Edge work is in reference to the edges of the blades on his skates

Great reaction as always. What gets me about Crosby is how elite he is at literally every aspect of the game: sublime skating, unmatched vision and elite hockey sense that put him a step ahead of everyone else in seeing plays materialize, his finishing ability one-on-one with the goalie. etc.

And he never stops trying to get better. At 36yo, he’s even practicing with a different stick with more curve to help his goal scoring. It’s insane how he’s driven to improve.

I’m not a Pittsburgh fan but holy crap Captain Canada is definitely a dream to watch on the ice, he makes everything look SO EASY. He’s one that people will be watching film of forever. Fun fact he also has the most famous ass in the NHL lol so there’s that 👱🏻‍♀️🤣

This one was good too! Bummer you couldn't get the Puck Protection video downloaded, I do still recommend that one. Thanks for mentioning my request :) Sid is something else on skates. Edgework does refer to the blades of the skates and the balance on them, how low you can get in your turns, etc. Great video, love watching you fall in love with the sport!

When you skate, the friction of the blade in contact with the ice surface will melt the ice under the blade, so you are essentially gliding over water. Each skate blade has a channel cut down the middle to guide the this water behind you, creating two edges which contact the ice. Edgework refers to a player's ability to change between your inside and outside edges of the blades of your skates to change the direction and speed at which you are skating.

Heel to heel is difficult to do well, but it has a really greasy subtlety to it. With your heels together you are less than a half turn on each foot from skating either forward, or backward. Essentially, you skate in the transition between forward and backward, with one edge of one skate skating 'forward', and one edge skating 'backwards'. So no matter what turn you need, it is already half done. Turn your front foot a half turn (change from inside edge to outside edge), you are skating backwards, half turn on the back skate (from inside edge to outside edge), you are skating forward. Keep them where they are (both on inside edge) and pump as needed, and you are open to the play. Few people do it like 87.

Look up what is called the 'toe drag' in hockey. It's a common offensive move with the puck and it's amazing how subtle it is, but ultra-effective.

Loved this reaction my buddy! You should react to Evgeni Malkin, his teammate, and right hand man. In many ways he's arguably better than Crosby from a skill perspective and his highlights are truly unbelievable (However Crosby is far more of an all around talent.) Crosby and Malkin are one of the most special duos in the history of the NHL and have taken the Pittsburgh franchise from near bankruptcy to perennial Stanley Cup contenders! Cheers!

You mention Snooker, I'm a big Ronnie O'Sullivan fan and it's hard to say whose better but having played both hockey and snooker, I kinda have to give it to Ronnie in his prime just because of his domination of his sport. But no doubt no one is slashing at Ronnie with their cue while he's trying to make a shot. So maybe it's a toss-up.

if you turn right your on your outside edge on your right skate and inside edge on your left. the blades have 2 edges with a shallow groove between them

I don't think anyone uses the Mohawk (heel to heel) turn as effectively as Sid. I'd like to know what profile his blades are ground to. Probably a triple or quad radius because he can turn so tight and still has good speed. Anyone know?
