@toddwright662

In our association, abuse of the referee is taken very seriously; by a coach even more so. God help you if you abuse a teenage ref (that you know by definition has limited experience and is likely to make more errors); this generally results in a permanent ban. I say generally as if I'm aware of it happening in the 8 years I've coached, but at the coaches' meeting every preseason, the association states in no uncertain terms that a permanent ban is the result of this behavior.

my older brother was a soccer referee at 14, that was his first job. so many parents would argue with him but he was little and was scared. when he got older he spoke back and took control of situations where coaches were almost gonna fight each other. mind you my brother has played soccer his entire life so he knew what he was doing. he also took a class to make sure he was great. when i turn 14, i’m gonna have to do the same but mind you, i have a little bit of an attitude so with my attitude i’d probably scare the parents and get them to shut up before i cancel the game. mind you, you can do that. i’ve learned so much from my brother and i can’t wait to work. hopefully parents now a days are no longer vicious animals

And the loser walks directly across the field. No shame, no understanding. I own my own club, indoor facility and leagues - in 8 years I have reffed nearly 7000 games, and am ruthlessly strict with parents. I do not use cards.. minor fouls are incidentals (free kick), anything malicious/dangerous is a strike. After 1 strike, the next foul is an automatic goal for the other team and a free kick.. In this span there has not been 1 injury (due to a foul). Ive only had to permanently ban 4 families, and 1 entire team during a tourney. Does it work? There is now a 9 month waiting list (35 pre-paid families) for each and every program from u5 to Mens and womens leagues being held in escrow.. I decided to do it myself.. and now the national program is coming by.. they are actually considering what I am doing..

1. This is a kids game, not the World Cup final. This is where they are having fun and getting a workout. 2. If by some chance there is a referee that is making bad calls, as long as it’s consistent in both ends of the teams then it’s just a coin flip for the decisions, and a review of the arbiter post-match so he can learn from those mistakes. 3. We are human, people make mistakes. If you think you can do a better job, put on the uniform. Otherwise you’re just a spectator with zero say in what goes on the match regarding rules

As a 14 year old ref, while the ref made the right decision to eject the parent, you are supposed to ask the coach to remove the parent and if they or the parent do not comply the coach can get a red or the game can be abandoned. You are never supposed to give a red card to a spectator even if they did deserve it.
@totalsportsstudio
2 ай бұрын
Each league and tournament has their own policies for spectator removals. You are correct that there isn’t a Soccer Law about Red carding a spectator for ejection unless they step foot on the pitch…even then it’s a straight ejection

Because refs have to be developed. Our association opens refereeing up at 13. They generally ref games played by players at least a couple of year younger than they are (just like this game) until they get some experience (and most serve as ARs), but expecting refs to start only once they become adults is unrealistic if you want referees at every game so as not to have to have coaches try to ref. One of the best refs I saw was a "kid" that was maybe 19, and he had the experience to seemingly be in the right position and manage the game of a U19 boys select game because he had been doing it for years already. It was his youth job during the season(s).

Sounds like you have minimal experience refereeing ... dissent is not allowed. Period. Protesting or objecting to the referees decisions is unacceptable. Some is, of course, manageable depending on the refs style and ability. Law 5 says the refs decisions are final. The ref is the judge of his courtroom which is the field. No contempt of court is allowed. Nobody asked the coach or the parents to give their opinion on refs decisions. Their role is only to cheer on their players, never to talk to the ref. The ref was a younger ref ..the Philly keeper was yelling the F word from the net at players and the ref..I was telling the keeper to stop cursing and the center ref just ignored the whole thing..I told the ref at half time that he needs to clamp down on that..he said, "I'll never be invited back if I start cracking down on stuff like that.,.smh..it's a huge problem when the clubs have that much power all because of money
Those kids don't even look 13. Great call by the ref, stop this behavior before it gets worse. It really is a shame when parents think any behavior like this is remotely acceptable. Coach learned a good lesson.
he showed them, walking across the pitch like the hero he is.
The unhinged coach should not coach in any league. Referee was awesome and managed this situation perfectly. The coach, on the other hand was a bad representation for his team. He even trounced across the field after ejection- a sure sign that he respects nothing about this sport.
This video alone is enough to get that coach banned from coaching for multi-season cycles in our association
@toddwright662

What a cheeseburger coach.

my older brother was a soccer referee at 14, that was his first job. so many parents would argue with him but he was little and was scared. when he got older he spoke back and took control of situations where coaches were almost gonna fight each other. mind you my brother has played soccer his entire life so he knew what he was doing. he also took a class to make sure he was great. when i turn 14, i’m gonna have to do the same but mind you, i have a little bit of an attitude so with my attitude i’d probably scare the parents and get them to shut up before i cancel the game. mind you, you can do that. i’ve learned so much from my brother and i can’t wait to work. hopefully parents now a days are no longer vicious animals

Parents and coach are a damn joke.
Yes I remember what happened there I played there for soccer once 🤦

And then he walks across the pitch.
Lead by example and teach your kids that sometimes things don't go the way you want. Learn to deal with adversity.
Parents getting in mob mentality against teenagers is insane..
@totalsportsstudio

That coach never ran a day in his life
Instead of giving the muppet a red card, the ref should give him a ball and he can demonstrate all the skills and techniques that he passes onto his U11 D grade (??) players. Its usually these guys with the biggest mouths that think they're coaching in the big time that are the most inept !!
Great lesson for the kids coach...walking disrespectfully across the field...
The kids look like they are about 9 years old. After being tossed, he had to walk across the field instead of walking around.
i tossed an ex nfl player who was coach from a little league game when i was umpire at 12
Once the man walked through the field & Ref had to stop the game he'd ended the game.
Hey "Coach" - here's a thought: Why don't you give up coaching (since you set a piss poor example for the kids anyway), and put on the stripes since you obviously know so much about being a Ref!!
There is a ref shortage.. I wonder why?
@QemeH
20 күн бұрын
It's not just the parents and coaches. It's the leagues, too. Obviously this isn't universal, but a lot of leagues don't protect their refs by backing up their ejection decisions with bans, so the refs are thrown under the bus constantly.
I see dad brought his soccer dad body to face off with a 16 yr old. Why don't you ref then dad if it's so easy. Way to handle it ref, the league has your back.

Good job to that kid ref. Parents are a joke.
We don’t have the context of the disagreement. The ref may very well have been making bad or one sided calls. Bad officiating, along with bad coaching, are both ruining youth sports.
Bad by the ref. Refs gotta go to the coach before the spectators.

I was a ref as a teen. Job sucked
the ref doesn't know what he's doing ..unless there was more that happened before, that is not a red card ..he also should have pulled the coach aside and had a stern talk with him..when there's an audience, it escalates ..when the coach said he needs to be consistent he should have said "not another word"..then if he continues you can toss him

Is the coach's tone informative and not derogatory, calm and not exasperated?
