I got that same kit from Amazon but have not had to use it- Glad I did not pay much for it.Thank you for the great video!

Let me know how they work out, please.
Smaller ones are really handy and melt much much faster. Worth it on the car install I did.

Yes, that is what I am hearing.
The trick I've found is to put shrink tube over the connector, that way if it burns through the plastic the shrink tube will protect it. I love them. I'm not much of a solder guy, but these solved the soldering problem for me.

That's a good tip. Thanks
I haven't used these before Bob but I may get a small pack and see what my results may be. Thanks for the review brother.

Yup try it out and let me know how you make out. Butane lighter should work better.

Will do, appreciate you sir.
We only use these now. We use a more powerful heat gun with a digital readout that CAN go up to 1100 degrees Fahrenheit. Usually we set it at 750 and it does it in 10 seconds. Also you can slide a bit of cheap shrink tubing down the wire and then slide it back up to double up the shrink tubing. We love this stuff and it's all we use now. Cumberland Power Equipment.

Okay I will try out again and see if I can figure out how to use them. Thanks
Good video Bob i know Jake commented in one of his videos on wiring repairs that he had seen a lot of negative comments on this type of electrical connector. Glad someone finally posted a video on some of the issues we have better things to do when repairing equipment than waiting for the solder to melt. 6 minutes per connector equals a lot of money at any shops hourly rate eh?

@@doublewide6 We give estimated quotes only since you never know what else is wrong until you see it and issue invoices with basic hourly rated repairs with addons of minutes here and there for the extras that were needed. A basic 1.5 hour full service labour charge can easily end up near or at 2 hours.
would have been neat to see a thinner wire like 18 gauge typical for auto stereo install, thank you for the honest review, I tried these a while back and found the same result

Yes, I will play around with these and see if I can figure out how to better use them.
Thanks, Bob!

No Problem, may have saved someone some aggrevation.
💥 After all this effort, someone could’ve just plugged in a soldering iron, and had it done the right way already
Bought these and had the same issue with the heat gun, hard to get the solder to melt and took too long. I’m back to standard solder and marine shrink wrap with the hot glue inside.
Eric O uses a Butane Mini Torch to melt the solder. Works for him. Maybe, the type of heat source is the problem.

Yep, that's what I use, and never had issues.

Okay I will try them again and see what I find. Thanks
If it takes that long, then I’ll stick to soldering! Thanks for the demo!
I would work with these a little more. I love them. A inexpensive heat gun with a deflector will really speed it up. Even if you have to use an extra piece of shrink tubing over the connection it is faster and easier than a solder gun. That size wire takes a lot more heat than the red ones which is most of what I use on small engine repairs.
@lloydmiller5275

I completely agree. A deflector helps to direct heat quickly and stop burning through the layer

Seems like a waste of time. Soldering is not that difficult or time consuming. You'd be better off just sticking with traditional methods.
Awesome brother…going to hold off buying these. Takes too long

Yeah, I thought so too.
I first was using the flame / torch method and thought the connectors were complete garbage and didn't recommend them. Then some time later I tried the heat gun and now I love them, I have one of the heat guns you have and that's what we used at work just to dry paint samples. I don't think they get hot enough. Could you try to use a heat gun that has a higher setting? I have both 2 speed Wagner and a harbor freight heat guns that melt it within 20 seconds and I love these types of connectors now. I haven't used this brand, but most of these are identical. I have used qibaok, hotop, xuuap with great success. Try a hotter gun and see if the results change.

I have a different brand of a similar product and they have worked well for me.

@@doublewide6 TICONN
Soldering wire and using the shrink tubing is actually pretty easy .
I got the TICONN brand from Amazon and the red ones melted a lot faster than your blue demo. Not sure if it’s blue vs red or manufacturer, so maybe worth another try? I liked the results I got.

I am going to revisit it.
These have been out for some time now... I have had good luck with them over the past couple of years... Use a better source of heat, mini torch or fireplace lighter...
@doublewide6

Okay thanks will do.
Heat gun looks ancient and blow torch would never work under dash of car with hundreds of other wires present. With the proper heat gun I would bet they perform differently
Try hitting the ends of the wires with the torch first. Hear them up, push the wires in. Then melt it
@doublewide6

Ok good tip.
If it aint gonna work correctly I'd rather just pinch the Wire connectors and be done with it Thank you for the video

I have another brand that works great. I use a small cigarette torch and it melts quickly.

What brand?
That's a shame, I already ordered a bunch (a lot) of them because I got them free. And I was remembering the same product from years ago by a different company, I don't know which my boss at the time bought them, and they worked really well, I used hundreds of them. Was hoping these were the same ones. Guess I'll give a few a try before I rely on them.
It is tough not to melt through the plastic shrink, it also depends on the brand name, to more money you spend the better they work. I use a click jet lighter, and that seems to work the best, not to hot, and to low temp either, get yourself a click jet lighter, and try it again.... Great video.

I am hearing mixed reviews on these. The biggest issue is they are time consuming.
IF I needed A solder joint, solder first then heat shrink tubing over it. if ya had time to practice, maybe it could be worth the money.

I will practice and revisit them.
1:35...I can easily hand solder and put shrink a heat shrink in less than a minute....

Yes, I was probably doing something wrong, but there were no directions either.
You need to concentrate heat more where needed. Your not welding cast iron. May not be a good product but some are and that isn't how I ever heated them. Smaller tip for hot air or smaller touch for flame.

I don't like these either and I used a torch at 5mm instead of 5 inches

Torch?
You have to apply telepathic osmosis while heating. Solder will then melt almost instantly. 😉
Thank you for this honest demo. You saved me $40.... All the chat below about 'deflectors' makes the operation more complex and costly. The way you did it was normal for any mechanic, simple and quick. It was a fair test and the product failed. Good job!
I like soldering, or just use the crimp connectors that have heat shrink tubing already on them. These aren't practical.
