SOG Tomahawk Review: Tactical, Survival, Bushcraft Hawk

The SOG Tomahawk is a solid utility tool/item. It came sharp, is solid, and can definitely be counted on for cutting. It's pretty light-weight, and if you can't carry a full-sized axe, this might be a good option for you. Check it out.

i got one of the fast hawks and its pretty great! i wish it were larger and that the axe head were wider, but its works so i cant complain :) jus be extra careful with the top corner, its slightly tapered so its really sharp. i should have been more careful because i ended up putting it in my hand lol

I got the small version with the molded plastic sheath. For me this is more of a carpenter's tool. This axe head is similar in design to a gyprock hammer/axe. The top of the blade is angled forward and gives you the ability to chop into a corner where as with a regular axe you couldn't do that.

The hammer part is to use with ur knife. For example cutting small pieces of wood into sticks for a fire. Or hammering in tent stakes.

Try throwing it spike first, the weight will allow the unsharpened spike to easily stick. The hammer feature works good for tent stakes.

These normally come wrapped in a plastic bag, zip-tied to a cardboard sleeve with Styrofoam blocks on both sides of the handle, and all of this in the box you showed. If your's didn't, then it was probably used as a display or maybe had been a customer return. Nice review. I will definitely subscribe and watch more.

Great tomahawk, especially foor the price. Nylon sheath truly sucks, though, Sheath grommet holes spaceing doesn't support tying it down well with paracord and the belt loop is so smae it's near useless. The SOG plastic sheath comes with a rotating Tek-Loc. I like it a lot but it cost me more than the Hawk! I liked the FastHawk enough that I bought another this year to attach to my car kept GHB, first one is on the GHB in the house.

this might not go over well, but i have this and the coghlans pack axe. at one pound, with super junky metal, i prefer the pack axe to the sog tomahawk. cuts better, is lighter, packs more easily. doesn't have the spike, and you can't hammer, but the curved blade actually lets it slice through the wood, (traditional axes are curved too.) for my money, both were gifted to me, but if i had to spend moneyt, i'd spend it on the coghlans (and have about twenty five left over)

I traded my Sog off to a bud and got the Estwing. Its so much more tuffer. I also found a Estwing camp hatchet at a garage sale for $2. I think it weights about the same and in reality is much handier. I rubbed off the rust with steel wool. Resharpened and oiled it. I like the blunt end more that the spike on my Black eagle........oh decisions, decisions.

+EverydayTacticalVids The reason why I'm interested in these tatical tomahawk. Is that I kinda see them more useful than combat knives.I seen people use the back end and twisted off the lock and braking it.However I'm just wondering is there a Tomahawk out there strong enough to smash a few holes in a brickwall?I'm just wondering because than Infantry can just use this for urban combat and make quick fighting positions by smash a few holes in the wall.

I do not recommend this. I bought mine a year ago. After a couple times throwing it the head gets loose and you cant tighten it back up becasue the screws are cheap aluminium I think and they strip.

Kev Gunner I've had mine for a few years now, used it a fair bit for chopping timber for campfires as well as throwing. hadn't effected the screws at all. nor have I had to sharpen it up much

This is called a tactical tomahawk because it is meant for battle. That's what tactical means. Otherwise, great review.

Weakest review and use footage I've ever seen. Takes a couple swings and needs to sit and talk. I cannot imagine this guy in a real SHTF scenario. Unless this is some kind of parody and he's a lot more serious than he pretends in this.
