Sold For Scrap?! 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This van rolled in yesturday after it was taken in on trade at a local car lot. The Car saleman said the car had too many miles to be sold on their lot and they didnt want anything else to do with it. So yes the obvious , its not perfect, it has over 300k miles and its got a few battle scars. HOWEVER, this van runs, drives, has a clean title and is in excellent mechanical condition. This was would make someone a great vehicle. its sad to see stuff like this end up here. And for most of these vehicles its the end of the road. Why do we do it? Is it really worth that couple hundred bucks? For that money you could sell it to a family who really needs it. I didnt make the price on this one. But it is very nice considering the mileage so they marked it up a little. Odds are someone will come along and haggle us down to 7-800 and it will sale. But I wanted to get some footage before it was gone. I hope you guys enjoy seeing cars that come in here, and if so drop a comment down below and let us know! We thank you all for watching, and will catch you all in the next one!

YAAY!!! (I hate waste) This is coming from a dumpster diver, and ancient mobile afficionado. Yeah, I know that your scrapped cars are actually "middle-aged", and in their "vulnerable vehicle" years, and therefore not truly ancient enough to be called "classic" yet. By that, I mean they are too old to be worth repairing, yet too new to be worth restoring. But the upshot is, it also means that you can still easily get parts for them, and that they have not been rusting away while sitting outside for many years. Nor are they likely to be "Rodent Hotels" since they have been driven up until recently. And you can start these "middle-aged movers" right up, without having to give the motor a RADICAL tune-up, without having to flush out the old gas, replace the gas lines and the gas tank, etc..

My grandparents had a 96 Caravan that went to almost everywhere in the US and part of Canada. It had almost had 300k on the clock and was still running and driving like new (after a new trans was installed). Then traded that in for a 2000 Caravan that traveled a lot as well and had almost 200k on it before it was sold. Take care of your cars and they'll last a long time.

People exaggerate too much about mileage. As long as the vehicle is taken care of than miles don't mean jack shit. This vehicle was well taken care of, and the asking price is fair. It's not rusted away or beat to hell. People here claiming that's a $300 car get the fuck outta here, you know nothing about what vehicles are worth. A poor maintained 50k mileage car will have more problems than a well maintained high mileage car. Just amazes me how stupid people are today. Glad this van was saved.

For $1000 or so - no problem as with the over the top prices for new today - this is cheap. Just bought a 2002 T&C LXI - very much like this today with 182,000 miles on it in pristine condition for $2700 cash and cash is the key! Had a 2001 years ago that a girlfriend/fiance' "conned" me into trading off as she could not stand it that I owned one in pristine condition then and it was paid for. Made up my mind if the opportunity came up to buy another one similar to what I had I would and so I did! The bigger problem today is so many folks are not happy (sarcastic) unless they have the newest and the best with the most options and if that means financing it for 6-8-10 years or leasing it and having nothing to show for it @ the end of the lease - do not care as long as they think everyone around them is "impressed"!!! The term is called "the herd theory"... Pay little to no attention to the debt, interest being paid, payments and/or the fact most SUVs/trucks are marked up enough where the manufacturer could take $8,000+ off and still make a "normal" profit as well as when it is out of warranty and any of the new electronic crap dies they will need a second loan to pay for the repairs..... I hope someone bought this and got some more use out of it as that looks pretty decent and these vans ride and handle unbelievably well. In snow and ice with good tires on them - practically and SUV because of the design that puts all the weight on the Front. f AWD version - better. The one I bought today is a spring, summer, and fall driver but not winter considering the condition it is in.... :-)

Previous owner took spectacular care of that car! I have seen those with 1/4th the miles and in worst shape. I concur with your "old man" that it has had a replacement trans put in it at some point. Too bad no one picked this car up because it still looks nice. In Michigan that would of sold really quick at a grand. Did you list it on craigslist? I'm sure its more profitable for you to sell them than scrap them with where scrap metal prices are at currently.

It looks like that engine has been apart quite recently as it's all so clean under there so I reckon it's had a big engine overhaul not long ago. Being as it's almost certainly had a new transmission at least once (these transmissions don't seem to be the strongest around by any means) it's likely to be pretty much as new mechanically too. If I was your dad I'd jump on that one, fix the small faults which should be a walk in the park for him and drive it until it turns it's toes up, it'll be cheaper than walking...

Judging by the additional CD slot at the bottom of the centre console it looks like it's got factory sat nav too, for what that's worth... Sorry, no, it's the factory DVD entertainment system. Just as well really, the factory sat nav on these really wasn't very good, in the UK and Europe at least...

I would have driven it until it died or had some life threatening issue that was too costly. My '99 has rusted tower suspension, rust all around, but only 160,000 miles and the engine runs like a dream. I'm scrapping it. Anyway, miles will not kill you. A bad mechanic could though, in retrospect, such as if you bypass annual inspections by a reputable mechanic.

I know I am going to get hate for this, but these seem to be the luck of the draw. Some seem to go forever, and some are nothing but trouble. I have a neighbor who just traded his off and it surprised the heck out of me as it was trouble free - just downsized to a compact vehicle. On the other hand we had a 2002 that was a total nightmare. You'd fix one thing, and guaranteed something else would fail. Mostly electrical issues. I mean - not making this up, had it in for stabilizer links (normal wear) and as the shop was backing it out - the brake lights suddenly blew a fuse and the intermittent short could never be found (had to run new wires to the rear).... finally sold it cheap as a problem child. Had just over 100K a year ago when I sold it.

I think every car company has lemons and loves. I mean there are still people out there daily driving chevettes. And then youve got a guy with a 2 year old F150 having to replace the timing chains. So its not crazy to think some may be built better then others. Except toyotas..... those run forever haha

Exactly! With the Grand Caravan, I knew it would start... oh, wait... it didn't when the SKIM system thought I was stealing my own vehicle and locked me out. Had to replace the ECM to fix that (cheapest option - got a refurb). When I was replacing the turn signal stalk assembly (yup, it went bad) I noticed it was made by Lucas. Lucas, lord of Darkness. Yup - explained a lot! (LOL)

From the condition of the interior I don't think that's been a family vehicle, there's not enough kid damage in the back. I'd guess it's racked up it's miles as an executive transport vehicle, which is good news as it will have been maintained within an inch of it's life to reduce downtime as any time off the road outside routing maintenance costs the owners a lot of money and possibly further loss of revenue due to losing customers who got stuck on the side of the highway with a broken down vehicle. A wheel sensor and a central locking solenoid in the passenger sliding door and that thing would be pretty much as good as new. Dealers often won't touch anything old or with a lot of miles on it as a lot of customers, when they buy a car from a dealer even for very little money, expect to get a six month old Rolls Royce so they'll bring it back and complain like nobodies business at even the smallest thing and nobody needs that hassle. In fact it's often the case that the older and cheaper the car is the more likely the customer is to complain...
