An afternoon solo fishing the the Finniss River in Australia's Northern Territory (NT). Just over an hour drive from Darwin, this is a beautiful spot. I didn't catch any Barramuni today but I did manage to get my first ever Sooty Grunter. In fact, I got 2 Sootys in 10 minutes!
Stick around for the drone footage at the end of the video.
About Mikey Cunningham and my NT Fishing Adventures
---
See that big bloke in front of the camera? Yea, that's me. G’day folks, I’m Mikey Cunningham. I’m not only the bloke in front of the camera, I do all the work behind the camera too. I mostly make fishing videos.
I live in Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory. Also known as the "Top End." A lot of my older videos are from the Gulf of Carpentaria, when I lived in a little fishing village called King Ash Bay Fishing Club. It's located on the banks of the McArthur River downstream from Borroloola in the Northern Territory. I still go back there a few times a year and make fishing videos of my fishing trips.
I enjoy filming and editing my fishing adventures. Thank you to everyone who leaves me a comment and shares my stuff. You guys are awesome.

They are called Sooty Grunter mate. Or “Sootys” for short. They are a 100% fresh water fish. And yes they do look like your Mangrove Snapper. Your Mangrove Snapper we call Mangrove Jack here. Which gets more confusing because they aren’t anything like the fish you call Jacks. The ones you call Jacks, we call Trevally. Haha. I’m seriously not making this stuff up. Thanks heaps for watching mate. 🤠👍🏼

John Dwyer Short answer: Wet. 🌧 Longer answer. The monsoon has finally dropped down and we getting some really good follow-up rain to the rain we had a couple of weeks ago with that tropical low that passed over Darwin. Massive storms all night the last couple of nights. And man I love storms. But I have 2 babies and 2 dogs who all don’t like storms.

I have not seen you ever fish the Adelaide River in Darwin out past Humpty Doo. Is it no good for fishing? Went there well up past Goat Island and got some pretty decent Barra in the Run Off around 2016

This was a few days after the big rains we had the other week. That tropical tow that went over Darwin. The water level was up, but still had a long way to go for the ramp to be inaccessible. I’ve only been there twice so I’m no expert.

I had a similar moment that scared the s@&t out of me. I was flicking off the font of the boat and I had that “you’ve being watched” feeling. The water was dirty. Look over my shoulder and all I could see was this things head over a meter long right next to the boat. The water was only a metre deep so the bastard could have practically climbed into the boat if it wanted to. I literally sat down on the floor right in the middle of the boat (as far from the sides as I could be) and powered out of the creek with my Minn Kota on 10. I do have footage of the incident but it never made the video because you don’t see the croc. Just me acting like a scared little bitch. Haha. It was the video called “Solo Leaders Creek Fishing” and it was about 5 minutes after I release the small Barra I caught near the end of the video. This is obviously all irrelevant info, because as I said, I cut it out of the video. Crikey, possibly longest comment ever? Haha. 🤠👍🏼
