Wow, impressive video. Things have certainly changed since the TV series ''Highway Patrol'' aired back in the 1950's. It was based on the California Highway Patrol, and ran from 1955 to 1959.

I thoroughly enjoyed the video and the editing. Need more like this.

Should have filmed Pick-Up Day, Red Man, and the CHP Pool Jump...many good times had there.

@@americanpatriot8281 LOL, wish I had been briefed before I went too, just get ready for a fun ride. I'll give you one hint...stay off the grass. Oh, and if you can afford it, take an EVOC driving course prior to going, most CHP cadets wash out on High Speed.

@@americanpatriot8281 Nope, got rear ended in my personal vehicle on the 405 8 weeks before Graduating, accident messed my back up and I couldn't finish. I was 39 when I was in the Academy, so couldn't re-apply either.

My oldest brother was on the CHP for over 39 years until he retired in 2005. Our dad was on the LAPD for 30 years until he retired in 1977. I have always been so proud of both of them and they have always been my heroes.This was an amazing video!

Have you applied yet? Best tip is to literally do things before hand to be prepared for anything. Stay in shape and do body weight exercises like pull ups and sit-ups. Have copies of all your paper work and always do as many classes to help you out before hand. Go on ride alongs as well.

US Citizenship is no longer required. As long as an applicant can work legally in the US under federal law, they can apply.

I had that issue as well back in 1993. I took the written test and passed, but just could not get past the 20/40 uncorrected vision restriction.

I did as well. I was privileged enough to spend a week here in 1992 in ETC 1-92 and I was on track to be the first CHP Explorer to go to the Academy. Passed written, passed PAT, passed Psych, got TC’d by a deuce and was found 50% at fault. Recommended for hire but HQ said no. This video stirs memories I wish I could have built on. I would have been near retirement today.

@@robbiej3061 It's probably why Commissioner Barrow left, and I was a bit shocked how short Commissioner Stanley's tenure was. Honestly, the CHP is very much built on traditions and while the management has done some officers wrong overall, it's still a proud organization. I plan on volunteering again when I turn 55.

@@RScottPR I worked in Central Los Angeles when Warren Stanley was a patrolman. He made a traffic stop and another driver hit his patrol car. Warren tried to leap over the guardrail at the time of impact but his left leg got pinned between his patrol car and the guardrail. It was my very first officer involved collision investigation. I managed to move Warrens car enough to free his leg. By some miracle Warren was not injured. Lesson learned: If there is a guardrail stand on the side where there is no traffic.

Any update on the 2021 ford explorers? I know yall were fabricating parts for them about two years ago, did the cars end up having too many problems? When can we expect to see them out on the road?

Why switch when you can do both. I was a CHP for 30 years and was trained (3 weeks) EMT at the academy with continued training for several years during my career.
