Appears to be using SB29SDAC tweeter (~$50), SB16PFCR25-8 woofer (~$36) and SB16PFCR-00 passive radiator (~$26). Total drivers cost is around $110 per unit. Excellent vertical dispersion for a non-coaxial 2-way and easy 8 ohm load. Appears to have decent sensitivity as well since there's no resistor on the woofer circuit. "It is the perceived sound quality that matters not the measured quality - unless that measurement has been scaled and correlated to subjective perception through valid psychoacoustic tests." Earl Geddes

I bought a set of these speakers in April 2024. They are small and look good….but they didn’t sound nearly as good as they measured. I used a Marantz 250 and Marantz 140 with them…and the sound was nearly inaudible and muffled at lower volume. The high frequency drivers sounded distorted at times. You have to turn them up to hear them (which isn’t what I wanted…I wanted an efficient speaker system that sounded good at lower volume). I returned the speakers after just one week, and for my trouble and my expense of $200, Ty kept 20% of the purchase price for a “restocking” fee - which I knew nothing about (ouch!! - that’s just mean!). You had better really want these speakers - because after you buy them they are pretty tough to unload. Tyler Acoustics has a no return policy (after a brief introduction with a restocking fee) and there are a bunch of preowned ones for sale online with no prospective buyers.

Yes. I love the sb A.drivers. The specs on most drivers are great. Have my built with a ring radiator tweeter and morel bass. Tweeter on top in a round oak piece. And a v shaped box. Plays very smooth and goes down low. Want to build the next one with 2 5” drivers and a tweeter in the middle. All sp.A. Drivers. Nice to see this speaker being well made.

I have followed Tyler Acoustics speakers for several years, before breaking down and upgrading my speakers, started small with a used set of Linbrook signature monitors. These alone, renewed my love and passion for listening to music. I have since dealt directly with Ty and have commissioned several Tyler Acoustics products, directly through him. He is knowledgeable, easy to deal with and goes well beyond the call of duty, to meet your audio needs. I have some of his Halo line, and it pairs very well with my vintage Receivers and Amps, for my classic rock listening. My overall favorite are the Linbrook line, I fell in love with the signature monitors and then upgraded to larger Linbrooks. The materials, cabinetry, finishes, drivers(Seas and Scanspeak), and electronic components are as good as anything used. I can't say enough good things regarding Ty, and his commitment to helping people, meet their musical listening needs.

Nicely finished boxes, drivers are OK, easy to work with. Did exactly the same configuration with slopped baffle curved edges and offset tweeter some 5yrs ago, but with 17NRXC/NAC series which requires some complicated crossover design. Even the bass tuning is around the same frequencies.

Those are cool. I like the offset tweeters and sloped baffles. I tend to think speakers sound better when tweeters don’t reach your ears first. Rear terminals aren’t a plastic cup. No sound in the midrange resonating out a port. The beautiful cabinetry is icing on the cake.

I take his word on the quality of the internal components. The purchasing experience with Ty himself was equally good and followed by on time delivery. They sound terrific: Clear across the range of frequencies and volumes, excellent detail and imaging, surprising bass. They can fill a large room with very convincing and pleasing sound.

Pretty wild! I just put together a set of speakers with SB acoustics woofers and tweeters. Just in the midst of tweaking the crossovers using Janzen coils, poly caps and Mills resistors. My woofers look to be the same as what's in the tyler's. Mine are a 6" #SB17NRX2C35-8 (8 Ohm) the tweeters are a little different than the tyler's. 1" dome #SB26ST-C000-5 (5 Ohm). You're certainly right about the woofer. Very nice and plays down quite low, no problem. Maybe when I'm done, I'll send one down for you to "Critique". I've been in contact with one of your techs, Ray Hobbs, and he's been helping me out with crossover tweaks. Great tech support from you guys! • @DodgyBrothersEngineering

from which edge? I am just drawing up some new speaker boxes now and was contemplating this. If I do .618, 1, 1.618 from the edge of the box, the ratio to the centre of the tweeter will alter if I roll the edge of the box... Because each of the radii will be the same, effecting the distance and therefore the ratio. I am thinking the ratio would need to be applied to edge on the front face before the radius. I.E if using a 25mm round over bit, start the measurement from 25mm in from all three sides.

I can definitly vouch for Tyler Acoustics, they are simply excellent, the cabinets as mentioned in this video is world class, having tried dynaudio, b&w, tannoy, atc, the enclosure of Tyler are rock solid, inert. closest to it was atc scm19 but still far, you can tell Tyler's build is much stronger and better overall. and the sound comes out effortlessly aswell. These are no b.s. speakers, straight to the point and performance > marketing. Im glad they are going to start doing small bookshelves!

@@dripslobber Hi Randy, well first, the knock test can tell you alot, and how heavy a cabinet is for its size.. the more your knock sounds dead like knocking on cement, the more inert, the better, naturally. Its not rocket science, and frankly im suprised why we dont see this level of construction with mass produced speakers, dont get me wrong, pretty much all companies high end line up have amazing cabinets, but you will pay lot of money obviously.. its not all that complicated nor hard to do, perhaps its a way to seperate the "line-ups" of product to create different classes.. also, having built many subwoofer enclosures, i can tell you that while music is playin, if your enclosure isnt inert, you will hear the box resonance aswell as the speakers, that is the beauty of a proper enclosure, you really listening to the drivers only and the enclosure doesnt color anything(of course all enclosure will have resonance, just ALOT less when its proper), not to get into details, the main goal of enclosure is to contain the driver's pressure to get the most out of it with proper volume for said driver, and port tuning depending what kind of sound you want to get.. over time you can tell when the enclosure is in the way by hearing the speakers.. often referred as "boxy" sounding

Well got off the phone with the owner at Tyler Acoustics and he sounds honest and forthright about the speakers. He sounds as someone who loves what he does and its' not just a business but a passion. As to the speakers, he thinks they sound nice especially for the price and admits he can build better with more expensive parts and at higher prices but that goes for every other high end manufacturer and their products as well. Those beautiful veneers, cabinets, labor all add to the cost as well. But lets not beat about the bush and address the elephant in the room. They are going to want to be compared to other speakers between 2 to 4 grand and how they hold up, especially the new Buchardts. Like anyone, I would be interested in how well they soundstage, especially depth, etc. As to look and finishing, the veneers are very attractive. If they compete well against the Buchardts, I'd spend a bit more for these with those gorgeous veneers.

Big lesson to me... not to buy big speakers unheard. This is not such a problem with small speakers, as they can more easily be returned. But not large speakers. I ended up reselling them as used about 6 months later, at a loss of about $2000..... ouch! When Danny rapped the side of that speaker..... sounded pretty hollow to me. Very nice, have you, or if not, can you do a feature on stands for monitor speakers? This can be a minefield as very often coordinating stands from manufacturers don't always bring the best out of a monitor. Plus there are open frame designs, high mass etc that each affect the performance. Buddy of mine in England did a whole work study on materials and what makes a great stand, he came up with the iF Designs range. Originally he did this for the LS3/5a but developed stands specifically for other models. When I was the UK distributor for Von Schweikert he built me a stand for the VR-1 monitors which was pretty epic (the stand VSA provided for the VR-1 was dreadful, I refused to carry it in the UK).

My oppion, subs tend to get muddy above 60hz some can go to 80hz but I like to stay around 60hz ill also use my midbass at 60hz and up tweeters at 5k hz now I dont know if he would agree with this but if you play a speaker to its limits it starts to fall apart. So keeping it in its tolerances with a 18 db crossover helps support it better in my own oppion. This is what I did in car audio and ive set up some dam nice sounding car systems doing it. At home my 12" sub in in a back conner firing at the wall its set at 60hz and not very loud its tight at this leval blends good with my tower speakers. Becuse bass is omni directional it dosnt need to fire at you, I think it almost always sounds better reflected off somthing hard. You've got to use your ears to find what sounds good to you, I cant do that for you. My ears are different then yours. My life experiences have been different my age is different my ears have been subject to different sounds over the years. Its what sounds good to you. Anybody that tells you this is the best sound is feeding you bullshit. And ill tell any speaker engineer that The graphs and parameters dont really mean shit its what you hear. Just use them as a starting point. My crossover point is a good starting point for you to try, its what I know, you be the judge.

I assume you know of Thonas and Stereo. Oh, you will also be impressed with his Cabinet CnC 7/8 Bamboo with gasketsing along with Dyna Audio Speakers. The only thing you might not care for are the press on cables. If I buy a pair I will soldier mine. I would be very interested in the Spectural exam.

(I can't speak for Danny, however) The PR only needs a few inches clearance. The real challenge is avoiding SBIR cancelations while achieving great soundstage. - Without sub support, ideally they need to be within 2' of the wall. - With sub support, ideally they'll perform best no closer than 4' off the wall. All that supposes little to no acoustic treatment.

Question as a pair do both boxes come with the tweeter shifted to the right, or is there a right and left shifted tweeter? The reason for the question is time alignments and with of sound stage would change by the off axis tweeter. I ask this becuse years of doing cars audio systems you learn cars have a sweet spot for tweeters and they are all different, also the futher you get them away from your ears the better they can sound, placement even with cheap speakers can give you better sounding outcomes. Just like distance from the listener in a room and the speaker and roo. Shape as well as distance from reflection walls or back walls. A poorly laid out room can kill the sound or make it. This "any speaker" can sound different in x amout of different rooms. Its not just the speaker you hear The room shape and size has a lot to do with it. Then the last most important key element the listeners ears.

I have a 14x16 room and will likely never put these through their paces, but I love good tight bass. Is adding a sub critical, then? And iff adding a sub, what would you recommend in the sub $1,200 range? Thanks for all you do.
