@timtommersen It goes to show how the EU views Turkey. They acknowledge that they are in a 'grey zone area', where european norms are blurred, and free speech may not be always welcome. In such cases, it is common practice to be as politically correct as possible for the sake of good foreign relations. Of course Turkey and every other 'Turkey' feeds from that.

The President of Germany is elected by the Bundestag, the president of Switzerland by the Federal Assembly, the president of Italy by an electoral college, etc. They all can be called to make very decisive political decisions and their democratic legitimacy was never put in question.

Nobody is elected by the people in the EU. The people can only vote for political entities in the European Parliament.

Well, it has nothing to do with the turkish govt, the. EU commission for foreign affairs has notified the protocols division in the turkish presidential palace that they need only one chair in the official meeting and turks did what they were asked to do.

It was straight forward. Your a woman and your not equal. I’d be pissed as a woman.

Erdogan's behavior towards Mrs. von der Leyen matches with the recent events casting away the protection of women in Turkey. Whatever you think about the EU and Mrs. von der Leyen, but this was quite rude indeed.
