Solid Metal 3D Printing Under $100k - Markforged Metal X | CES 2017

Ғылым және технология

Our first release from this year's CES event!
We were really excited to talk about the printers that came from Markforged this past year.
Their newest printer, the Metal X, has metal powder in its filament. It also features a laser that can check critical dimensions to save material and help with calibration.

It is nice to see us doing this with better materials once left as secret to us in Aerospace. We have been doing & using this since 1987 @ McDonnell Douglas & United Technologies owners of Pratt & Whitney. We called it Multi-Layered Manufacturing (MLM) before it was called stereolithography.

Lol @ how confusingly similar your logo and Markforged's are. Who gets the C&D letter?

$100k for the metal printer? Desktop Metal sells their entire system which includes the Printer, Debinder, and furnace for $120k, and it is the exact same technology, plus they sell 30 different metals and plan on expanding to hundreds.

and CNC machines are even cheaper.... and arguably better. Just bigger and require more power (usually). But if you're casting or machining metal, size shouldn't be a factor; especially if you're funding that much money

Totally agree! As soon as these metal 3D printers become available at a price point that's comparable to a mid-level CNC mill, we will see more companies adopting them into their manufacturing options list.

There are already cheaper and faster machines than these ones. Since this one has motors for X and Y axis. We, same as other machines use galvanic scanner heads which are way faster. If you are interested look at this one dentas.eu/en/products/cad-cam-technology/arrow-metal-printing It is 92.000$ and prints faster and has 35 micro meters spot diameter. There is also another machine which is also cheaper. Or-laser creator.

    And yours will only do 90mm X 90mm X 70mm. The Metal X will do 250mm X 220mm X 200MM and only cost $7000 more.
