Were the little character doodles helpful??? I realized that not only newer viewers have no idea who most of my characters are, but even returnind viewers might not know all of them because of how many I have. Let me know what you think, and maybe they'll return in future videos!

When it comes to the fact that nothing is original anymore, I just embrace it. Like Oliver said, as long as you do what you want, you'll have fun, and not even worry about originality. And look at every single disney princess movie, they are all based off of a fairtale, in some way. Nobody ever gets onto them about originality, they worked hard to produce those films, and they were great for the time! Tropes and cliches are nothing more than categorizing stuff from any story that seems to feature that element. They take stories that may have nothing in common and lump them together because of some shared element. So I just wouldn't worry about falling under any sort of trope or cliche, maybe some of them are necessary for a story. And also, as long as it's *you* who makes *your story*, it *will* be original, in some shape or form. The characters are most likely going to be *all original*, and the settings, the plot, *everything will be original*!

About the original story thing. I have a story that I have recently come up with at it has taken over my life. I have a dream of Turing this story (and others) into comics, graphic novels, or whatever. But I feel like my story is really similar to a very very popular anime. It doesn’t really bother me too much because I have just started and I know I have a long while before I even begin to actually make a comic, but I definitely is something that sticks in the back of my head and I have a bad habit of comparing my story to that anime. Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. It really helped. 😗✌️

20:48 So I'll admit, there aren't that many people on my life who give enough of a shit to hear me ramble about a concept I came up with at one in the morning to help development- but my little brother is one of the few people who will sit there and give genuine interest to whatever oddball story I throw out there. I personally feel like having someone like him around is invaluable to the story making process- as rambling and attempting to explain your story makes you realize flaws, understand how your story should be told better- and for some, come up with random inspiration. Get yourself some sad sucker who's legally obligated to sit there and listen to a random story you got motivation for at one in the morning and decided to develop on instead of sleeping.

My main story has 100+ characters with a core 5. They’re my space orphans and I love them. It’s very much based on mythology especially Greek/Roman mythology but it honestly draws inspiration from everywhere even if that means some planets got noped out of existence along the way or renamed. I’m at maybe 50 chapters but hey, it’s worth it. I love working on it so much. All my other stories are smaller more centralized stories which are a nice contrast by comparison.

In my opinion, the hardest part of making a story is the worldbuilding. It's hard, because half the time it takes a long while to even make a good, loose world, and the other half of the time you get so involved with fleshing out details, and get stuck only making the world. But it is also, arguably, one of the funnest steps of the story-making process. And also furry me over here, who prefers non-human characters and non-earth settings, and is spending too long making a fluffy dragon world. But it is worth it, and helps fit in with the story that's gonna be told there.

I like what you said about "Nothing is original", because- not sure if I mentioned this- but for my own story involving the magic system you mentioned corruption and how their magic can turn them more animal/creature than human. I had the same idea on magic corruption turning them into monsters. Which while I was thinking "damn!" it did make me think more "okay how can I take this concept and make it mine rather than just someone else's idea" I'm still working on my story, and nothing is perfectly set in place, and I might change the magic system more down the line. But thinking about making it completely original would drain you just as much as trying to force a story idea out. I also like to remind myself 50 Shades of Grey exists and it was a Twilight fanfic at the start

Writing was a coping mechanism for me throughout my middle school years, it was a way for me to escape reality and for me to explore my creativity without even thinking about it. So now I'm worried that I might accidentally give it up. I'm questioning whether I can continue writing good ideas for stories. But I shouldn't be worried since I have the layout of a story my drama teacher provided me with: picture a triangle / piramid, the start is the rising in action, what your story does to reach the climax which is the top, then the falling action where the story starts to conclude itself or where the start of a new piramid starts. This teacher would ask what the problem of the story was, who the players are and where it would be set. That's the way I'd plan my stories. This is just something that happens all the time, me asking myself if I'll actually write something that I think is lovable which usually ends up cringy. Me questioning my future in writing.

Basically, create your story first and then fit your characters into the story if you're like me who is mostly art then write. It'll make things make a lot more sense and give you more satisfying results.

Okay I just have to say, I love your art style. Your designs and posing are great even with the flat colors, and the way you shade makes it look... gemlike. I will stop myself from writing an entire paragraph about why I love your style, but I just wanted to let you know I love your unique style and shading.

I also recommend reading “Save the cat!” Book because that book is really helpful too and teaches us writers how to go really in depth on characters and genres etc. Reading books are so fun in coming up with ideas. 💛✨ Again amazing video!

Hey! Just started watching this channel's videos and I love what I'm seeing. I just wanna say that a great exercise for writing is D&D. While to some people the mechanics may be overwhelming, once you get in the swing of it D&D can be a great way to test out story elements and practice things like pacing, character relationships, worldbuilding, etc. I've had a hard time trying to create things like comics or novels because of how intimidating it feels, but D&D has allowed me to have that outlet without the stress. I think it can be a great tool for writers :)

My characters evil outside represents how much power i want to have in the world, but the child soul inside represents part of me that is still innocent and more caring for others. Itherwise me and my character have evil thoughts.. only my character gets to do those evil things..

i have a love/hate relationship with coming up with ideas because it can be so inconsistent for me for example, i recently came up with an entire three season/book/whatever-else-you-wanna-call-it comic in one day just because i randomly was listening to i'll make a man out of you from mulan while i've also spent the last 4 years fleshing out a singular character in a singular story fun fact: that character was originally a fairy tail oc :)

It’s kind of weird. I don’t do art, I write. And for some reason I’m more involved in the personality and don’t exactly think of what they look like since my characters look pretty normal. Like if you picked out a random person on the street, that’s probably what my characters look like since most of my stories are based in realism mostly in the 70’s 90’s or even the 50’s to early 60’s and something around that time.

This video was very helpful since I've really struggled with making stories. for me the hardest part of starting a story has been perfectionism. ill start writing something, read it over and cringe cause it just seems so bad. I've even deleted plenty of story snippets and notes because I didn't want to risk anyone ever reading them cause I thought they were too cliche or silly or the characters were too flat. I usually just end up daydreaming about different concepts and ideas without writing them down or putting them together in a story. But maybe I should just do it and write something. Even if it's cliche or poorly written at least it'll be something and I can learn from what I did wrong the first time so I can improve. I guess I just need to have more patience with myself and my stories. I found the very first story I ever attempted to write recently, It's pretty bad and I never finished it, but I wrote it when I was probably 9 or 10 so it makes sense it wouldn't be very good. I'm glad I kept it though. Even it's cringe it's still important to me and I plan on working on it and actually finishing it at some point. This video really encourages me to keep trying and not be so hard on myself, making stories takes time and patience, you just gotta do it, if you enjoy the story your making there's a good chance that there will be others who enjoy it too.

I would like to add two more reasons as to why someone should make a story: 1. A way to vent Oliver has made most of his characters in his high school. An example would be his character Andy. Oliver put his experiences and knowledge and emotions into making the character. But as Oliver has grown older, he no longer felt as connected to the character, hence the new change in development. Andy was a way for him to be able to get through High School, along with the world built with Andy. Now that Oliver is older, Andy needs to fit the new experienceses of thier creator! 2. Tell a story about an experience to others in a simple way This approach relies a lot more in the entertainment industy. Personally I have a story that is about eating disorder, eating habits, eating tradions, ect. All about food, to put in simple. This story tells about my struggle with food and the effects it cause on my health. Each of the main character hold a part of my struggle, and as I tell each characters stories, people get a better idea of my own experienceses. Another example would be the Song of the Sea. The director idea came when he realized that todays generation doesnt acknowledge past fairytales and take into consideration its lessons, and thus these stories are being lost. It also tells about a family who each struggle differently holding greif with the loss of the same loved one. This movie helped create a modern take on these fairytales as well as show the journey through grief. I hope this helps anyone

Now my mind spaces out really fast when I start thinking about home stuff like groceries and dinner and cleaning so I just fly away in daydreams when I think of the stories I am working on. So small storytime here- I have had a group of oc's that I have wrote about a lot with my friends. It was a good story at first but I slowly lost interest. It just felt bad and not me I guess. I didn't feel any connection with the characters anymore and I really really wanted to scrap it. But my problem was that I had worked on it so hard. I had wrote down, lore, character design, around 8 long chapters and I had also shared it with my friends and they loved it. So I kept at it and kept writing and working until I had a creative burnout. I physically and mentally felt just tired even from thinking about it. Then I stumbled upon one of your videos were you said you were scraping a few of your oc's stories and it was like someone turned on a light in my brain. It was absolutely ok for me to not continue a story that I disliked. I did at first try to rework their stories with a different story but it didn't really work and I just decided to say bye bye . Anyways, this is me around 2 weeks later after all of that and looking up things to help with my new oc's and I find you again ! Yay !!! So there's literally no point to this but thank you a lot for telling me something I needed to hear (it think I would have had a full burnout if I hadn't stopped myself) so yeah. Thanks ❤️

Also a reason to make a story is to help with your emotions. It helps me with my sadness and anger. I let those emotions out of my characters. An example is that when I’m angry I think about my characters being angry and letting it out. Most of the times their destroying stuff. And if I’m sad I’ll think about my characters being sad and being comforted by another character. Or I’ll just think about my story. It’s very comforting :>

A tip i have that a lot of people hate is that as early as possible think about and come up with the end and or end goal. The sooner you do this the easier it is to build up a story, because you know what you’re working for. This is not to say you cant change the end, of course you can, but so many times ive had stories with characters i built up and worlds i created and i kept adding without knowing where it was going the current story of mine i came up with the end of it within a week and its currently the longest running story ive worked on.
