So you want to be an investigative journalist?
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The job of an investigative journalist is often hard work, stressful and requires a huge amount of determination, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.
These journalists play an important role in the upholding of a just democracy - in fact, their investigative work can often be the only way of uncovering information about topics of public interest.
Award-winning BBC reporter John Sweeney explained that determination, skepticism and persistence are crucial skills for those looking to enter the profession.
The most satisfying stories are those that powerful people don't want the public to know about, he said.
Reporting for programmes such as Panorama and Newsnight, Sweeney has traveled undercover to gain unprecedented access to North Korea, confronted Russian president Vladimir Putin over killings in Ukraine and helped free many innocent mothers from jail sentences that convicted them of killing their children.
He told Journalism.co.uk that one of the best things about his job is that he is able to "supply a voice to the voiceless", but explains that the job comes with a range of moral responsibilities that one must adhere to, in order to prevent exposing the wrong people or "getting into trouble".

i personally think journalists should earn more money than they already do.

I've spent many years writing for little papers here in the Bay Area. I would of started sooner but it took years to amass enough background knowledge of the area it's people, history and contacts to be able to write with some authority. Only to find that most of these hacks, just make stuff up.

Unfortunately most are fake government shills these days
I adore this man. He is a huge source of both inspiration and information. I'd be honored to 'shadow' him for a month as a class project. The quote, : "I don't mind being in hot water, it's not a bad thing, hot water keeps you clean" is sheer brilliance!
I love how he said "you have to edit that [out]" and they didn't.
Doggedness, the ability to drink with anyone and a sense of humor !
As an aspiring investigative journalist in Africa, Nigeria this was very insightful

Doggedness... and a capacity to what? DRINK a Russian police officer? are they doing a drinking game under the table?

To drink under the table. It essentially means being able to tolerate alcohol better than the other person.
As long as you stick with the politically correct investigation and approved subjects, please investigate all you want. Most journalists are cowards and more interested in pats on the back from their peers.

Yeah,if you're friends with politicians or advocating along with what a government said then you're doing it wrong and most likely just a government mouthpiece who's only kidding themselves.
But he messed up bigtime when he tried to do a hit piece on Tommy Robinson and was exposed.
