What makes this episode my favorite is that because Avatar keeps proving to is that non benders are powerful too. We have Suki, Ty Lee, Mai, Piandao, Jet, the pirates from season 1 hell even Zuko knows how to fight without bending. But Sokka was always the non bender joke. everyone in the gaang made fun of him before for being a non bender. it addresses something so small but also so significant, and gives it closure
@matiasgonzalez1360

Zuko at this point of the serie is a much better swordman than firebender tbh
@DankSouls37
3 жыл бұрын
@@matiasgonzalez1360 I agree. Even though his progress as a bender doesn't look as clear as Katara's, if you pay attention you can really see him getting slowly more powerful. But I am not gonna lie, since we didn't see he bend much between season 2 finale and mid season 3 it feels like he became much more powerful without any reason to, I don't think he would be training when he just got everything he wanted and was living his life at the palace. Then he found new meaning in fire bending with the dragons and that only made him stronger
@Windjammer19
3 жыл бұрын

@aminotv713

DankSouls well the reason why Zuko became much stronger was because his mental condition was always his biggest problem. He relied solely on Anger and Hate and didn’t know the real purpose of Firebending. I guess he became more stronger since the season 2 finale since he was a lot more confident at this point, even tho he was confused. And even in Ba sing Se he was pretty strong there too. But when he learned from the dragons, he found inner peace and strength and that gave him much more power. If you watch his last fight and compare it to the first one, you’ll see his difference in style. At the beginning Zuko always attacks head on he literally chases and rushes at his opponents. In the end, he barely moves, he becomes a defensive/counterfighter. He is always Calm and concentrated. And as Iroh taught him, he used all 4 forms of bending and worked it in his firebending, so during the second half of season 3 he became really strong.
Fun Fact: The master that just trained Sokka also trained Zuko in the sword. And he was based off the martial artist that helps with the avatar's movements.

@@fahmi_simin9639 canon is just a marketing term. It means nothing. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is supposedly canon. Korra is supposedly canon. The Star Wars prequels and sequels are supposedly canon. But for someone who doesn't like them, they can still enjoy the originals. If you don't like the added value of a secondary work, you can still enjoy the primary work by ignoring it. If you do like them, you can include them if you want. In fact, you should be able to seperate and combine the two at any time and enjoy them for what they are apart as well as together. Saying that they must be included or must be excluded is just putting rules on your own enjoyment of a piece of fiction: its not necessary, and it might make you enjoy it less.

Piando is the definition of a dang dope character. He’s Nation Neutral and took on Sokka purely for his humility and even creativity! Just… best character and best dynamic!
“You added a rainbow.” And forgot the massive waterfall. In all seriousness though this is one of the best sword fights I’ve seen in any media. It’s not just cool choreography but smart use of tactics and the environment.
You know what, I never thought the way Sheera just did about the meteor sword. The fact Sokka wanted to be apart of helping the after effects of the meteor, his way of being apart of it was making something good out of a would be bad situation.
Fun fact: that suit of armor aang wore in the scene where sokka was doing “retail therapy” was actually supposed to be a joke from the creators to their sales team. they team asked the creators to make aang wear some over dramatic armor so they could make an action figure to make more sales but the creators said it’s out of character and doesn’t fit the theme. but they kept bugging them so the creators were just like “ok fine, here u go. do with this what u will” lol
Meteorites have a special type of iron, presumably from being exposed to the unique conditions of traveling through space. If I remember correctly, “space iron” is a radical isotope, therefore different than the general type of iron we all know. So it’s unique, special, just like Sokka.

Plus the actor who voiced him played the T-1000 aka the liquid metal Terminator who could turn his arms into blades from Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
last time i was this early Roku was still the avatar
11:19 my interpretation is that he chose the meteor because its what sparked him to go on this journey to find his worth to begin with. he only started having these feelings and thoughts of inadequacy when the team all worked together to minimize the damage from the meteor strike. thats probably why he chose the meteor for his sword (also they're rich in various metals like iron, nickel, zinc, etc.)

Nah think about it. If that sword master was part of irohs squad then he HAD to be strong ASF . He might have dropped them😂
What’s also cool is Meteor Steel is actually a thing you can get today. Some really impressive knives and other pieces were crafted using it. The black color of his blade is actually only possible with a black staining technique, but Man at Arms did a great attempt to make a replica of Sokka’s sword. Check it out, it’s dope as hell.
I saw someone once who said that individually Sokka and Aang are genius' in their fields, but put them together and they're the definition of the "My last two brain-cells" meme, and boy if that ain't the truth

7:01, the second time Aang burned Katara🔥🔥
Love how this episode is about discipline and growing up for Sokka, and with Iroh we see the results that has through his sheet strength and discipline
The waterfall Piandao has Sokka paint is heavily based on the Gullfoss Waterfall in Iceland, famed for its rainbows. Prior to beginning the final season, the show's creators traveled around Iceland, gathering inspiration for what the Fire Nation landscape would resemble. When Toph is playing with the meteorite rock at the end of the episode, one of the shapes she forms is a "splat". This is a reference to the Nickelodeon logo at the time of the episode's airing. The armor that Aang wears in the weapon shop is inspired by an early toy design of Aang with an armor suit. Additionally, the left gauntlet of the armor is similar to the right gauntlet design of the Soul Calibur character Nightmare. The white lotus appears a number of times in Piandao's castle, as do designs inspired by the lion turtle. Piandao suggests Sokka to use the name "Lee" while he is in the Fire Nation, as Lee is a common name. This is the same name Zuko used while living in the Earth Kingdom during the second book, while he was trying not to be discovered as being from the Fire Nation. What Piandao tells Sokka about imagining the sword as part of your own body mirrors what Suki told him about the fan in the first season. Zuko said something similar to Lee in "Zuko Alone", adding that his two swords are not separate, but two halves of the same deadly weapon. Robert Patrick, Piandao's voice actor, played the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The T-1000 could literally make its arms into swords, paralleling what Piandao says to Sokka when comparing the sword to a "long, very sharp arm". Piandao is based on Sifu Kisu, the fighting instructor for the show. The weapons store shopkeeper resembles Iroh and is even voiced by the same voice actor.
Sokka: I can’t do anything Lupa: Yes 😂😂

my favorite “i guess the jokes don’t run in the family” like damn 😭
People always get hung up on how fast Sokka learns swordplay, but it's not like he's starting from nothing. Throughout the show, he's shown at least some proficiency, or implied proficiency, with: - A boomerang (a pretty specialized weapon, if you think about it) - A watertribe club - A machete - A whalebone dagger - A spear (wielded against Zuko in Ep. 2, he probably wouldn't have tried using it unless he thought he could fight with it) - Kyoshi warrior fans He's smart and capable, and able to pick up on new skills quickly. Training with Piandao wasn't about becoming a warrior, but rather about realizing he already was one, and that he was worth more than he thought. He needed confidence.
Meteorite is actually used i some blade works. But its super expensive and still needs steel incorporated to make a good lade. Its often used as Damascus in layers.
I am 100% here for the headcanon that Yue sent the meteor for Sokka's space sword. We know she's keeping an eye on them from her appearing to Aang in the first episode of Book 3. I just really like the idea of Sokka's moon girlfriend looking out for him and doing him a solid every now and then. (SPOILERS) Also a big fan of the theory that she lent extra strength to Katara in her fight with Hama. I know Katara is a better bender, but she'd only just learnt the technique - Yue giving her a little boost makes sense.
@en4833
Жыл бұрын
So by your logic, Yue somehow knew that by sending a meteor to near their campsite, it would make Sokka feel insignificant and insecure about his place in the team, which would lead them to go shopping in that particular shop, where Sokka would find and admire one of Piandao's swords, and then the shop keeper would comment how Sokka had a good eye and tell him how awesome Piandao is, then Aang would come up with the idea for Sokka to train with a master, then Piandao would accept Sokka as his pupil because of his humble attitude, then Piandao would tell Sokka to make his own sword instead of just giving him one that fits, at which point Sokka would remember the meteor and come back for it to use for his sword? Yue foretold all of that? I don't know, it seems a little far fetched. Oh also, how would Yue send a meteor? She doesn't have control over everything in space just because she's in space as well.
I know this is an old video but I had some thoughts about the speed of Sokka's training that only occurred to me on rewatch. Lots of people say that they kind of rushed Sokka's experience with sword training because they have limited time to work with, but the more I thought about it the more I realised it's all basically an extrapolation of his existing experience and talents. He's a planner, we've seen that since forever, Sokka's a good strategist who thinks outside the box and can problem solve exceptionally well, but when he's caught off-guard, he kind of flounders. He usually picks up but it's the strength of the group that makes up for his shortcomings in not being able to react quickly to a problem. All Piandao's training focuses on exactly the fast thinking that Sokka hasn't really cultivated up to this point. It's not that Sokka learned how to be great with a sword in a day, it's that he learned to direct his existing skills in a faster pace, how to apply his strategic thinking more calmly. Commit to the battlefield, understand its situation, realise how the greater context of the surroundings can be used to support yourself. He's always been good at these things, but this is where he learns the confidence and thought process to do it in the moment.
These reactions always brighten up my day what a fantastic episode

The rainbow Sokka drew was from those hippie guys from Book 2 when they travel through the Badger Mole cave way to Omashu.
16:37 I never thought that. The order of the white lotus being what it is and how helpful it can be in a difficult situation, and that’s why Iroh made such a big deal to find a new tile.

Lee is also a reference to the Koreas, Last names were given to the people randomly based on the royalty, Kim, Lee n Park are the most common last names in the country.
This is one of those episodes that reminds me you really have to do elaborate mental gymnastics to make all the events of the show fit within the timeline it sets for itself. The three seasons taking place over less than a single year is completely silly and not believable, but it's still a great show so I guess it's not super important. If they just went back to season 1 and had Roku say you must defeat the fire lord before the comet comes in 3 years instead of one year, things would feel so much more correct. Sokka went from an ass beating by the butler to becoming a good swordsman in HOURS.
thats such a great concept about sokka's space sword. I saw it as the meteorite being a symbol at the beginning of his normal being. He felt so defeated that he couldn't do anything about the meteorite at the beginning, because he knew that if it was just him - the destruction would have progressed. But now he found a whole new meaning to it when he decided to make his sword out of it. And he turned that symbolism of the meteorite into a new one, one of his new skill set as a swordman.
Love that Toph bends the space earth in the Nicolodeon logo..
