The three candidates fans put as the avatar if the war never happened are Katara, Yue and Sokka.

He’s already a backbender, him being the Avatar would be OP!

Thought that theory went to Yue. Its why she was still born becasue her avatar spirit was missing.

It doesn’t mean the next avatar would be from the southern water tribe just a water tribe

Without the 100yr war, most of the characters’ ancestors would have probably led different lives and had different kids, meaning all mcs from atla only exist in the timeline of the show because of the war

This theory falls apart so quickly it almost hurts....

I don’t think anyone is “supposed” to be the avatar. It’s only decided the moment the current avatar dies. If it was fate for sokka to be the avatar than aang would not have gotten frozen

Sokka is seriously underpowered

Yue would have been the next avatar she was literally born without a spirit because the avatar spirit was still in aang. Thats why she needed a spirit to give her life to live.

I actually disagree with any of the characters from the original show being the "next Avatar". Aang died relatively young compared to other benders, people and some of the Avatars we know about. Kyoshi lived to be over 200, and Roku died of smoke inhalation. Aang may have looked young and did live a decently long life as it was, but being frozen and effectively in the Avatar state must have taken its toll on him. So if he had lived a regular life and assuming he stopped Sozin, it's reasonable to say he would have lived more than 84-86 years (the time it would have taken for Sokka, Yue or Katara to be born). It's even possible he would have lived long encough that Korra would have still been the next Avatar.

Those are some weak arguments…

It would have been the moon spirit I forget her name but that’s why she was ill because the cycle was meant to be continued after aangs death but he didn’t actually die

So reincarnation in avatar is what happens to most people after death. When the avatar dies, the power isn't transferring to a new person, it goes with them into their next lifespan. With the avatar specifically, there's of course a focus on past lives, but that wouldn't make sense if it wasn't really their own past lives

Aang would've needed to live for almost a hundred years. However Aang only lived for 66 years outside of being frozen.
