I loved that, also a cracking view of Pen Y Ghent which was my first ever summit back in 2007. I'm putting together a bikepacking set up, planning a trip and wild camp so this was really inspiring. Thanks, I've subscribed 👍

Thanks, Derek and appreciate you checking out the channel! Yes the Dales is a stunning part of the country and Ribblehead is probably my favourite spot. When they run the old steam trains over the viaduct you get loads of amateur photographers out there all trying to capture that 'iconic shot'. Happy cycling!

Beautiful weather with amazing views of The Three. I cycled to the dales on Saturday (Halton Gill to Stainforth road) and the breeze was quite lively but it was wonderful. Well done on avoiding your late-late approach to Scottish campsites. That's a fab site for wild camping. Day two looked fun - I recognised sections on the shoulder of Dodd Fell and around Cam - and it all made for a brilliant dales showreel.

Thanks. I keep passing that Halton turn off when heading up to Horton - definitely on the to-do list and I think I've seen on a couple of your rides. I think that's the earliest I've ever stopped and set up camp but it made for a far more relaxed evening than usual - which I could really get used to! I'm looking forward to nipping out on the road bike later this eve - always a great feeling of lightness and speed after lumbering around on a fully loaded mtb!

@@onemorecyclist The road bike will feel like a motorbike after the camping trip. I've just got in from 60 miles over Buckstones and the Skye Road - very deceptive NE wind, but otherwise it's wonderful & it's all set for you.

What an amazing weekend it was for cycling around the Dales! My mate and I chatted to you on the climb out of Hawes on Sunday morning - that was a tough climb on fully loaded bikes. Cheers for sharing. Glad you enjoyed your ride. Happy peddling!

Ah, hello again! It really was a perfect weekend to be out on bikes, wasn't it? Hope you made it across to Malham/Gordale and got a camp spot okay. Yes that climb out of Hawes was a beast - I was pushing in a couple of places and even that wasn't particularly easy. Amazing up on the tops though! Happy cycling!

@@onemorecyclist Yes there was a fair bit of pushing for us too! like you say it was worth it for the views from the top. We ended up camping in Kettlewell as we didn't want to risk not getting onto the Gordale site. Then an easy day yesterday back to Skipton. I've subbed to your channel and will catch up on some of your previous videos.

A great over nighter route. Fab camp spot. Great weather if a bit windy. Was the return from Hawes to Horton over Dodd Fell along the Pennine Way by any chance? Still haven't visited yet. Off road appeals to me a little more than on road. Where could I find all off road routes tracks, paths in the Dales? I would love to do just this, bike packing around this beautiful area for a few days. I have exactly the same set up as you. I live in flat East Anglia so the Dales is a totally different landscape from what I am used to. In the Fens the wind is your hill. I love hills, but not the wind and both together wind in your face struglling up a steep climb or indeed down, is just misery ...... Many thanks for making another video.

Thanks, Alex for such a nice comment. I was definitely on the Pennine Bridleway in parts and I think some sections are shared with the Pennine Way judging by the signs - so much better maintained that when I did it back in 1986! I'm slightly preferring road to off-road but whatever gets you out into the peaceful countryside gets my vote. I know what you mean about wind being like a hill - was based in flattest Cheshire for a few years and the winds round there were positively Patagonian at times. Happy cycling!

Hi. Thanks so much for the nice feedback. I've had it a good few years and can't remember the make, apologies. Just a budget one though with a variety of spacers and adjustability for fitting options. It's actually just broken on me (in the last 10 miles of a 200 mile off road trip) but I can't really complain after all the years of use/abuse. If i find the old purchase info and make I'll drop another note here. Happy cycling!

Have you considered taking a power block for phone & GPS charging? There would be plenty of power in (say) a 25mAh battery pack to keep you charged for a couple of days.

Thanks for the comment. I usually take at least one power bank when I'm 'touring' (I use 10,000 mAh Ankers) but thought I might get away without on this short trip. I think because my Wahoo unit is getting old it's not quite so good at holding it's charge now. Still get a day and a half out of it though so it will do me for now. Happy cycling!

Not long complete a 124 mile tour of Kent, Canterbury, Dover and Felixstowe. Amazing ride but far too hilly. I need another bikepacking adventure

I'd like to da a 'more distance less hills' tour or Bikepacking trip at some point, although I'm quite fond of those high point views. Kudos on that southern tour (was it a named/established route or just one you put together?) and enjoy the next one! Happy cycling!

@@onemorecyclist I edited a north downs way komoot route only selecting cycle routes. But I found that komoot doesn't recognise private property. Must have been at least 5 or 6 times it sent me through private property. And at 1 point it sent me into the back of a gated property. And even through a small army training exercise. I also managed to change from 1st gear into 0 gear causing my derailleur hanger and cage to bend. Broke a spoke and buckled the back wheel ( costing me 5 hour delay and £50 to fix ) But with all that I'd do it all again in a heart beat, such a great experience. Even with all the hills I still managed 57 miles day 1, 44 miles day 2 and a nice easy 23 miles last day. I need another ride before this summer is gone.

Looks great - but by heck you're lugging a lot of kit for two days...

Thanks, I think :). The huge panniers are a bit deceptive as they were half empty for this one. Making do with the (mostly touring bike) kit I have. Maybe I'll try a fast and light setup at some point. Happy cycling!

Is the ride possible with a gravel bike without suspension to where you camped? How far off the road from the viaduct would you say it was, fancy doing that as live only 50 miles away, so would be a nice ride up and back home the day after, a good watch, new subscriber here, saw your Hadrian’s wall ride first. I’ve done wild camping, but want to get into bike packing too. Cheers

Hi Andy. Thanks so much for following along! It's been a good few months since I did the ride but I don't recall anything technical or that tested the MTB suspension too much, so I'd say a gravel bike would be fine (and in fact much better on the road sections). I probably camped 7 or 8 miles from Ribblehead. One thing I do remember thinking at the time was if it had been wetter, whether than particular spot would have been too boggy to camp. There would have been other options though I think. Somebody asked about the route previously so I set it to public on my Komoot page - it's called 'Gravel ride from Ribblehead' and might be of interest. If you do it on the gravel bike, let me know what you think! Cheers!
