Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan took initial training from his father Ustad Fateh Ali khan and his uncles Ustad Mubarak Ali and Ustad Salamat Ali. His forefathers were all renowned Qawwals and this tradition is continuing in this family for past 700 years. Also he was very open minded and always keen to learn new things. Whenever he used to visit other countries he tried to learn their music and perform raagas that were similar to their music. People in Japan, France and other European countries are huge fans of his music especially classical.

I've been listening to NFAK Saab each night to sleep for the past 15 months since lockdown began. It helps.

Not experiencing UNFAK live in concert is one of my biggest regrets. My friend has pictures of Ustad ji singing in his home when he was in Dallas for a concert, my friend was the organizer. Kaash main apne dost se kucchh saal pehle mila hota😞 Anyways, good to see younger generation rediscovering Ustad ji and appreciating his genius. Keep going!

Hey guys, totally love your reactions to Ustad's qawwalis!! Also, I can understand you find it wrong when the audience throws the money like that. But it is a very old qawwali tradition and was appreciated by UNFAK as well! And now your question about Ustad's guru. So qawwali has been running in his family for hundreds of years. His father was Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, who started training him at a young age but died soon after. Ustad Nusrat's further training was with his uncles, Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan.

Great reaction. You guys have started to feel like family. Keep shining, keep smiling and keep reacting to our beloved Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Other artists have one or two masterpieces in their career but each and every song of Ustad G is a masterpiece. Also whenever he used to perform same song/qawwali there used to be some kind of different variation and twist. So technically all performances of his same songs are also different. Absolute Legend.

Lyallpur ( now called Faisalabad) is the birthplace of Nusrat FAK. There is shrine of his Late Father Ustad FAK. I saw Nusrat when he was very young in 1974/5. The shrine is located on the bank of a small canal which runs outside Rail bazar through to Jhang bazar, Babar cinema and to Jhang Road. On annual urss there was a big qawwali festival every year.

You can very well say that Nusrat Sahab had no formal singing teacher. He belongs to a family that is singing since last 600 years and the talent is transfered from generation to generation. Farrukh Ali Khan is his younger brother and father of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
