    I lived in the Seattle area over 20 years ago. What you said about the weather, and finding a place to rent, I experienced the same. What was new to me was the parking situation, and how expensive it has become. I 💘 Seattle; it remains my favorite American city. I see it as the perfect place for early retirement, because there are EVER so many outdoor and social activities to do. I had to leave for work reasons 😭💔😭. Who knows, maybe once I no longer have to work, I'll return. I have two additional warnings. The first is for those who want to visit, as well as move to, Seattle. No matter how obvious a location is, ALWAYS ask directions! Seattle has numbered streets crossing numbered streets, and some change numbers and directions. I was told the city was designed by a drunkard. He must have been on one hell of a bender! The second is for those who, like me, suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. In winter, the sun rises at 8am, and sets at 4:15pm. Twilight lasts half an hour. My first winter there, I had an office job with hours from 8:00 - 4:30pm, so the only sun I got was during my 1/2 hour lunch break. The following winter, I worked swing and night shift as a CNA, so that improved things. Going night skiing at one of the many nearby ski resorts provides excellent light therapy, since snow reflects every hint of light. P.S. How is the crime and homeless situation there? I heard Seattle lost 1/4 of its police force.

    So about the weather...I'm from Northern California and thinking of moving up to the Seattle area. Here, it gets dark and stormy in the winter (at least it's supposed to -- that hasn't happened in 2 years lol) and yes, it's depressing. But I've read Seattle gets less rain in the winter than Northern CA does, but more in the spring and fall. So I just don't know if that'll be better or worse than what I'm used to!

  • @lifeofyelly

    @lifeofyelly

    2 жыл бұрын

    I’ve never been to CA, so I don’t even know what all is in the NorCal region, or whatever town/city you stay in currently, but Seattle has lots of pros that outweigh the cons in terms of things to do even on a rainy day. So maybe that’ll make it less depressing for you? Also the rain usually isn’t a heavy downpour, so people still walk where they need to go when it’s raining. I feel like this spring had more rain, but the summers there are a great payoff ☺️

    I'm not sure how easy it is to get a job, because I got my job through a program for newly graduated media students that my company used to have, so they moved me out here. Depending on your degree, it'll determine what sector of jobs you'd likely go for. There's a ton of tech jobs. If you don't have a degree there's still all type of retail/grocery/restaurant jobs that should be easy to get quickly. A lot of people here are transplants. People are constantly coming & going. So, I'm sure if you applied and followed up on your apps you can tell them when you're moving, & some jobs will probably work with you on that since they're used to new people coming. If you have a LinkedIn, I'd try looking there first & applying.

  • @lifeofyelly

    @lifeofyelly

    4 жыл бұрын

    If wherever you stay has a parking garage then you can expect to pay $150-$300 per month. So, that will be an additional cost to your monthly bills. If you stay in a zone area (for example Zone 7 - which will be street parking in a certain area) then it’s like $60 for a 2 year pass. But I’m not sure how many zone’s there are that do that.

    V R I’m a little biased because I really love Houston. Lol But I’ll be fair & say Seattle overall is better, in the sense that you have higher paying jobs, more options of things to do/places to explore, it’s pretty diverse, not only with demographics, but also the environment. I do feel there is a lot more to offer here. A lot of industries thrive here. So depending on what you do, it’s a good place to get a foot in & work your way up & then move somewhere else after.

Lots of of people here will just walk around in a rain coat and no umbrella because the rain is usually not heavy. It rarely thunderstorms in Seattle. And depending on what type of climate you’re used to you might think it’s always cold (minus the summer time) or you might only think the fall/winter is “cold”. To me it’s always cold. • @lifeofyelly

    @lifeofyelly

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jetcitysinatra7300 To be honest, the homelessness/drug use wasn’t a huge problem in terms of my safety. Besides outlier situations, most of the homeless people/druggies do not bother you. They just don’t have anywhere to go or mind their own business. So I never felt in danger walking past anyone. Also, they’re not overly present everywhere. The cost of living is manageable depending on your job I suppose and how much you’re making. I didn’t bring my car to Seattle so that helped cut back on one expense. Also, since it was just me, it was easier to find an affordable studio since I didn’t need a ton of space. Personally, I never experienced any crime & most people that I knew didn’t deal with anything either. I guess it all just depends on maybe where you live or just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I didn’t have any bad/unsafe experiences in Seattle besides creepy men following me. Seattle is a great city & has the same issues as all cities. Hope that helps!

  • @jetcitysinatra7300

    @jetcitysinatra7300

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@lifeofyelly So I guess out of sight out of mind? The reason I am asking is because I am thinking of running for mayor of Seattle in 2025 and I want to clean up Seattle and cut down the rampant crime, homelessness and drug problems. I want to bring down the cost of living and put a curb on people moving to Seattle until there is adequate housing. I want everyone that lives in Seattle to be able to have a good quality of life not just the ones who can afford it . . . There is a ton of low income people ($!2 grand a year) living in Seattle that can't afford to live here or move away from here. If someone moves to Seattle for a job or other reasons besides Seattle becoming their home I think that is the wrong reason to move to Seattle because when the next BIG things comes along they will just up and move and the rest of us get stuck doing the dishes . . .

    I wouldn’t recommend buying a house in the city. Too expensive, no real yard space, very close to neighbors... if you’re going to buy a house I would suggest one of the bordering towns outside of Seattle. Things will be more affordable outside of the city. Overall the housing market is a bit ridiculous for the pricing. Don’t move to Seattle it’s awful. it’s gray and gloomy all the time and housing costs are some of the highest in the country.
