Solder Station: How To build a homemade Solder Station cheap

How To build a homemade Solder Station cheap, I created this video because my old solder gave me a hard time for get it work , because it get very hot so too aggressive with small dots and the tip dirty, so this is an easy way to build a station soldering economically, and make our solder iron works Good.

Hola Roco - I like your design and thank you for sharing it with us. I have not made such a station yet, but what I did make for my soldering iron was an outlet controlled by an electronic timing device. I once forgot to switch the iron off when distracted, and although no other damage than a burnt out element resulted, it did teach me a lesson.I also include Residual Current Device protection (GFCI) because in the UK our irons that operate at mains voltage are required to be earth-grounded, and a three core flexible is a must. Saludos.

Guys this is an awesome thing yes. But use your creativity to customize it to your liking and with the features you want. I'm sure you can add voltage meters and other useful things, like some storage for your solder and small components. I'd love to watch the videos you guys would make.

This is great project but there is no connection to ground in this circuit. that receptacle might let you get into trouble plugging in a device needing grounding. Be careful!

While this does produce an adjustable iron, it doesn't give you the single defining advantage of a real soldering station: thermal feedback. A real station has a temperature sensor in the tip so that it can detect the temperature drop when you touch a joint, and then feed in more power to maintain tip temperature. This makes a HUGE difference in the ease of soldering. Also, because this design uses a 2 prong cord but 3 prong outlets, it's possible to plug in a grounded device and expose line current to exposed metal parts. :(

nowaday you can buy get hakko 936 handle cheaply and build the temperature control to drive it or just buy diy kit and build it yourself using old laptop charger or there is one popular re-purpose of apple laptop charger to power it, slightly more money there is hakko T12 with A616 controller that come as kit with the tip you can build yourself, one thing I dont like with this direct AC soldering station is that this thing can pass current you get shock just holding the soldering wire while touching it and that also can damage delicate component with thin tolerance, those hakko uses 24VDC and heated by ceramic material so there is no current passing through the tip, if you like modding you can just buy the inner circuit of the T12 or 936 and modify your handle to use either Hakko T12 or 936 element thats much cheaper

so this is somehow cheaper not including the tools to make it than a wlc100? a much higher quality iron in itself than what you are using. i suppose if you are in a pinch and you have an iron that works and you can power and no station this is an option. otherwise spend the money elsewhere: www.amazon.com/Weller-WLC100-40-Watt-Soldering-Station/dp/B000AS28UC/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1455708747&sr=1-1&keywords=wlc100

Not a good idea to install open wire connections in a wooden box. Get a metal box and cover instead and properly ground them. Be safe, not sorry.
