“Walking the Cow” made me pull off the road and cry halfway through the first time I heard it.

The whole song is heart wrenching but the "the best things in life are truly free, singing birds and laughing bees, 'you got me wrong' says he, 'the sun don't shine in your tv'" absolutely DESTROYS me every time I hear it

I think he only had like one album that was with a label and it failed. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually wanted it to.

I wouldn't recommend "Hi How Are You" as a first listen for Daniel's music as it's really inaccessible. I'd recommend the album "Fun" as a good first listen to get into his music

Sure, hi how are you is a great album by all means, but the album only works as a whole, if you take a song out you’re basically ripping a chapter out of the album, and this album seems like something you’ve gotta make your way to, I’d suggest songs of pain as a first when it comes to Johnston’s albums, not only is it his first album, but it also sets the stories for the rest of his songs that Daniel grieves about for the rest of his life, also he’s got so many great and underrated songs, I feel like songs like True love will find you in the end and The story of an artist cast the rest of his great songs in their shadows, but overall Daniel Johnston is an amazing artist in every sense of the word!

I completely agree that Hi, How Are You is an album you need to listen to from front to back. I was just highlighting some of the album’s best moments. Songs of Pain is a great choice to start off with as well. I was thinking of picking that instead of Yip/Jump Music. And to your point of there being better songs than True Love and Story of An Artist, I do agree. But I find those songs some of the easiest ones to start with. His discography is so expansive and wonderful, it’s tough to just pick a handful of albums and tracks lol. Thanks for the reply! Appreciate the thought :)

Great vid presence and vid, but it’s my first of yours cuz I’m a huge DJ fan. I got two concerns…. 1. You say “Hi, How Are You?” Is his Fifth release of 1983, not true; if it is, prey tell the other Four. 2. Just wanna say that a chord organ ALSO plays individual notes as well as the ‘push-button’ chords. Thanks for spreading the message of Daniel’s amazing melodic, soulful work.
