Solar Breeze: The Robotic Solar-Powered Pool Cleaner Review

Here is a review of the Solar Breeze Solar Powered Robotic Pool Cleaner. It is a surface skimming cleaner powered by two solar panels on the top. No hoses or a cord as it generates its own power each day to operate. It is a unique automatic pool cleaner to say the least.
To order one go to my website:

Solar Breeze Setup, Tips & Troubleshooting: • Solar Breeze Setup, Ti...
Does it work is the question. The answer is yes. It does exactly what it is designed to do. It will operate on the pool surface from early morning into the night with the pool running or not and continuously skim debris, pollen, dust and leaves off the top. It also is "intelligent" so it won't get stuck in corners and can easily navigate the toughest shaped pools.
As you can see from the video it will spin or reverse out of corners and pick up surface debris with no problems. I also put it through an extreme debris test which it passed with flying colors. I was impressed by how well it skimmed the surface. The fact that it runs for such a long time means that your pool surface will look clean all week long.
It also acts as a chemical dispenser and will hold two 3" Trichlor tablets in a tray. This will allow for even chlorination of the pool surface. This is a great added feature so while the Solar Breeze is running chlorine is being dispensed into the pool.
The unit itself is super lightweight so you will have no problems taking it out when you want to use he pool. The unit must be removed before swimming as it can be damaged if you leave it in the pool while swimming. Solar Breeze also offers a 30 day return policy and a one year warranty but you can void the warranty if you damage the unit by improper use (i.e. swimming with it in the pool).
It has a large debris tray that will hold about twice the amount of debris as your skimmer basket. It also locks into the cleaner very well so it won't come out while the Solar Breeze is operating. There is a fine mesh screen in the debris tray that will trap dirt and small particles also.
According to the manufacturer the Solar Breeze will work fine in a pool with a Spillway or Waterfall feature:
"In most cases the spillways and water falls create a current that pushes the Solar-Breeze away from the falls. Even if it does get caught in the falls, it will tend eventually reverse and back away. We have many customers with falls or spillways."
So while the Sun is hitting the Solar Breeze it will continue to charge the battery. When the Sun goes down it will run off the battery until the charge is extinguished. The next morning when the Sun comes out, the unit will start to run again and charge the battery.
If it gets extremely hot out the battery charging will stop. Here is what the manufacturer says about high operating temperatures:
"The battery has a thermister in it to monitor internal battery temperature. If the internal temperature gets too high, the software that controls charging will stop charging the battery so that it doesn't overheat. The battery operating range is up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. We have many units operating in Arizona, and our charge management system works fine and does not overheat or damage batteries."
I asked the manufacturer if you can operate the Solar Breeze with suction side or pressure side automatic cleaner in the pool:
"We recommend that bottom cleaning devices are removed from the pool when the Solar-Breeze is running, however, it the customer insists on leaving it in their pool, they can acquire some hose weights to place on the hose that will hold it just below the water surface so the Solar-Breeze can pass over top. Most customers find that, with a Solar-Breeze in the pool, the only material that sinks to the bottom is heavier dirt and dust particles that do not float for a long time. In many cases they can get by with only running their bottom cleaner once every week or 10 days."
The Solar Breeze is a great automatic pool cleaner and one that is truly environmentally friendly. It is a very well engineering cleaner and as you can see from the video works great in the pool.

My jaw dropped when you tossed the debris back into the pool. I would never attempt that in my personal pool. It did a good job of getting most of it, but realistically, some debris will sink to the bottom in a short while while it is waiting to get sucked up. Now we just need a solar powered floor cleaner.

Dave, I had been struggling since 1996 with pine needles (I'm surrounded by them) in my pool and had tried so many types of surface cleaning systems. I decided to spend the money and by this unit and I couldn't be more happy with it. You can see it in action here. Steve Backyard What I really like is the micro filter that cleans the surface scum like lotions and oils and leaves the water sparkling clean. Thank you so much for making these videos and sharing your expertise.

I bought a house with a pool this May and I wanted to let you know how thankful I am for your movies. They have helped me understand how to maintain my pool. A couple of questions about the Solar Breeze. Can you cut down on your pump / filter time if you have a Solar Breeze? And I read a review on Amazon about the product and the customer was complaining about having to reset the processor in the Solar Breeze. He said it was in the instructions. Can you comment on the processor reset?

Yes. I think it is a great idea. I have it in another pool as a demo. You probably will want to add some hose weights so the hose is below the surface all the time - shouldn't effect the G2. It has a one year warranty and from watching this thing it doesn't look like the parts wear out much. It is pretty simple and light weight. Your paying for R & D basically as it is innovative. It is pretty cool. Maybe run the G2 from 1am-6am. You can try it for 30 days... not sure about return shipping.

This is an amazing cleaner. It leaves the pool surface sparkling like glass, no joke. I also posted a review on my relaunched Blog and it is currently number 5 on my list of Top 10 Pool Cleaners of 2013. I recommend this cleaner if you don't like having cords and hoses in your pool all day long. It also keeps a lot of debris and dirt from dropping to the pool bottom while it is running from early morning until after the Sun goes down. A great choice.

That is the only review I have read where they had that problem. Before I try a product I like to read all the reviews online. Frontgate also has about 14 reviews posted. I actually have a demo model that I am putting in multiple pools. It just finished a week at an account with a Japanese Maple over it. The pool was spotless & the customer will buy a Solar Breeze. There is a 30 day trial period & a 1 yr warranty. What does your pool look like and what type of debris do you get?

  • @SPL

Yeah, I like to test a product thoroughly before I sell it to my customers or recommend it here on my KZread Channel. The idea just popped into my head at the moment ;). I am actually using a demo unit on my route. It is now in it's fourth pool. Amazingly not much really gets past it and falls to the bottom. I am actively selling this cleaner as I think it works very well. I have a handful of customers who don't like cleaners in their pools due to the hoses. They just lowered the price to $498

As far as running your pool less, most people run their pools too long to begin with. If you tell me the size of your pump, filter and how many gallons are in your pool I can let you know approx. what the minimum run time for you will be. On the pump you will see for example HP 1, HP 1.5 or sometimes PH 1. The filter should have a lable with the filter name and the size is usually listed with a label where a dot has been punched. I have a video on calculating the pool size on my Channel also.

I have this original unit in my pool - had to send it in once to get parts upgraded but working well still. As with anything parts will wear out. As far as the internals there is not much too it. I've taken one apart nd it is pretty simple really. Expect to need to send it in every couple of years for new parts. It cost me $130 to send it in for repair including shipping. Reasonable.
