HP1 is my favourite track of all time and I have listened to all the available live versions, and whilst all sublime in their own way, I am glad to say, in my humble opinion, the album version is by far the best. Not just because of the content and arc of the solo, but also Allan’s sound, which is a bit more meaty on the that version. RIP Maestro Allan. Peace

Apart from the last few years when it was Jenkins' project entirely , the softs were always great from The Daevid Allen (R.I.P.) years, and now ,2017 sees them back on the road,as they have been for about ten years now. It's the same because both are written by the same guy. Karl Jenkins, the guy on soprano sax and later, keyboards, was the keyboardist and oboist in Nucleus before he joined Soft Machine. It might also have had to do with the fact that Soft Machine's drummer at this point, John Marshall, was also the drummer in Nucleus when "We'll Talk About it Later" was recorded, and not only that, but Allan Holdsworth, who joined Nucleus a few albums later, also ended up in Soft Machine!

Avevo solo 17 anni e mi è rimasta impressa. Ad Under 20 ricordo Ornette Coleman suonare un brano poi apparso su "Dancing in your head" ed i S.M. suonare All White.

If your perceptions are reliable, it was probably because of a bad sound person wherever you were. I saw him many times over many years, and the mix was almost always excellent, and his guitar was always out front when it needed to be, and sounding fantastic. He never intentionally buried himself in the mix as you seem to be implying, although here I do think he's mixed way low, but it's unrelated; it isn't his band, and it's a television production which probably meant the band had no say in the mix anyway.

If your perceptions are reliable, it was probably because of a bad sound person wherever you were. I saw him many times over many years, and the mix was almost always excellent, and his guitar was always out front when it needed to be, and sounding fantastic. He never intentionally buried himself in the mix as you seem to be implying, although here I do think he's mixed way low, but it's unrelated; it isn't his band, and it's a television production which probably meant the band had no say in the mix anyway.

dopo aver ascoltato Holdsworth cambiava mestiere...
Soft Machine fans might like this special video for “The Floating World” from Bundles. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJ6cxsSwidnNgM4.html
in 2022 Italians still keep on pay for RAI...it's a fuking tax...for the national tv that just broadcast CRAP. I wish I were in 1974 for paying to watch that shows! Even if Soft Machine isn't CORPO MORBIDO...Corpo Morbido means Soft Body...
Hazard Profiles in its raw infancies. Really bad mixed!

I would say the song was pretty fully fleshed out already, having been released as "Song for the Bearded Lady" when Jenkins was with Nucleus.
Shame the balance between the instruments is so poor. Holdsworth close to inaudible, Jenkins too loud, Ratledge nowhere. But then this isn't really the Soft Machine: it's Nucleus without Ian Carr, with Ratledge as the token original member.
visti a Livorno nel 75...odio Allan Holdswort..questa dei Nucleus è Song for the bearded lady da Well talk about it later, molto piu trascinante che qui...buona anche questa,ma i very Soft Machine sono finiti con la cacciata di Robert Wyatt da parte di Mike Ratledge, così dice Wyatt in un intervista
Porque la mald..ta costumbre de poner a camarografos o directores estupidos...como en pleno solo enfoca hasta a la mosca menos a Allan Holdsworth...
