To me the Yamaha R7 is my dream bike. Not only is it a good beginner sports bike, but also a more Street Friendly sports bike. And it nails the aesthetics of my ideal looking sports bike

@@wetwea33 depends on what you use it for. I’d take a 600 or even 1000 where I live than a 650 type of bike any day.

Thanks for using my exhaust clip for the Mt07! One of my favourite sounding bikes and excited to try out the r7 one day. It’s not going to replace the speed of my r6 but there have been times where I wish my Mt07 was a full fairing bike and that’s exactly where the r7 comes in.

Same, and I tuned my R3 as much as I could. Making 43RWHP, it’s fun, I do a lot of group rides with 600 riders. The R7 with similar upgrades will be perfect. That 270 crank sounds good too.

Got my R7, and it is perfect for me where I live. New England roads are twisty and narrow, so power/weight are spot on. Excellent on highway as well, way more stable than the 3. Perfect for morning commute on backroads.

I was considering buying either the R7 or the RS660. What ultimately led me to buy the RS660 was all of the “pointless tech” Noob here describes. A lot of this tech makes for a safer riding experience and gives the end user more control of their bike based off what they want to use it for. That’s not a bad thing FYI.

I had to go with the mt07 but as a begginer i would preffer a more powerfull bike with that tech, its way safer, even the mt09 is safer than mt07

Yes Yammie, please do a R7 vs Honda CBR 650R comparison! I wish Yamaha had made it a bit cheaper, because as cool as the R7 is, if I'm buying a brand new bike, I'd rather drop another $1,000 and get a ZX-6R. But that's just me.

Another vote for the Honda 650R vs R7 video. Preferably with the CBR if you can find one because the ergos are more comparable and compete more directly.

I looked all over Northern California trying to find an R7, couldn't find one anywhere. But landed a CBR 650R at SF Moto and I'm happy as hell with it. First bike, and it's super manageable. Not everyone's the same and I get that but not sure why you shut the CBR down completely as a solid beginner bike.

I had a CBR650F and now I have a 2018 CBR1000RR. I put on the 650F around 12,000 miles and the bike could be ride by a new rider but is better for someone with more experience since the bike has more power and torque. The two bikes that I am considering for my next addition to my garage are the 650R and the CB1000R. Both are amazing bikes that you can ride for hours. My CBR 1000RR is fun but after 1 hour you are in pain ( I got used to her)

I'm really curious about how it compares to the XSR700, though. Does the XSR700 you had suffer from the same issues you described on the MT07? Asking as a very-happy XSR owner who's never ridden a MT-07.

R7 being more aggressive ergonomics than Rs660 is the deal breaker to me! Rs gets uncomfortable after couple of hours but it handles like a dream glad i didn't go for the mt07 but i do wonder how a mt07 with proper suspension would feel that engine is awesome!!!!!

Hi, ive been working more than 10 years allways focusing on buying my first bike, i wanted to buy the rs660 too, but the price was above my possibilities, so i had to go with mt07 before prices go up this year (Portugal), im loving the bike in blue year 22, it has a good torque, but in 3 years i wanna go with rs660 unless theres something new on the market. RS660 looks so sexy like a supersports with better argonomics and that quickshift up and down must be so good. Ride safe!

@@cartuxo999 Mt07 is a sweet bike when you can you need to add the quick shifter and fix the suspension ( cartridge kit) if you can't afford that watch dave moss tunning channel he has a video for a cheap fix. After that you might want to upgrade the brake pads and maybe steel braided lines because brakes on the 07 are not the best. After doing those upgrades you might even lose the desire to upgrade.

The R7 looks so appealing, but I'm set in getting the bmw 850gs for my first bike 🤗

In Australia we have a thing called LAMS, which means we have a 655cc and a 689cc MT07 and the R7 will be the same when it gets here. Coming from an R3, I'll be waiting until my open licence so I can get the high output 689cc R7

Great comparison but the Ninja was sporting a Yoshimura exhaust and the MT07 an Akrapovic. I get the difference between the 180 degree crank of the Ninja and the 270 on the R7 but a better comparison would be with stock exhaust. I really love both bikes but I'm a Kawi simp at heart.

Cbr650r 2021 owner. Lovely bike. I do over 600km a week on it (280km straight twice a week plus a few hour long rides) and no backache or wrist pain. One thing to note, I'm a 164cm tall woman and can flat foot 1 foot or tip toe both feet. I can't tip toe both feet on my friend's r6, not sure if the r7 is lower...

Currently looking at picking up a bike and was contemplating between the ninja 650 and r7. I like both but once i heard that familiar low end grunt of the yamahas which ive always been a fan of especially in the R1's i knew it was a done deal and i dont mind spending the extra dollar to get a great looking bike and something more of what i wanted. I'll come back to this post when i've got the bike and give an update :)

Do you feel that you would’ve learned quicker if you would’ve started on a smaller CC bike? Do you feel like the R7 has too much power? Im only asking cause I’m a beginner and debating on a CF MOTO 450ss or an R7 for a first bike

Here to make the case for the Ninja 650. You can get them dirt cheap because the R7 makes them outdated. I just bought my ninja and after dealer fees and taxes paid just over 7,000. And that’s in Missouri where you pay almost 10% of the bike cost for the tags instead of a flat rate. Also my back is fucked from military service so the upright position is great. With an R7 your going to pay the msrp if not more with how sought after it is. Furthermore, someone with back problems would have to then price out handlebars or risers etc. The ninja makes sense for a certain buyer (cheapskates) and if this sounds like you, buy the ninja, you won’t regret it.

That's what I thought on something similar such as the F4i 600cc or maybe the yamaha thundercat. Pretty outdated but these two are the era of greatness in both sport and comfort.

I agree. I would love the r7 if it came with risers and bars instead of clip-ons.

I think THIS is the bike for me! I've been on an R6 a few times and I LOVED it! But it never felt right my 5'3" 130lbs self. I've not sat on an R7 but it already looks ergonomically correct for me! And to think I was going to settle for a cruiser soon! SMH

The Kawa parallel twin sounds like a small old diesel generator that we had on our fishing vessel.

It would be fun I think, if Suzuki would make the SV670 into a sports bike just like what Yamaha did to the MT-07.

I'd pick an Aprilia 660 all day long, but it's also about 10.5 g's. Some people dog on the few cheap parts of the Yamahas, but you can't argue the price....that much.

Lol in the presented soundchecks the ninja kind of sounded better but I've heard mt07s and can confirm they sound pretty rad

It bewilders me that the same company that made that chuggachugga 650 twin also made that heavenly sounding 900cc I4 and wrapped it in gorgeous cafe racer body lines.

Finally an comparising with the cbr650r, in Sweden they will cost almost the same (R7 is actually 200 dollar more expensive) Don´t know what to pick yet tho, currently have mt07 The cbr has the motor and sound but the r7 got the looks

If u treat bike as a daily rider i would go with CBR650R, it's tech and the way it makes power can save U during the rain and more relaxed position is wrist saving if u ride a lot :). Yamaha R7 torque is a lot of fun tho + very light compared to honda. Same thing in Poland with pricing.

Cbr's full potential is in the top end and sounds great towards the top-end , but that CP2 motor is ON anytime, " twist the throttle and have fun ", it sounds naughty too and of course that cp2 is a magic

In Germany the R7 is more expensive than a CBR650R and barely 1k cheaper than the RS660. Its 2.3k more than the MT07 and Ninja 650.

Hey Marcus, out of curiosity exactly how much of a beginner is she? I've done alot of research and I'm interested in getting the R7 as my first bike. The most I've ridden was a 1 gear scooter and that's it. I drive a manual but I know it's completely different from a bike. Just debating on pulling the trigger on it. I do have good self restraint and respect for high hp vehicles.

I’m curious on how it compares to the SV650X. Lot of people are saying CB650R. But that’s a standard that happens to have an I4. The 650X has ergonomics similar to this but another 10k rpm V twin pushing more similar power and torque.

Ive been looking at a ninja400 for a first dedicated track bike since i can ring it out without fear, OR going for a zx6r but im 6'3" so i was leaning toward 600. I honestly keep forgetting this bike exists and am now wondering if its worth saving a bit of money and sticking to lower power? Or shell out for a bike that i'll eventually grow into

This would be my second bike, that's if I do end up getting one. I'm looking at getting a sport bike next year to scratch an itch 🤷‍♂️

I sat on an R7 at MotoGP this weekend. It's aggressive, not going to be fun all day. I've ridden the RS660 and it's more comfortable with higher clip ons but still aggressive enough to track.

I did the exact thing this weekend. Absolutely loved.

It's an absolutely beautiful motorcycle. Altho it's price range is a no-no for most countries in the world.

i would love the triple r as a track bike to really get experience on the track. and the r7 as a daily rider. then my 200 for practicing stunting. then eventually getting a touring bike for going on long trips. a cruiser for when i feel like laying back. and a dirt bike to just rip and jump

Why stop there?

I tried this both on the street and on the track and I will say this is a fun bike on a track, but it sucks on the normal roads with stop and go traffic.

these companies need to make all the dashes on the bikes typical antilog style dash with the sweeping needle we all like, but then have the ability if you dont like it and want a tft or whatever those new computer screens called. IMO that would make me like other bikes wayyyyy more!

I really like the Yamaha a lot more than I was expecting, if I had the opportunity to get one I definitely would do so!

What did you like about it?

I, for one, would love to see a CB650 vs. R7 comparison, especially since I'm (hopefully) buying a CB650 on Saturday. I was seriously considering the R7 originally, but the looks of the CB can't be beat IMO. Not to mention the ergonomics.
