    I see! I do think the “YG sound” is still very influential and probably spans across their other producers. I’m hoping we can get new sounds out of them in the future!

    @@AljudeGarcia They already show a varied sound. But the problem is people only focus in 'title track' thingy. Which seems weird to me. because in the end people will hear songs they like, regardless of whether it's the title track or not.

    @@AljudeGarcia Without Teddy, YG and other original producers still produce the song vibe in the same direction, they named it YG DNA. This YG DNA was carried on for many years and through out many YG's artists, and Blackpink is one of those. So, OG YG stan listen to Babymonster's "Batter up" & "Sheesh" and said it's YG style or sound, but not much emphasis refering to Blackpink sound. These songs could have been refering to many senior YG groups Bigbang, 2NE1, iKon, Treasure, Blackpink or all of them. New sound of Babymonster already portrays in all b-side tracks in their first mini album, and "Stuck in the middle" (6 members ver.) also has MV which you should check out. YG has recruited lots of song writers and producers for their music making this year, prepare for all come back of BP, Treasure, and also BM. This can ensure how variety of music under YG DNA concept will be release in the future, and with IDENTITY of each group, too.

    @@4kkoc186 Which is exactly why I reacted to ‘Like That’ here as well as their other b-sides in my own time! Obviously title tracks are gonna be the most promoted songs with groups and the ones the general public will associate with them. It’s why I prefer hearing different sounds in title tracks as well since it just seems more beneficial for groups in attracting new fans, even if I myself listen to b-sides of groups as well.

    @@AljudeGarcia Yes, the title track will be promoted more and used to attract the attention of the general public. Which makes sense for them to continuously include YG sounds in it. Because the general public is not only kpop fans, but also people who know nothing about kpop, what YG is, what Blackpink is, etc. It made sense to introduce YG's sound to a new audience, through their title track. But for me this album is more like an introduction, so I can understand what they are trying to show. And of course I also hope that there will be more surprises in the next albums.

    Watch the Making of Sheesh. Very organic process. The production team tuned the girls by getting the girls to sing again and again to get the sound they want. The production is Choice37, Robin Cho and YG himself wrote the last part 100%. That last part is great. Kill you? Not really but don't expect Baemons to subscribe to your channel. 200 million views in 34 days. Successful video. The YG formula works. Blackpink? Nope no Blackpink here. YG songs are meant for live concerts. The last part gets the crowd cheering. It works. Watch Inkigayo live band and hand held mics. The girls sound like they ate the CD. They are the CD on their mv due to the raw live organic tuning by the producers.

    Thing is, YG sound is going to be a YG sound they are the only company who managed to remain true to their DNA and thats YG DNA. Kpop today is somewhat almost all similar specially the new gen. But YG remain on its blood do i 100% like it no but i know when it come to live stage all the song's that YG artist have is going to hit hard cuz YG title track is made for a live performance. Saying that sheesh is a very YG song its good for a YG fans, but like you like that is more being played for me and for the other song is not a Skip but I won't personally play them always. Its all depends on preference really and majority knows they are talented and people for sure know they will someday do something deferent that people can say yup this is it. And im here for the ride.

He wrote the rap line's lyrics for the girls, same with Batter Up on Ruka's part. If you watch carefully, you will see a glimpse of him in the recording studio around 15-ish timestamp.

    They actually tried to show all of the girls talents in SHEESH. There is a YG Entertainment video of the production of SHEESH from a producers perspective which was CHOICE37. If you want to react to the video then I am not going to spoil it but even if you just watch it on your own time all I can say is that they probably made the best choices for the song. You'll see what I mean when you watch it. They actually have more member that can rap but they haven't been able to really show it and there isn't a main vocalist. I am a Rami bias and would like to say that she is the main vocalist but each member has their talent (Rami was the one that hit the low note in the bridge). Ahyeon is the one I believe that you thought that looked like Jennie and was the one that had the high belting note in the bridge. She is known as "Little Jennie" and said that it is an honor to be called that but she hopes in time that people will see her colors in her performance. Rora is the one that started SHEESH and can really convey emotions in a song with very stable vocals. Pharita (pronounced Parita) actually has a singing voice similar to Rosé. Chiquita is the youngest member of the group and is often known as "Little Lisa" and also has very stable vocals but is also learning how to rap. Asa and Ruka (both are from Japan) are the rappers of the group and most would consider Asa to be the main rapper because of her cadence and flow. Ruka is considered the main dancer because of her experience and some people say that she reminds them of CL. And your opinion of Sheesh is actually not uncommon. Some people don't like the ending in this format but when they perform it live it is a different story. This is where it gets to be more similar like to BLACKPINK because they use it to hype up the crowd. Considering that this is their rookie year we would hear songs that would be similar to BLACKPINK just like when they debut people kept saying that they sound like 2NE1. The difference is that in this mini-album they do show more diversity that the groups before them. If you watch any live of SHEESH, it should be their last promotion performance of the song on INKIGAYO Live Band which set the standard for the current generation of how an encore performance should look like. I think that it is also weird that the majority of their songs are in English. On their mini-album only their debut song BATTER UP and their debut song as a 7 member group SHEESH are a mix of Korean and English. Other than that, the rest of the songs that they performed are primarily in English. So we might see a little different style coming from YG for BABYMONSTER. Or at least that is the hope. If they get the right songs, they will become a MONSTER not just in the K-pop industry but globally as well. I think that YG noticed that people have well received LIKE THAT and give them more R&B Hip Hop tracks but because they are coming right after BLACKPINK it becomes like a two-edge sword. Do they stray away from the "Girl Crush" Hip Hop style and if it fails then they will be blamed for wasting the girls talents and if they stick to that concept which they know works for them and the girls don't become as globally recognized as BLACKPINK then YG gets blamed for wasting the girls talents.

    Appreciate your comment! Definitely helps me distinguish the members a lot better. Early on, I think I'd say Ruka and Ahyeon are definitely my biases. I've had the chance to see their performance with the live band on M Countdown and I definitely agree that the ending part is a lot better with live instruments than it does in the studio version! While that's a good thing, the only negative I find with it is it's not what the majority of people will hear since they'll likely be streaming the studio versions wherever they hear it. I think it's generally safe to say that live instruments/bands will almost always elevate a performance (I'm a big fan of live bands so there's probably some bias there), so I personally feel the production of a song shouldn't be fully intended to sound good or at its peak only live. I feel live bands/instruments should be taking a song to another level or even changing its vibe entirely like some artists do when they do renditions live of some songs. On the note of the majority of their songs being in English, I think it's just the case of YG's (but also K-Pop in general has time has gone on) way of reaching Western countries and growing their fanbase. I definitely get what you mean between them kind of being on a double-edged sword having come after BP, and choosing to lean into that 'girl-crush' concept or more into modern sound which is definitely heavy on the R&B groove influence. If they lean towards that 'girl crush' concept YG is known for with their girl groups, it'll just feel like BP's shadow hovering over them the entire time and it might be difficult for them to break free from it given how large BP is. I see no reason as to why they can't strike a balance between that concept while also blending in newer sounds and concepts to help create their own style. The new girl groups over the last few years have shown completely different concepts and styles during their debuts compared to the seniors before them and over time have developed and explored new sounds, so I'm hoping BM goes in that direction to make them more unique.

    It’s clear you were selective in listening to the parts that I said I didn’t enjoy and ignore the praise I gave in so many of the other parts (intro, bridge, variety of the rappers in their verse, Like That as a whole). I already acknowledged on another comment about mistaking the producer! Though I don’t think it’s so far-fetched to believe Teddy could have been on this as well being he brought Choice37 into YG all those years ago and it’s clear they’ve developed a similar style following YG’s sound.

    It gets so boring when non yg fans react to yg mvs and keep saying it's very yg. Yes you are right, everyone liked the part you didn't. Broke so many records, popular around the world. Starting so negative and we knew what we were going to get from you. And it was easy to guess u would like Like That. We thought we had got rid of these anti YG reactors after the batter up hate train. Go back to your Hybe groups.

    I don’t understand why you’re so pressed and just forcibly assume I’m anti-YG and pro-HYBE 😭😂. I stated clearly I do think there are songs from YG that work, just generally speaking their music style is not for me. It’s also untrue to say everyone liked that ending part when a lot of people also shared the same sentiment I did about that ending. If you like it, great! Music’s all about preference at the end of the day. I’m glad the song and MV broke records! As I said, I think the girls are talented and deserve the recognition, even if all their songs they’re given might not be for me.

    @AljudeGarcia where are all the people that didn't like the ending? You say Blackpink had some b sides that were different, but YG stans love all the A sides that were different too. You instantly presume teddy, one of the producers for BP, etc was producer here, when he wasn't even involved. You find it hard to hide your dislike of YG.

  • @AljudeGarcia

    @AljudeGarcia

    17 күн бұрын

    @@David-wm5lc You can take a look around social media and different forums/threads/etc! I’m not the only one that has a similar opinion about the ending, and again, it’s just an opinion. I’ve already acknowledged Teddy not being a producer in another comment, but he was only used as an example since he was the in house for YG for the longest time before moving to TBL. And I only mentioned b-sides because for virtually every group, not just BP, they tend to be different from what groups produce as title tracks and helps show more versatility as artists. Of course there are title tracks within BP’s discography that vary in melody, tone, rhythm, etc., but I don’t think it’s unfair to say they all share strong similarities with one another. As I said, for the fans who enjoy it, great! But the style isn’t for me personally, the same way other styles might not be for you. People are allowed to have preferences and opinions 😄
