SOG Agency: "Legacy of Fight" by Nutnfancy
Ғылым және технология
When the enemy is unconventional, fight unconventionally. In this SOG fixed blade review, I start off with commentary on how conventional, foolish tactics got a lot of American troops killed in our past wars. We were shocked at the brutality and fanatasim of the Japanese Imperial Marines at Tarawa and they taught us some hard won lessons. Showing no adherence to Western conventions, this enemy would use any methodology including phony surrenders, shooting of medics rendering aid, bombing of hospitals, suicide bombings, Bonzai charges, and close quarter sword charges to hew down American troops. Only when we upped our game in battle commitment and equal brutality did we gain the upper hand in the Pacific Island War in WW II. Amazingly many of those lessons against such an enemy were forgotten in Korean and later Vietnam. Conventional forces, hamstrung by ignorant leadership and ridiculous order of battle constraints and limitations, often met with failure and high casualities. US Special Forces had more latitude in the execution of their specialized missions which acted as force multipliers. Their highly dangerous missions needed specialize gear often excelling in the mission of killing. Operating behind enemy lines gathering intel, capturing key leaders, destroying C&C assets, and leader assassinations were carried out by these brave souls. Enter the SOG Agency. Patterned somewhat after the famous Randall Number 1 combat knife, this fighting knife represents the mystique and that uncompromising approach to warfare of those special operations units. And yet without substance it would fade away into obscurity. Like ithe Randall No. 1, the Agency is a dedicated fighting blade. The heft and balance are superb. The AUS8 razor sharp blade is hollow ground, handsomely sculpted (discussed), features excellent reach and penetration, and is lively in hand. Handling the Agency will make you a believer. The black titanium nitride finish on this blade is especially striking and is my preferred finish. The satin SOG Agency is also gorgeous and both make outstanding additions to a tactical blade collection. Fit and finish is excellent but I'd like to see a more perfect excution of the leather to metal fit on the handle; that's about the only detectable downside in the knife. This expoxy impregnated leather-stacked handle is extremely roomy and comfortable in your chosen grip. And while it might lack ultimate water resistance and grip, it is true to the 2nd Kind of Cool and its heritage. The aluminum pommel and flush spanner nut is exquisite and adheres to the SOG pommel finishing. The double quillion guard is near perfect: curved and perfectly spanned to protect your hands. No jimping needed here. The black leather sheath is thematic, conventional, and shows good quality. Stitiching is well done and, like the Randall, it includes a honing stone in a pocket. If put into hard service by a troop, I would seek a Kydex option perhaps at the expense of lineage adherence. With such a sheath upside down carry could be effected. Weight seems less than it is due to the Agency's perfect balance: 10 oz for the blade, 15.6 oz overall. Value on this overseas produced knife is outstanding, about $125 for the Agency Black TiNi version, about $105 US for the satin. The SOG Agency therefore is amazing production blade that upholds the mystique and capabilities of US Special Operations communities that sometimes hunt down and eliminate the enemy is his own backyard, nose to nose, toe to toe...the old fashioned way of winning wars. Though gorgeous in its lines and materials, it remains an effective weapon of close quarter combat, ready to fight the unconventional enemies of freedom. ///////////////Likability Scale: 10 out of 10 (price considered)/////////Music licensed from J. Second row down on the box there is a missing "G". Right side.
Seen alot of Nutnfancy vids i gotta say this is one of the best ones ive seen intro, background, and hard facts. What's not to love.
Army Ranger: Rolex GMT, Browning Hi-Power in 9mm, Randall knife, gold link bracelet to get out of town. Not tacti-cool but a badge. Still have mine.
Marines coming back from the NAM in the DMZ area said fighting NVA was like fighting another Marine platoon.
I actually own one of these knives, and next to my Kabar it's my favorite knife. One thing I'd like to say about the historical points before. They were good, but the Japanese learned to fear and respect US Marines as well. Wake Island taught them that, when 450 marines, held of an entire invasion fleet. My grand father was a Marine Raider, one the original bad asses, he respected his enemy, but knew his duty was to make them fear him, and the legacy he up held. Great vid.
Hey Nutn, what do you think of pressing this knife into a SHTF woods blade? Also, what do you think of the Cold Steel OSI in AUS 8A as a SHTF woods blade? The reason I ask is that I live in Vermont, where snow and moisture are a big concern, and there are very few quality, stainless, lighter weight options available at a reasonable price. One more question, as a system, would a Sawvivor and either of the above blades, or a Cold Steel Recon Tanto make a good SHTF combo?
As usual.....great presentation and no nonsense review. It is always great to see and listen to your enthusiasm. Best to you, Tactical, Mrs and of course the mountain dog.
Love him or hate him, this is THE BEST Nutnfancy video.
I had convinced myself that a Kabar was the way to go for my system. After watching this review, I need to get one of these in my hands. Beautiful piece.
Great review, and great looking knife. I loved the history portion in the beginning of the review. I am going to pick this one up after Christmas. Keep up the great work
nutn...your intro was awesome! keep these kinds of stories comin' I just love to learn from them!
i've come back to this video so many times because that knife just speaks to me. it's such a beauty, and then you add on its history and it gets impossibly cooler. still don't have money for a fixed blade over 100, but man, if the agency came with a kraton version of the handle and a kydex/plastic sheath? ...as it is now, it still may find its way into my collection, even with a low budget haha
One of my FAVORITE VIDS EVER on the Nutnfancy channel
This is a rediculously fun review. I was looking for SOG Agency reviews and got lucky that you had this. I dig the first 10 minutes as well as the actual review and the fact that this wasn't a conventional review but something Nutnfancy just had a good time with this one.
Long review but with a stunning knife to look at, time well spent. Love your enthusiasm Nutn. Thanks for the vid.
This is what sets nutnfancy apart from the rest. Few people give (or are able to give)the type of 'feel' of a product like nutn' and no one is as comprehensive. Thanks nutn' ..God bless.
This has to be one of your best reviews of all time.
Beautiful knife, and great review. The intro was a nice touch.
Love the history behind this knife. Makes it that much more special.
Thanks for the throwback nutn! I always love seeing SOG come up in your reviews, they make interesting knives.

This is not just a knife review, it's a documentary! Cool, man! And those knives are awesom, both the Blackjack and the SOG. Beautiful.

Great video had to watch this review again nutn after I recently watched your new video "Origins of sog" with spencer frazer, totally looking at getting this blade in tini and always value your intelligent and realistically views and opinions you have in the review, well put together video totally enjoyed it and especially the historic events you talked about and how you ended the vid on that note with that theme of music, cheers and support for TNP always from Canada, keep up the great vids!
thank you for your vids nutn, love them!
Super pumped to see you review this one. Saw this on an ODAT site a while back for less than $100, could not pass it up. It's my absolute favorite knife that I own, by far.
I love this knife. I got the SOG recon bowie years ago and haven't seen a sexier blade shape till this knife. Great video.
Simply a beautiful blade. Your reviews keep me broke, each time I think I have got my blade addiction under control, you cause me to lust after another piece of steel.
My Friend, you are more addictive than crack. :) I just ordered the exact blade. Looking forward to receiving it. I will add it to my mile long list of items you have recommended that I have purchased. Thanks for all your efforts and time to create well thought out, interesting, and educational videos. Your due dilliegence is second to NONE!!!
Yay, was waiting for this review for a really long time...Kudos, Nutn!!

God Bless the "Men with Green Faces". Great review... I want one now... Keep Kickin' ass Nutn!
Nice review and to the point...thanks Nutnfancy.
Outstanding Review. Great historical significance.
Would you recommend this knife for self defence situations?
33 minutes on a knife and I watched it twice! Your best work yet Nutn! Best knife review on the internet. Period
excellent history...good on you nutnfancy.
@Haidle7758 How many of my reviews have you actually watched "tough guy?" This was one of hundreds of knife reviews I've done. Feel free not to watch anymore.
my brother had one of these knives when I was back at high school and i was so jealous. Probably going to be the first fixed blade I buy that nutn has reviewed.
@jamesb18c5 Thanks man for taking the time to watch and comment...we try to have fun with it!
What a great review Nutnfancy.
You are really good at using music in your videos. That is such a beautiful, elegant knife. And, you know a SOG is going to be practical!
anyone know what video nutnfancy uses his ka-bar knife on his camping trip??? :/
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BLADES EVER IMO
what are your thoughts on the kabar TDI law enforcement knives? I have been kickin around the idea of getting one for a while.
What an awesome looking and performing knife. Great review Nutn love SOG
Excellent history lesson, and awesome review!
Can the Cold Steel Military Classic be comparable to the SOG and Randall? I don't know the detail specs, but they all look similar.
Im getting one now . No more waiting!!
Great review! Time to work some overtime to get this one!
Great job with the history intro Nutn. Sets the stage for the review perfectly. This knife is extremely nice. Finnish reminds me of my old Colt Python.
Nutn': very interesting take. You're doing an exceptional work. Best from Spain.
by far my favorite review by nutn
Outstanding, I just love these fixed blade fighting knives! They are a very personal weapon, but they are just so very, very effective.
@nutnfancy I can't find it in your library when i searched your channel....you didn't take it off did you? (i started watching your vid like this year so i can only search thru title on youtube) did you use it on your "wild spear in action"??? the one you use cold steel war head to a spear and stuff...i'm watching all your vids that has "deer" as keyword
Excellent review!!! Absolutely enjoyed all 34 minutes of it.
My dad's a Vietnam veteran ,he was issued an M16 bayonet but he had some buddies that carried SOG's ,good review
Great review as always please review the cold steel GI Tanto
As usual, very cool vid on very cool blade. I'm in the middle of a Vietnam War Class right now, and just happened to catch this today after a very cool lesson on the guerrila forces on both sides of the DMZ. I really enjoyed the historical take in the beginning, it really gives people an outlook and idea for the purpose of these knives. I myself am trying to get into one of the units you mentioned. Outlook on this really gives me some ideas, but personally I am a Demo guy. As usual, HOOAH Sir!
Great, detailed review Nutn! Yeah, they're long but you're the only dude who covers the topic and the product to maximum extent. I always tell people, if you're short of time or patience, use the fast forward slider. :) Keep up the great work brother!
Awesome with the pics and history big win on this vid.
Mr. Nutnfancy u have inspired me. just last sunday i purposely took a a 40+ lb pack and hiked Guadalupe Mt. highest point in Tx. thank you NutnFancy
Don't forget Marine Force Recon. They came before the SEALs and were in my opinion the baddest of the bad. Love the Vids, keep em coming.
@StubProductions "This video is a bit indulgent" Not really sure what that means but ok. This vid is made for my fixed blade aficionados and I speak to them in the video. Everyone else is welcome to come along for the ride but some won't get it. I actually like the finished product here and it seems others do, it's getting about 10,000 views a day for now. Thanks for watching though I will probably make some more interesting vids for you later on.
is that black jack kife a convex ground? it kinda looks like it.
good video nutn and veri keep up the great work
Loved this review. Long intro was sweet, knife is totally cool.
Will you be reviewing the Cold Steel Leatherneck SF? I saw a review of it were it broke, but I'd like to see another hard use test of it before I decide if I'm going to buy it or not.
Many historical sources cite the Randall 14 & 1 as the most sought after blades by SF Green Berets, "Snake Eaters." and carried by those who could save the money for one. I haven't found much that cited it as being very popular with SEALs, and like you said, KaBars were definitely the most common.
@MrKaneShadow Thanks my friend. I try to find the story in some of the items and this was came to me pretty clearly. I love these blades.
Dude your reviews are killing my bank account this is yet another knife i have bought because of you, mine is the AG01-L version. Feels real good in the hand fast and light yet with a feeling of solid strength. Not to keen on the sheath so will be visiting my local saddler for a leather custom and online for a kydex. Keep up the good work. God bless.
drool.. this beauty is a dream. thanks for the review!
Can you do a review on the sog tomcat 3.0?
HO-LY hell! that looks so freaking good! They really aced the design on that one!
i'm only at the intro and i already want it...damn you nutnfancy!
great vid. Very good points!
Love the Sounds Efects !!
Blackjack really aren't too much more $ than the SOG, $50 or less increase. That said, no other company really mass produces these style knives, aside from the excellent, $220 San Mai Military. Classic. SOG does an excellent job making job knives at good prices, and they do an excellent heat treat. But if you're looking for a classic military blade on a budget, remember a lot of soldiers used Buck 119's and 120's, which are still made in the USA, still beautiful, great leather sheath, and sell for $45-70. Worth considering.
Nutnfancy's Comprehensive Weapon Reviews. Now with extra social awareness! Your videos keep getting better bro. All the best.
half four in the morning and im watching nutnfancy... AGAIN!
More awsome wisdom spoken perfectly from nutnfancy... God Bless You and TNP. Love the TNP philosophy.
Very good!
How about a vid at what sf uses now?
what is the song?
Love the intro. Now I want one.
How about review on this 1-7 Blackjack?
@msay2006 Thank you! I did my best explaining my addiction to these cool blades...they are non apologetic fighters, love them. I really dig that Blackjack 1-7 too.
what about the Cold Steel R1 Military Classic? (I got one from a guy pretty cheap and I love it)
@St0ffel0f by the way what does this :s mean?
anybody have a personal comparison between this and the KaBar fighting knife? great stuff Nutn!!! keep going--no retreat--you keep on raising the bar in content and artistic flare!
need one of these
I can't choose between agency and seal elite. But I'm leaning towards agency, it have leather pouch, so its better for me for edc. Seal have kydex and nylon, but I dont like nylon and velcro.
Loved the video nutnfancy
I was wondering when you were going to review this knife! I use this as a camping/hiking knife for the last year or so. Best investment I have ever made.
