for talking. I would use it for those ASMR moments only.
Sitting at a softball game and my favorite video series comes up….awesome day. Thanks for making my day complete .
These set-ups just keep getting better. Brilliant 👍
That was pretty cool and innovative. Good job corporal.🎉🎉
Two words. *Fresh mushrooms.* Less weight to carry; taste way better!
For me the sound was too low. I could barely hear you even at top volume. Loved the pizza!
The mic is better then hearing the insects so loudly. Keep it, just boost the volume a bit. Great work, keep it up.

Excellent video and a great idea! The microphone SUCKS BUT it is funny how it picks up all the background sounds very well and clear yet you sound muffled and with a very low audio! IT MAY BE JUST A MIC SETTING THAT IS NOT SET CORRECTLY…WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS …READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!😱👍
When you get up in the morning in each of your video's you remind me of Bill Mauldin's Willie or Joe.
Love the video. On the Rode Wireless GO II mics - I'm a videographer by trade and that's one of the systems I use. This particular unit has its goods and its bads. A couple of quick suggestions. A mic like that needs to be mounted right about over your heart to be effective. You also may need to up your gain on the transmitter unit a few notches as well. If you're looking to eliminate all the background sounds then use the little lavalier mics that came with the units. Those can be clipped on your shirt collar, your outter blouse or jacket, or even hidden in a ball cap if the brim is facing forward. Make sure to use the little foam windscreens if you're outdoors. You'll be surprised at how much wind those will cut out. Also - same rule applies for the lav mics for distance. Ideal placement is somewhere about heart level. Orientation upwards isn't critical. Those are what's known as omni (or omnidirectional) mics - meaning they pick up audio from all directions. When mounted on your shirt or collar, your body blocks any noise coming from behind you. The mics also have what's known as a close pattern - meaning they're designed to pick up only sounds from about 3 or 4 feet from them. Now for the bads. Not sure what you're filming on these days but there is a design flaw in the receiver of the Rode Wireless Go II system. If you're using a Sony or Panasonic camera and mount the receiver in the hot shoe of the camera, you'll get a buzzing sound in the audio. There's a fix for that I'll be happy to share with you as well but I don't want to get too long-winded in this post. I've been following you for a long time and your camera skills have definitely improved a ton...not that I would expect any different from a highly motivate Marine. I'd be honored to talk with you about anything above or any other video related things. Please feel free to DM me or connect me through my KZread channel. Not much to see there...it's really just for fun. Anyway - keep doing what you're doing. I spend my share of time in the woods and always learn something from each of your videos, and would be honored to return some of my knowledge as a thank you for that.
New mic sucks awesome video like the shelter

We have 2-4 gallon water reservoirs that fit on the side of our various size wood stoves. When you’re camped in the woods for several weeks having hot water is nice. Plus it helps hold the heat for awhile on a cold night.
Great idea for a sturdy shelter 👍
I like the background sound
Mic was a little low most of the video other wise awesome AF

Very creative making a hot tent out of a canopy and tarps. The reflective tarps will be good in the winter Would you ever use an inflatable mat to sleep on? Nice food as always! Take care 🇨🇦❤️🍁🍳
Hi Corporal! Re the microphone, the voice was quiet at times but clear. Yes there’s background noise but I don’t feel it hindered… was more immersive imo, the crunch on that pizza sounded excellent AF & the animal sounds made it feel like you’re actually experiencing it with you. Hth x
No on the microphone. Great campsite . Love the canopy
I like how every project you make is square and tight. You really know your way around knots and structure , making it look easy
I've shared your video here, with several people as an introduction to winter camping. It's an inexpensive way to get started. I've only recently discovered the joys of four season camping, so far no snow unlike you have experienced, and I'm looking to drag a few people out with me on a couple of cold weekends.
I stopped watching because couldn't hear good enough, but I made sure to like an comment, support bro
That mic stunk. It seemed like it did the opposite of what you wanted... by accentuating the background noise and drowning your voice. I had to turn the volume way up when you would talk. However, the shelter idea was really cool.

Mic is loud at times and hard to hear at other times
You have a firm grip, with a gentle hand. This is good. ⚔️🇨🇦👍
Really really really into your videos! I have relocated from NZ to Shanghai for a couple of years, and watching your adventures makes up for not being able to do it myself in NZ - but I will be back! impressed by your building / construction skills and I love your creativity! I know some of the haters go on about "he's using the same knots" etc but I personally love that - the practical application of basic skills through repetition is what will make the difference in an emergency situation. I have watched almost all of your videos and many many of them several times. Keep up the good work Shawn and thank you! On the mic topic - I think the Rode Wireless Go is a great choice and will serve you well. Unfortunately...and I have done this myself...I don't think the receiver input into the camera was in properly - the audio we were hearing was from the camera mic. When the 3.5mm input lead is inserted correctly it disables the internal mic, which is why I think the issue was just the input not in properly. I have used the Rode mic for years and I know for sure the audio in the video was not coming from that. Just my thoughts. Cheers mate!!
The voice volume was pretty low throughout the vid but the background volume was pretty high. Awesome vid and unexpected/creative use for a pop up canopy!
Your new microphone, better check the settings, hear your background noise, but not you. Other than that, this set-up was quite entertaining. Great idea in this!
Another great video Corporal. Thanks again. I found the volume on the new mic a bit low. I had to turn my volume up more than normal & when the ad's came on they were alot louder. Hope this helps. Cheers.
Mic is not so good. Video was awesome . I look forward to the “Final thoughts”, I was pleased with the turtle. Nature is really cool!

Since you asked.....that mic sucks a big one, maybe several big ones.....however, another great video, thank you!
Honestly the Mike was ok …, but everything was also amplified. The pizza bread deal looks perfect, and you are just killing it ! Don’t stop ! You are the difference! KTW.
Live in Bradenton FL this gave me the break from hurricane clean up that I needed awesome AF!!! Now I know what I’m gonna do with my pop up canopy!!!!
This was well done, Corporal! I really like the simplicity and functionality of it. Even us old guys can make something like this work. I can hardly wait for you to use this set-up in the Ohio cold. Outstanding!!
only thing i might do different is... to repalce 1 tarp with a welding blaneket for the stove.
🥳CONGRATULATIONS SHAWN🥳 🥳🥳🥳ONE MILLION SUBS🥳🥳🥳 🥳🥳 YEAH!!! 🥳🥳
Mic sucks. Thanks for the videos. Keep doing what your doing!
Just increase the gain on the receiver end of the RODE setup (bottom left button) once your transmitter is selected. If you bought the set with 2 transmitters, you can use one on you, and the other on the camera. And both can record to separate tracks, so you can do editing afterwards. They are a pretty good set, just need to set them up correctly.
Maybe it's my phone. But I have put volume to max for hearing. And I then hear mostly the atmospheric.
Another great video. I don't mind the background sounds. The creatures are part of the video, that's the icing on the cake. All the sounds add to the entertainment. Nice pizza, Oh! Nice to see the Tabasco.
