I mean, the sense of smell and taste are pretty closely related, so it makes sense to call foody scents flavours since the scent evokes the flavour. But they're still separate senses on a technical level.

Rhett set up a false dichotomy. "Food tastes and it has certain flavors; smell scents and it has certain scents"... Food is not analogous to smell. A better analogy is "Food tastes and it has certain flavors; soap smells and it has certain scents." The right word is scent.
