It's been almost 11 years since i deleted facebook. The one thing that feels bad about doing that is how estranged i ended up from everybody. No idea anymore what's going on in peoples lives because they only share on social media. The absolute worst experience was the time i had to battle cancer and friends and family would only visit me on facebook. That's when i quit. Bumped into some people later and they actually said Yeah you were off facebook all of a sudden so there was no way to ask how you were doing. It's has become very rare to visit somebody or having people visit me. They have no time left it seems and when it happens they are burried in their phones the entire time. This feels like the zombie apocalypse to me and i hate it. Channels like this keep me sane.

Thank you for sharing. I say this selfishly because your post really hit home for me. My own social media exit was under less dramatic circumstances (no illness, no drama really, just a realization that it was adding nothing good to my life while injecting avoidable poison into too much of it) but the result was the same. No one seems to know how (or, worse, feel any reason) to engage with others in real life anymore. Everyone says they are lonelier than they've ever been but we still insist on settling for a sad and paltry facsimile of human contact rather than the real thing. Leaving social media ejected me into the void and I didn't so much lose my friends as find out, to my horror, that I didn't mean much to them in the first place. After attempting to maintain real world contact with the ones I actually cared about it became clear that they simply couldn't be bothered. Being a real live person rather than a mediated "Friend" was apparently too much trouble. Real relationships are just too much work, when you can feel as though you are doing your best for everyone by simply "liking" a post on their "wall" now and again and contenting yourself that you've done all you can in this deplorable modern corruption of human interaction. I'm less immediately depressed now than I was when I had Fakebook breathing down my neck 24/7 but I think I'm actually far and away more existentially depressed than ever at the realization of how little I actually matter as anything besides a cascade of ones and zeroes. Flesh and blood is very cheap these days and getting cheaper all the time.

Same here. During illness I found myself getting 'messages' but very few visitors. These are 'friends', they say. The problem that I face now is complete invisibility. My family forgot about me too. Right now I have isolated myself in a way that is unhealthy. But this has also turned me into one of the strogest minds inside my inner circle. A little bit of cynicism to avoid conflicts, but overall I am much more prepared for 'harshness' and less inclined to fake-realities (the narratives most people dwell nowadays).

I'm a 53yo male so I have lived both sides of internet & still see no need for more than an email for both business and personal. I love the art of conversation, something I find missing in todays younger generation. I work with young people who are incapable of carrying out simple instructions as they cannot concentrate. When challenged, they're quick to tell the boss they 'feel bullied' yet think it is fine to be idle whilst on the clock. Regardless of management style, too many simply do not want to do hard work. I have always thought the idea of 'posting your life online' is pure narcissism. Advertising has a lot to answer for, and we all should understand the process behind selling products. The areas that have exploded in popularity during Covid-19 are a true measure of what society has become.

They’re all putting on a show. Part of growing up is being able to make mistakes and learn from them without thousands or even millions of people watching and expecting you to be or react a certain way or keeping track of your every move leaving you paralyzed and afraid to just be. Live your private life and make your mistakes, learn your lessons, and do this knowing you won’t have to answer to anyone but yourself. You will change, adapt and grow but only if you give yourself the liberty to do so without having to pretend or maintain an image. You’re allowed to change your mind, your style, your lifestyle, your major lol! literally everything is accessible to you to change and it’s part of discovering who you truly want to be. As someone who deleted social media as a junior in high school, and is now a junior in college, I gotta say life is good. I’m not trying to keep up with others or be the first to be successful. My thoughts flow free without alteration and are a lot more grounded in reality. I get along with all sorts of people, even if they may lay on a completely different side of my political compass, I’m still able to hold conversation with them and even understand some of their reasonings without worrying about my own integrity. I find more fun in doing hobbies, and have grown more patient, rational, and free. It’s tough in the beginning, yet as time progresses you’ll begin to feel and learn about all sorts of things, and truly realize how the happiest people don’t need followers to be happy in life.

Good points, but isn't youtube social media too? Every channel being monetized is desperate for followers and views. They celebrate subs and view counts as milestones of pride, and beg for them, and fiscal handouts constantly. Channels that I respect for their content make me cringe with their begging.

Yeah, it's just difficult now due to the abundance of information. It was easier for people to consume and engage with material back then because they would go to a public library, and there would be a considerable amount of books on certain topics. Now, it's just an endless sea of information flying before our eyes and entire histories of civilizations summarized in 10-minute videos. My point is, it's easier to be engaged when options are limited.

I remember trying too hard to become more popular on social media. It was one of my lowest points emotionally. I was jealous, stressed and depressed when I compared myself to others. Then, one day, I saw what influencers actually do for their posts, and told myself that I’m not like them. So I stopped caring. Now I just use SM to see what people are up to.

Before the Pandemic, I could barely scroll through Social Media (FB,Twitter,Insta) without becoming anxious. But there was a point last year when everyone was just _on_ and _online_ and _everywhere_ and _active_ and _angry_ and exhausted at the same time, reacting to every bit of activity of the government, celebrities and wealthy people in general and, of course, each other. I had to get away. I feel so well-rested, less anxious, two months after deactivated my accounts.

I'm so sick of the polarisation and anger everywhere.

We live in both a mental and physical environment. We can influence the mental environment around us, but *to a far greater extent we are influenced by the mental environment.* *The mental environment contains forces that affect our thinking and emotions and that can dominate our personal minds.* Many individuals and races in the Greater Community, including the Intervention, can exert tremendous influence in the mental environment, while humanity is largely ignorant that the mental environment even exists. Knowledge is the only part of you that is unaffected by the Mental Environment. It is the only part of you that is free from deception and manipulation. From: *The Allies of Humanity* Book Two, First Commentary: *The Problem of Human Denial* *Technology only aids the Intervention in remaining hidden and in giving it certain powers over people’s physical response* to their presence. But it is *the power of persuasion in the mental environment,* the power of making people think what the Intervention wants them to think, to feel what the Intervention wants them to feel and to do what the Intervention wants them to do that represents its greatest strength and advantage here. I lost friendship with a friend of 40 years. She just seemed to became someone else and a person that I had talked to for 40 years seemed to not accept any words I would say. I said to her. I don’t get it, I am talking to you just like I always have but it’s not working now. You are not the same. After hearing this about Profilicity, it seems to me that maybe her identity became so entwined in her profile image, and she felt I was not supporting her in the way she now saw herself, because I knew a different her, so she just became dissatisfied with me. I would try to understand and apologize for what I was not even sure. Over and over this began to happen until I just didn’t want to talk to her anymore. I feel like I understand more of what happened now.

But certain ideas like simple self preservation for White people - a population in decline at the same time of having historically staggeringly high rates of immigration by high birthrate populations - it's not something you'd ever need to change your mind on. I used to strongly identify as a feminist, and even transgender, but I still did a 180 on that after seeing - for example - feminism is just a collection of unchallenged assumptions by people who think that the supposed sexists are the ones making the assumptions. In reality, it's the egalitarian claims which tend to be the assumptions, which are destroyed when met with critical thinking and studying. In other words, as long as you just care about truth above all, I think you can always change

For example, an alleged feminist neuroscientist made an attempt to rebuttal the evidence of more intelligence in males based on the fact make brains are larger. She laughable pointed out that speem whales - a completely different species with way more nerves in their nervous system and way more muscles - have larger brains than humans despite being less intelligent. I female researcher actually devised a way to count the number of neurons in brains, and found that primates - including humans - have equally dense brains, convert 8 brain density allows us to have 86 billion neurons, which would be impossible if we had the brain density of other species. She discovered we have the most neuron-dense brains measured. This means if you're comparing male human and female human brains, they are equally dance and therefore the larger brain will have even more neurons or more neural connections, which doesn't necessarily mean more intelligence, but it obviously is one factor which boosts intelligence. If size didn't matter, then we would still have brains the size of our primitive hominid ancestors Spelling errors are probably due to me using a small mobile screen.

It's been my observation that celebrities, generally speaking, tend to be deeply dysfunctional people, especially if they become famous young. This was, and is, in large part because their whole identity is dependent on how other people think about them. Now, almost everyone is exposed to the conditions that create this mindset. From a psychological standpoint, it's rather fascinating to watch this unfold. I would argue that getting rid of our devices isn't the answer. That would only reduce our ability to communicate. Rather that we must train ourselves not to define our self-worth by the opinions of others.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that social media is addictive in the way that a controlled substance is. Controlled substances cause physical and chemical alterations to the body that make it impossible to control one's impulses. Social media and the like cause psychological issues with overuse, and those can be mitigated through understanding. I got a cell phone out of a necessity for work but have zero social media profiles. When people ask me why I dont do social media I tell them that my phone is a convenience not an addiction.

You can also say that being away from social media gives you this sort of like super power. I’m able to be a whole lot more present in the moment. And I’m able to read BODY language a whole lot. Here is some examples of certain experiences that I have encountered because. I can see, who’s good who’s bad, who’s nice, who’s an idiot, who’s that, who is trying too hard. Another example. There’s guys my age Gen z trying to be “influencer” well nah you know what here’s what imma do. Instead of judging you how much “likes, followers” imma judge you for the person who you are right now in the moment. Being away from social media is like doing no fap. Being real 💯

Glad to hear from a kindred spirit! I also have never felt a need to engage in social media. I think "smart" phones are the worst thing to happen to humankind in the 21st century. Not because of their potential as useful devices, but because of HOW humans use them. Using them for social fucking media and turning them into phone ZOMIBES that walk the streets with eyes glued to the phone, and ignoring the car about to hit them.

This is why our connection to God needs to be strengthened to the point of being unbreakable. Those in control are able to decide what's acceptable and what isn't acceptable and the majority will conform their identity to those things whether those things are evil or not. The stronger your connection to God, the harder it is for them to make you find sin acceptable and belief in God unacceptable. Crazy times.

Rougly 6 months ago I completely quit all social media. Since then, I have never used social media more than just a few minutes for things like a random reddit post for cooking recipes. Its been life changing. I am glad I quit. I have much more time in the day, less anxiety, and I enjoy solitude more often. Be sure to try and replace the social interaction you had online with real life interaction if you ever quit, it may be online but it still helps connect us. I lost contact with a lot of my old friends because of it, but I realized to a great deal that just HEARING about peoples lives is not the same and them telling you about their lives. It is much more wholesome to have friends who are like minded, who want to hear about you and your life over drinks or during work than through pixels on a screen. Meeting and people social in real life teaches us two things. First thing to be authentic because it is much harder to hide our problems face to face (though not impossible), and also how to listen to others authentic selves. On social media we spend so much time yelling into the world we hardly every take a second to hear what the world is yelling back at us.

I feel like social media really effects my social life in a negative way. I feel as though I am always seeking to communicate with people online (actually trying to be social) and theres no substance to them. I also get left on read or people simply like a message as a way of ending the conversation. We think that we have friends online but they aren't really our friends. We know nothing about them. All the while we are worrying so much about our online social life we are literally avoiding our real in person social life. The people we see face to face are the ones that matter, not the profiles that only exist through a screen.

it’s so refreshing to find pockets of intellectual individuals who are open to new and challenging ideas. Deleting social media has been difficult this first week and a half because i have to find other and healthier ways to occupy my time, but right off the bat, I’ve felt this re balancing of my emotions and I’m somewhat stable. I don’t experience the amazing rush of getting all of the notifications, but i also avoid the downward spiral of emptiness i feel when i don’t get those notifications. It’s a process but I’m learning to untangle my self worth from those cesspools of narcissism we call instagram, facebook, snapchat, tik tok, etc etc. God bless, everyone. I would say that people feel a need to be “seen” by others. Maybe that’s what they’re going for? Getting a social media post “liked” feels like a gain because it’s validating. It’s like a little kid trying to grab the attention of an adult by saying, “Hey, look what I can do! Look at me!” How important is it to be “seen”? And what if one were to go through life and NEVER be seen, or recognized, or known? Social media addiction works by appealing to very deep human desires.

Thank you for another AWESOME video. It is accurate and insightful. The changing nature of the formation of a social identity was absolutely fascinating. As was the concept of being both prisoner and guard. It is rather bone-chilling to witness the blind acceptance of the manipulative qualities of social media by the public. In my life, I have noticed the ostracizing effects of non-participation. I do not maintain an active, or timely, presence on social media. I have never been able to muster up the enthusiasm to participate in it. And, I have zero interest in maintaining a manufactured, manicured, and curated image for consumption. Therefore, I no longer exist to many people I used to know. C'est la vie. Thanks again, guys!

I feel like social media is a matrix that you need to break out of to become self aware. People get sucked into the consumer lifestyle or don’t see that they’re being used for attention and clicks, that they are the product. Instead most just constantly bicker and argue in endless echo chambers. Not realising that the internet is simply and engineering tool that responds to feedback. I do think, however, that the social media bubble will burst somewhat in the coming years once what it is doing to people is fully exposed and the money runs out. I find it incredible that Facebook doesn’t charge three quarters of the globe to use their app and store all the garbage on their servers. The storage space of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram and they’re all free. Nobody asks this question.
