SOG Tomahawk Review: Tactical, Survival, Bushcraft Hawk
The SOG Tomahawk is a solid utility tool/item. It came sharp, is solid, and can definitely be counted on for cutting. It's pretty light-weight, and if you can't carry a full-sized axe, this might be a good option for you. Check it out.

My friend. If that's your land, with the nice stream, you are truly blessed.
Thanks man - more to come this weekend. Got a bunch of items to talk about.
Thanks Eric. More coming after this weekend.
Awesome review man. Proper coverage and demonstration (in a natural survival setting, +) of what this tool can be used for, unlike some reviews where the guy just hacks away at random objects; you definitely have my subscription! Cheers!

Ha - good point. I guess I just want to see they care about products they send. If it got chipped on the way to me, I'd be disappointed.

Wow. Great review. Subscribed! :D
This is great vid so Im going to subscrib!
thanks man.
If you want something with a longer handle, check out BudK M48 Kommando or the BudK survival hammer.
u are actually a good thrower man!
i got one of the fast hawks and its pretty great! i wish it were larger and that the axe head were wider, but its works so i cant complain :) jus be extra careful with the top corner, its slightly tapered so its really sharp. i should have been more careful because i ended up putting it in my hand lol
I got the small version with the molded plastic sheath. For me this is more of a carpenter's tool. This axe head is similar in design to a gyprock hammer/axe. The top of the blade is angled forward and gives you the ability to chop into a corner where as with a regular axe you couldn't do that.
Not sure man. If you want something that can take a TON of stress, I'd recommend Gerber's new military-grade tomahawk. Check out my Shot Show review on it.
The hammer part is to use with ur knife. For example cutting small pieces of wood into sticks for a fire. Or hammering in tent stakes.
@kevinyoung947
Жыл бұрын
Naw it’s for armor piercing namely to go through helmets!!
Try throwing it spike first, the weight will allow the unsharpened spike to easily stick. The hammer feature works good for tent stakes.
This one fits that category. Cold Steel makes one too.
Snaps turned loose in the fabric on mine. Wasn't fond of no full tang but it's been ok so far, kinda surprised
Noted. I guess my angle is since so few will use it for that, let's talk about the average joe would use it. Thanks for the comment.
These normally come wrapped in a plastic bag, zip-tied to a cardboard sleeve with Styrofoam blocks on both sides of the handle, and all of this in the box you showed. If your's didn't, then it was probably used as a display or maybe had been a customer return. Nice review. I will definitely subscribe and watch more.
I'm curious what state this is located in? There's a nice blend of deciduous and coniferous trees in that forest. I'm picking one of these up later this week!
Man - sorry to hear that. I'll keep using mine and if it busts I'll post about it. Have you contacted SOG? Seems like that would be something they'd replace.
I have been looking at that actually. been debating it for a while.
Great tomahawk, especially foor the price. Nylon sheath truly sucks, though, Sheath grommet holes spaceing doesn't support tying it down well with paracord and the belt loop is so smae it's near useless. The SOG plastic sheath comes with a rotating Tek-Loc. I like it a lot but it cost me more than the Hawk! I liked the FastHawk enough that I bought another this year to attach to my car kept GHB, first one is on the GHB in the house.
Have you had any experience or seen the molded sheath for the sog tomahawk, and if you have could you post a review.
Ones u sharpin it and point the spike it's awesome
Thanks Viper - glad you liked it.
Great video sir .. Mind you that the Tomahawk was originally a weapon, So it might not make in the top 5 survival tool?

It's called Lone Harvest - check out Royalty Free Music by Kevin Macleod.
Yes sir - Everyday Tactical Vids is on Facebook under that name.
I bought this tomahawk about a year ago.The first time I used I I missed the log I was cutting. The thing went two inches into my leg creating a huge laceration.Nine stitches later I was walking out of an emergency room.

Sounds like axes aren't really ur thing...
Let me know if you get it - I'm interested to hear more about it.
this might not go over well, but i have this and the coghlans pack axe. at one pound, with super junky metal, i prefer the pack axe to the sog tomahawk. cuts better, is lighter, packs more easily. doesn't have the spike, and you can't hammer, but the curved blade actually lets it slice through the wood, (traditional axes are curved too.) for my money, both were gifted to me, but if i had to spend moneyt, i'd spend it on the coghlans (and have about twenty five left over)
Paid 35 bucks too on amazon. Really looking forward to getting it.
i like my desert dagger fixed blade with kraton handle bought through army in 91' still brand new condition.. its hard to find 1 under $600..
New Hampshire, DR.
Like to take this handle and put it on the camp axe for a longer handle
I bought a SOG tomahawk today
Do you know how much stress the Handel can take? Other then normal works.
No your not an expert axe thrower , your a axepert

Thanks. I'd love to partner up on a project - let me know if you're interested.
Would be nice if they out a little fixed blade in the handle
I just got one and mine has a lifetime warranty, get in contact with them and I bet they will give you a new one.
Lol i dont think that was oak mate. Been a woodworker for 6 uears now and iv made everything from cabinets to grips for 1911s.... Never have i been able to hammer a nail into oak without pre-drilling, even with a real hammer.
Got mine for 19.00 at Amazon.
How long is the handle?
aftermarket case- get one

I traded my Sog off to a bud and got the Estwing. Its so much more tuffer. I also found a Estwing camp hatchet at a garage sale for $2. I think it weights about the same and in reality is much handier. I rubbed off the rust with steel wool. Resharpened and oiled it. I like the blunt end more that the spike on my Black eagle........oh decisions, decisions.
the box also says its well balanced for throwing... Not quoting it. it says it in another way but the box is in my car, and its cold.
I use the spike to dig cat hole latrines
i bolted my sheaf to my jeep. put it in then velcro strap handle perfect..

on the package I got it said u could shave with it too
I killed a pissed off raccoon with it. I will say that it took to hits but it did the job . The raccoon was trapped in my large city issued trash can and I tried everything not to kill it but when I dump it over it attacked me and two tomahawk hits later dead raccoon. So I guess you could hut raccoons with it

20$ Walmart. Gotta love it.
throwing it spike first is done to do half spins.
I found my SOG tomahawk in a dumpster
I got one a while ago trust me the pick doesn't need to be sharp 4 stitches...
SOG makes novelty knives with subpar quality..Ive tried a few including the SOGFARI and the fasthawk..the sheaths are CRAP tangs broke on both and the beltloops unraveled almost immediately..Like I said NOVELTY..The price should be indicative of the quality
LAST TREE WASN'T A OAK, IT WAS A MAPLE. SORRY, MY CAPS LOCK IS STUCK ON, BUT I LIKE THE AXE
Dang I got mine for 25 I love it for the price though
4:28 please what is that song

Let me know what you have in mind. I see UNH on your sweatshirt. Is that for University of New Hampshire? My shop is in Jaffrey, NH

the tomahawk is designed for combat (throwing)not for chopping wood!! just a fyi

Shows how much you know. It was used as a multi purpose tool including chopping wood up to as a boarding axe used by the Royal Navy, besides used as a weapon. I just love people, who all of sudden become experts and don't know anything what they speak of.

@@keithlapere7650 is that what native Americans only developed it for seems limiting when it can easily apply in other parts of their daily lives
Two question can it split wood and can it handle hard use.

Splitting wood - small wood yes, nothing bigger though. I used it pretty hard and had no issues with it.

+EverydayTacticalVids The reason why I'm interested in these tatical tomahawk. Is that I kinda see them more useful than combat knives.I seen people use the back end and twisted off the lock and braking it.However I'm just wondering is there a Tomahawk out there strong enough to smash a few holes in a brickwall?I'm just wondering because than Infantry can just use this for urban combat and make quick fighting positions by smash a few holes in the wall.

I got mine for $45
Thanks - appreciate the sub.
If I get it. I'll try to tag you in a review or something. Do you have a facebook acc?
i have that
You miss quite alot with your hacking.. He,he.. Have the same axe but I find it to be more like a weapon or a show off!! My sheet broke apart the third tine I took the axe out of it.. The pop- things came to an end..
i would not use the blunt part to break rock, thats gonna damage the antirust coating and damage the tip,i suggest you don't do that
@kakarotcabage3573
10 жыл бұрын
3:45 he says use it to break rocks, and also i forgot to mention thats made out of 420 steel, which is the weakest stainless steel, the edge is going to get blunted very easy and you constantly need to sharpen it,and if you use the blunt part to break rocks you are probably gonna bend it,
It’s a good weapon for killing snakes

I do not recommend this. I bought mine a year ago. After a couple times throwing it the head gets loose and you cant tighten it back up becasue the screws are cheap aluminium I think and they strip.

Kev Gunner I've had mine for a few years now, used it a fair bit for chopping timber for campfires as well as throwing. hadn't effected the screws at all. nor have I had to sharpen it up much

why bubble wrap a good tool? its a tomahawk!!
This is called a tactical tomahawk because it is meant for battle. That's what tactical means. Otherwise, great review.
First
Nice tomahawk. Terrible coordination. You're no last of the Mohicans....lol
Weakest review and use footage I've ever seen. Takes a couple swings and needs to sit and talk. I cannot imagine this guy in a real SHTF scenario. Unless this is some kind of parody and he's a lot more serious than he pretends in this.
