Which amp has the best high gain tone?
In this video I compare the Overdrive channel of the Soldano SLO-100 to the Lead channel of the Omega Obsidian. This comparison does not go through any clean or crunch tones, HIGH GAIN ONLY!
Signal chain:
- @smpguitars8608 Orpheus loaded with @BKPickups Ragnaroks
- Soldano SLO-100 / Omega Obsidian
- Omega 412 loaded with VM12-65 speakers
- Microphones: Shure SM57 & Neumann TLM102
No pedals, no post processing. Guitar is plug straight into the front of each amp and nothing in between and nothing in the effects loops.

Great job man. They're definitely in a similar vein for tone, but the Omega is definitely more modern sounding and less chalky in the mids compared to the Soldano. Both sound great and you can't have the new stuff without the OG!

So true. I hear people shit on the SLO sometimes and I don’t get it. It has such an important place in history, plus it’s still 100% relevant even with modern tones.

@@ScottBynoe it's funny that people will complain about the SLO and play a Dual Rec or a 5150 and praise them, even though they're all in the ball park of eachother. The rectifier preamp circuit is literally a rip right from the SLO.

Of course, these KZread channels exist for clicks, and need content that keeps them flowing, making the constructed feedback loop necessary for them. It's always good to hear opinions like yours that aren't overly brash, and down to earth. The guitar community needs more of that.
