Yeah My version of Nia was abused by her controller in the past and suffers from PTSD because of it which would give kids a message that some people may have gone though a traumatic ordeal in the past and that we should be more accepting of those with disabilities

"Not Now, Charlie" is a Brenner era ep and most of Charlie episodes are in the Miller era. that’s why he was actually good

I like the Community's take on these two a lot better. Billy, a snobbish engine who think the world should revolve around him. Charlie, a stand-up comedian

I wonder if they made Charlie without realizing they already used the same basis for Billy. Since this was like five or so seasons apart and I’m assuming they hired new writers for the cgi seasons than the model seasons.

My girlfriend doesn't like Salty's teeth so her reaction to Billy was pretty funny.

Fun Fact: Charlie is literally the CGI version of Billy. Billy was going to be in all of Charlie's S13 roles, but Miller decided to make a whole new character. Billy is even in the original versions of Hiro Of The Rails.

I really had no problem with Nia or Rebecca as characters. I hated that they replaced Edward and Henry, but I felt that they were at least harmless with regards to their personalities and they seemed to exist for a reason beyond just selling toys or making bad jokes, something that can't be said about Charlie or Billy.

To be honest Rebecca and Nia have more character that Stanley or Norman (The latter being a pointless character)

Billy had potential to be a well-rounded character. The problem is that this potential was shattered because the only episode ever to have Billy appear, just had to be written by Sharon Miller.

BILLY IS THE ONLY STEAM LOCOMOTIVE THAT VERY DESERVEDLY SCRAPPED

Here is my story about Billy. It will be titled as "Silly Billy's Redemption". This story will take place after the events of "Don't Be Silly Billy". Billy is beginning to feel remorseful and guilty about his disobedience and bratty attitude towards Thomas. But when the railway becomes busier than ever, Billy gets a second chance and Thomas decides to teach him how to shunt trains for the other engines. And instead of disobeying, Billy finally begins to learn to listen to advice and do as he is told. But some other engines do not trust Billy one bit, not even Percy, Mavis and Diesel. It soon changes when a runaway Diesel goes too fast with the troublesome trucks pushing behind him and it's up to Billy to redeem himself and save the day in order to prove himself a useful engine and that he has changed his ways!

Is it bad that I don’t mind nia and Rebecca? I mean yes they replaced Edward and Henry which is a crime punishable by death, but I like the idea and potential each character has. Of course Mattel screwed it up because they’ll never understand why Thomas is what it is today, but you look at something like NWR53’s story “The West Country Runaway” and you see what I mean. Mattel didn’t handle the characters well, only caring about the surface value of representation, not characterization.

The way that they handled Rebecca was just completely disrespectful with Gordon's outburst. Technically it's Childish and would be so if literally any other character, but having the straight laced Dignified "Upper Class" character completely snap and go all over the place was a clear move from the writers that those that liked Henry need to go fuck themselves. Perhaps I'm not the biggest fan of Henry in the universe but you don't get away with doing that to Gordon or Henry without thinking I'm never going to show this to my kids, or recommend to anyone being a parent anything beyond like Season 11.

@@mmouse1886 I mean there is seasons 18 - 21. Now don’t show them ‘that’ episode, but I still think that season 20 especially should still be seen by kids and adult fans alike. However, season 12, the Shannon Miller era, and BWBA can be sidelined in my eyes. If I do show my kids Thomas, I want it to be what I think they should learn, not what others think they should know about certain topics. (That being the very stereotypical international episodes of BWBA)

In my opinion, I actually like Billy. Billy may be annoying, but maybe if he had a better voice, he could be a better character. Billy did find Thomas bossy, which if you think about it, makes sense. If I was in Billy's shoes, I'd probably think Thomas was bossy too, but I wouldn't say that, and do what he told me to do. Billy isn't on my top favorites for sure, but at least at the end, he did change his ways and became a better character. Maybe if he had a better voice and arrived to the railway in the attitude he had at the end of Don't Be Silly Billy, he could be a likable character.

Maybe put Billy in a situation where he has to work with Bradford, and Billy takes is strict and uptight nature for being rude and unhelpful, only to later on cause confusion and delay and damage Bradford to the point where he needed to be taken to the works.

In my headcanon, the reason Billy didn't appear after season 11 was because he was on the mainland doing odd jobs, and then in 2010, he came back to sodor along with his brother Charlie. Charlie came to sodor in 2010 i think since season 13 came out in either 2009 or 2010. But anyway, Billy came back and he and Charlie had fun, they both like racing

Charlie is better simply because he just seems to be that guy who wants to make people laugh but has a hard time knowing to pull it back. He means well but on the reverse it cause other people NOT to take him seriously when he's actually pretty good at his job. But Billy, wtf? He's just a straight up jerk.

Billy's existence baffles me, like they there's so many other characters they could've used for the same purpose as him. Bill and Ben, Rosie etc. He doesnt even look cool so it's not like he'd sell toys.

I never realized that Billy and Charlie had the same design.

I grew up really liking Charlie, and I didn't even see the episode Billy was in I just knew he existed. Nowadays, I'm not a fan of either. There's a fan made engine named Wendell that I think should have replaced Billy, they are similar classes.

These little editorials hit different. I think this show more than any other I've seen has so many one shot throwaway characters with wasted potential. I thought Billy was fine, really no more or less interesting than Season 9's Dennis. Charlie is just generic funny guy, much more annoying than Billy since he had a legit personality. Nia and Rebecca are terrible characters that show a lot of problems with the corporate takeover of the show, wheras previous ones were just merchandise one shots

So that's why ryan was created, i didn't hate charlie that much, i sort of find him funny, i even questioned myself: what happened to charlie? ( i keep mistakening ryan for charlie ) but billy on the other hand: I HATED HIM! ( 1:21 ) WHY?! I Miss Edward & Henry!

The one thing Charles is good at is getting his water tank striped of for the firebox of my big city engine custom.

Billy and Charlie are brothers so that makes sense, and the reason I don’t like Nia or Rebecca is cuz they replaced Henry and Edward On the Steam Team to “MAKE THE AMOUNT OF GENDERS ON THE TEAM EQUAL” Like wtf?

Billy will always be a terrible character, and nothing will change my mind. I can see why a lot of people don't like Charlie. I personally don't mind him. Sure he's annoying, but at least he wasn't a jerk-wad like Billy. Since I like bad jokes and puns I enjoyed hearing Charlie make them.
