Great tutorial, thanks for sharing. I have a question, how can I have a small logo without an array of the same image?. Regards,

I'd guess that you could just make the surface finish image with your logo in the middle and a ton of empty space around it. That way image reaches the end of the part before the image and logo repeat.

Is the surface finish only an appearance or you can export it's geometry in the model for production?

Yes the surface finish is only an appearance. Unfortunately, you can not generate actual geometry with this method. That would be awesome though if you could apply a texture to a face that actually applies a change in geometry.

Same question as other people here. Can you use those bump images for production? who can we export something like that for cad/cam?

Hi Danny, The surface finish shows only on the model as a visual effect. It is not something that would be exported as part of the model in a way that would be recognized by a CAM software for the purposes of machining that pattern on the surface.

Since it can render the images as if actual geometry it would be great if we could use images to create actual geometry! That would make creating real physical textures so much easier and allow for tons of new possibilities!

I totally agree. It would be real awesome if we could get that in the software even for just really easy common patterns. Maybe submit an Enhancement Request?

What version of Solidworks are you using? I have 2014 and I have all those commands, but the image does not change....

Hi trackie1957, This video was produced in SolidWorks 2014. If you apply these appearances to your model and do not see the appearance change then you likely do not have "RealView Graphics" enabled on your machine (found under 'View', 'Displace', 'RealView'). This setting must be enabled in order to see these types of appearances and the setting is only allowed to function on supported graphics hardware (typically NVidia Quadro or AMD FireGL/FirePro/Radeon Pro graphics cards).

@@goengineer Just wanted to say thanks, 2 years later I've been trying to figure out why the heck surface finishes don't appear. Didn't realize it was because of that.
