I have 2 super charges and charge all my 6,8s And 12ah batteries on them only for well over a year and half now! I've had zero issues with any of my batteries and I use them heavily daily! I love the super chargers for my big batteries!🔋

@@holdensmith5915 You might have a defective unit and should either reach out to Milwaukee Tools directly or the place yiu bought the charger from and try and warranty it out with the battery. I had alot of issues with trigger and associated circuitry on the M18 FUEL Gen 1 hammerdrill and had to warranty it out atleast 2 times.

@@shauncatlett6066 there's so many variables with batteries it's hard to tell why that battery went bad. Could be charger, could be battery, could be storage method, could be that it was hot from usage and immediately set it to charge which added to heat, the list goes on, what I can say for sure is. A company like Milwaukee will not design a charger to destroy batteries. The charger may reduce the lifespan of battery as a by product of the method in which it charges this being a super fast charger creates heat which lithium does not like. But it shouldn't be responsible for killing batteries instantly. If so make a warranty claim and get battery replaced.

@@LazyCrazyGuy The reason I suggested to warranty both (and brought up my hammer drill) is because either battery, charger, or both could be the issue. Milwaukee makes amazing tools, but they still have bad/defective units come off the line from time to time.

I think a better test would be to put the super charged battery on the vacuum and time how long it takes to die, then do the same with the non super charger battery. See if there is a lifetime discrepancy.

Alright Clint! I got the "Rapid Charger" for my 3, 6 & 8ah batteries out on the job site. Love it! Although I do not yet own the M18 Table Saw or 12ah battery (soon to be my next purchase) I appreciate the review. Go Clint! Smeeeeeeeshed!

Love my super charger. I have two 12s and an 8 and I worked them real hard using the leaf blower and the charger worked awesome. I use one rapid charger and the super charger on the job and they have no problem keeping my batteries charged.

I agree, I am a year into the super charger and have had 0 issues.

The Samsung INR21700-40T 4Ah cells in the 12.0Ah pack has a specified charge rate of 6A per cell (1.5C). The 13.5A supercharger is only a c-rating of 1.125C, which should be just fine and a walk in the park for these cells. The 1.5C charge rate is what is used for the cells rated cycle-life testing (which is 250 FULL discharge cycles). After 250 full discharge cycles the pack capacity will be reduced to 60% of its original capacity and will become a 7.2Ah battery at that point. Most people don’t do FULL discharges and usually top them back up after only a 50-75% discharge, which means the average user will get 350-500 recharges before reaching these levels of degradation. Charging them to a full 100% charge and storing them for long durations at 100% would cause far more damage and premature degradation, assuming Milwaukee is actually letting them charge to a true 100% (constant voltage cutoff of 100mA per the data sheet).

I use the rapid charger but only with my big batteries and only when I just need that quick half charge to finish a project. I try and keep a stock of charged batteries for the next day

I’ve never had issues with mine with the charging either. How fast and hard you discharge the battery and whether you let it cool off before recharging is more important. I’ve seen those two factors cause damage to my batteries.

Charging beyond max charging current is just as bad as over current discharge or not maintaining a safe temp....because going above the max charge current will result in a temp above 40 C which is the standard max charge temperature.

Nope. I charge my batteries with a hamster wheel. Takes 3 days to charge a CP2.0 but it's totally worth it.

Thanks, glad to know it will not charge my 5ah batteries any faster. The ones I use the most. I have a couple 9ah and a 12ah but the rapid charger does good enough for me. I don't have any table tools. Just got the 16" chain saw and blower. We will see if I need the super charger. I think your right, why put a 12 volt port on the super charger if it doesn't charge any faster. It should have been another 18volt port.

If you have a stationary tool like a table saw, get a corded tool.

The join compound on the supercharger is like a missed spot on the chalkboard looking at those two dollops of mud was driving me crazy!

We use these for railroad construction all day every day. Each crew has 15 batteries. We use all of them sometimes twice a day. They last a year…

I don't run that many battery's down super charger I use quite often had no battery issues. Makita chargers are similar to super charger a friend has had no battery issues with his makita batteries either. I totaly trust Milwaukee to have done excellent job in design of this like they have with every Milwaukee tool I own. I almost own everything they make in cordless & a lot of other Milwaukee tools no regrets on any of them.

I bought the Milwaukee Super Charger for less downtime between charges and haven't had any issues. I agree, I wish they had a dual M18 port Super Charger.

@@user-qh1os9qo8u hold on there, 120v 20a circuit is 2400 watts! Now at 12v charging, thats 200 amps available, it likely won’t use more than 30 amps charging two batteries simultaneously so it won’t pop your breakers.

I only use the rapid charger on my batteries but I have had one of my HD12ah batteries that I use on my OPE fail where it won't take a full charge. I think it's not so much about the charging but more about how hot and fast the battery gets discharged.

@@homesteadhaven2010 if your familiar with Milwaukee batteries and rapid charger you would know that the charger has a built in temperature monitor which if the battery is too hot it will not charge them until proper temp and has a flashing red light if situation occurs.

I think its more about how far you discharge it. Like when its dead and keeps cutting out but you keep trying to get the little extra out of it to finish what you're doing before recharging. Its the most common way 18650's fail is to discharge them too much. Some people have had luck when the charger says its no good and wont charge it, using another battery to basically boost it so the charger will start charging it again because now its above the minimum discharge. But obviously not going to work with a battery pack unless you rig up some kind of 12v attachment. It did for an older dewalt battery and got it too work again but not for very long.

Milwaukee smart battery tech has gotten to a point where the batteries can communicate with the charger and the charger can regulate its charging output to the peak charge rate appropriate to each individual battery plugged into it. It used to be true that high speed chargers would damage batteries not meant for high speed charging, but it just isn't true anymore unless you have a dinosaur of a charger.

Just got two M18 12AH and charged both on the charger. Just today, I did the second one and when it got to 3 bars, I took it off to check the temperature, etc. It was fairly warm as expected and since I was not in a hurry, I just put it on a standard charger to finish it off. FYI...Both the battery and the charger were similarly warm. I can easily check the 120 VAC load to get the power going in to the charger. The next time I do a 12 ah, I'm going to measure the input power to the charger.

This scared me at first,during power outages I have to charge my pacemaker with this battery,I've had no issues so far.

My ryobi batts lasted 10 years. My dewalt 1nicad and 1lithium have lasted 10 and 7 years still going. When I went red the research I read said to use standard charger for maximum life. They will still last "a long time" with quick chargers tho.

I've been wanting to get the rapid charge station that rapid charges 3 packs at once. 3 m18 and 3 m12 ports so it will eliminate plugging in so many chargers

It's a known issue in the battery industry that fast charging DOES kill lithium ion batteries faster, but whether that's an issue is the value proposition for the user. If you have multiple batteries, and can afford the charge time it is better to slow charge. Also, of not using a lithium battery for a prolonged period. It's better to store them between 40-60 percent charge then fully charge just before use. The latter was a controversial issue when lithium cells first came out, but it's a settled issue now.

What battery is best for the m18 right angle drill quick release I can't seem to find a battery strong enough I just got the m18 12volt so hopefully that will do it

I just bought the new compact 400 foot pound Dewalt cordless impact driver. That’s right! Foot pounds baby. It’s a monster and I love it.

I'm a home DIYer with only the M12 Fuel batteries so this vid doesn't really apply to me. But I like watching your videos! Grab yourself a Dew from that fridge Clint!!!

Did you also test smaller batteries? Like the 2.0s? Or the 5.0s? (Two I use most often on hand tools)

I think is was Makita that has a battery tester unit that looks like a charger but tells you what’s up inside. How many charges, if it ever cut out at any time, over heats, Ect... I think Mil-walk-I-A needs one of them too.

Some milwaukee batteries if u press on the remaining charge button on them in certain sequence it tells you I believe how many charges it either has left or how many times it's charged..one or the other

@@paedahe4975 My best guess is it just tells the status of the battery, all my 6 batteries are working fine. This seems to be an assembly number because the first two 4.0 batteries, which came in a set, have their dates and other identification numbers match. For example, the fourth battery in my list (4.0ah) has an earlier date, 1/6/14, then the first two 4.0ah batteries, 1/22/14, and the code is also lower 0808 then the later ones 0950 and 0952. This may help Milwaukee pinpoint any errors on the assembly line if sent in for warranty. This seems to be a cycle count. This seems to indicate what capacity the batteries are, since all the 4.0 match together and the 3.0 match together. What i gleaned from this investigation is if buying used batteries, its good to check on the cycle count after the all four triple blink, to get an idea of how much it's been used.

@@paedahe4975 Push and hold the battery charge status button on your M18 batteries and they appear to flash a series of coded messages for about a minute or so. I assume these show stored information in the battery about manufacturing, charge cycles, state of health and maybe more. Anyone crack these codes?

My (2)9ah worked just fine for the last two years. I use them on my SDS, hole hawg, regular drills, band saw and circular saw.

The biggest issue with the milwaukee batteries is fact that people think battery is charged when green light flashes which is only 80% and should be solid green before removing it Also fact people tend to hot swap which is worse thing can do to them

4:11 AGREE Clint, Wish that M12 Port was removed and another M18 Port was there instead, as woulda made more sense to me, seeing that this charger don’t charge M12 batteries any faster at all, and if using this charger you definitely rockin the Big Boy Batteries and won’t be charging 12v on here😊 1:53 Yes after 1 year a battery will be about 80% charged when at “full charge”, that’s 100% but it’s really 80%, and totally normal. Batteries don’t last forever and heat isn’t good which happens when charging. Always use a rapid or normal, and again, batteries ain’t gonna last forever. Thx Clint for 1 YEAR REVIEW VIDEO. good job dude, of course there is a faster way to find out but this was a great job too.

I’ve smoked 3 12AH batteries with a rapid charger. Part of the problem could be using my truck inverter, so of the problem could be the rapid charger charging at too high of a power rating. Regardless, I switched to 12V chargers(cigarette lighter plug in) and haven’t had any problem since.

I bought my 18v Fuel drill machine brand new at the beginning when I was charging my 18V 2AH THE RED LIGHT WAS FLICKERING , I informed the company and they respond your battery is damaged, well , I tried to push the battery and noticed it has to be engaged, then charging the battery has no issues . Give some time things will work it out if you buy new.

I've noticed more batteries give out on the fast charger than the regular. I don't use the fast charger anymore. I believe it does kill your batteries faster.

My Dad gifted me the m18 fuel surge 1/4 hex hydraulic (impact) driver kit with the m18 m12 charging station (like the one in the video)... popped in a redlithium cp2.0 battery and it started making a hissing soune...

Well, there is "more wear" to the battery by charging faster. all batteries like slower charging and last longer if they are charged slower. So, the real question is why you don't just have 4 or 5 chargers for 5 or 6 12-amp hour batteries? The normal house outlet has a 15-amp fuse or breaker which equates to 1500 watts of charging power. The chargers charge at 3 (regular charger) or 6 amps (rapid charger) to 20 volts. That is 60 or 120 watts - you could have 10 rapid chargers going at once. Extra chargers and batteries would also cushion having one go dead and prevent "down time".

It does shorten the lifespan of the battery the more current going into a battery at a time the hotter they get and intern damages the Lithium-Ion cells but the only way it will harm the battery is over the lifespan of the battery as in charge cycles but not much as long as the fan keeps them cool good video and 1 year later review Clint I do also agree and wish there was a dual Super charger I love the heck out of my Dual rapid chargers @ToolReviewZone

If the actual Lithium cells are generating heat while charging, they are being damaged. Lithium cells cool while charging, unlike other chemistries. The BMS and charging circuits generate heat.

They actually become cool. The pack could have heat from the BMS circuit, if it is actually in the pack. Some are and some are not.

this charger's best point is the fan, so if it cools the battery while charging, it will be better than the stander or Rapid charger, since cooler battery while charging = longer life for the battery, I have all the Milwaukee charger series (except the 12v sequence charger) and I almost use this in every charge. If you go to Makita they use different strategy, their chargers way faster than the Milwaukee's in charging 18650 batteries and use fan in most of their chargers' series which is a plus for them, and never had any issues with the two batteries that I use from Makita neither the Milwaukee.

The fan is to cool the circuits. The actual cells should NEVER become warm while charging. Lithium cells actually tend to become a touch cool when charging.

If something "cools" when you're sending 100 watts of power into it, that means, "Zero Point Energy." Sending current into a resistor can never cool it down, unless the battery is a "Free Energy" or "Zero Point Energy" device, which reverses the laws of physics and the Laws of Thermodynamics. I think it's totally possible, but science says that it can't be done. Every "Free Energy" claim in history also had a claim of the electrical components "going cold." There are stories of entire engines in cars, going cold, and running so cold that the radiator gets ice on it, instead of running at 180F degrees.@@solarsynapse

@@starseeddeluxe The only free energy is from stars and that eventually quits. I think the chemistry is endothermic. I know quality Lithium Polymer cells charged slow will become cooler than room temperature. If ANY heat is generated, then they are being charged too fast (To intentionally shorten their life to sell more.) or are defective. They can become warm from the circuits that are close to them. 140F is the max temp for discharge before damage occurs.

@@solarsynapse Wow. You may have confirmed a suspicion I had. I figured the new fast chargers will help users destroy their batteries 30% faster. Milwaukee is amazing, but batteries lasting 10 years under commercial use isn't good for business; my batteries from 2013 are still going fine. I didn't know they were so sensitive to heat, or that they were endothermic. Thank you for sharing. Although an endothermic resistor is a violation of modern physics and so they are hiding the truth of Lithium Ion technology.

I just encountered an odd problem with the standard M18/M12 combo Rapid Charger. I have two new 2.0Ah M18 batteries that I just bought a few weeks ago. I ran each one down about half way and when I placed them on the Rapid Charger both of them displayed the red/green error light. I then placed them on a standard m18/M12 combo charger and they charged fine without errors. Weird, eh?

Yeah brother, definitely doesn't sound right. What was the temp outside/inside? To cold and thr may not charge. Also have to smack them down in sometimes. If they don't seat correctly they will do that too

@@ToolReviewZone It was about 45 degrees outside and then I had them in the house for about an hour before trying to charge them (I was recharging a 5.0Ah battery first). I don’t think the connection was the issue as I attached and removed them a couple times.

So, I have the M18 3AH (HO), 5AH (non HO), 6AH, 8AH, and 12AH batteries with the super chargers, I will say that I've seen what people are talking about, my batteries are not properly balanced and would indicate full charged (solid green) while on the charger but as soon as I pulled them off, they're only at 3/4 charge. In fact, today (6-2-2024) I noticed my M18 blower wasn't lasting as long with the 12AH battery so I pulled the casing off of it and tested the battery banks... the highest bank was reading 4.01v while the lowest bank was reading 3.46v so a difference of 0.55v and that difference makes a huge impact on the battery run time. If the lowest bank gets to "dead zone" the battery will shut off while the remaining banks will still have room to go. Not ideal. I'm fortunate enough to have found and "built" (there's a circuit board you can find on Amazon) a balancer for it so I can charge the banks individually getting all of them to optimal voltage. I'm glad you've had no issues with your batteries this far, if you do start having issues with them, let me know and I can walk you through getting the bank charger connected.

Supercharger charges at 13.5 amp high output batteries have a much stronger bms and can handle it cuz those 21700 can easily take higher amp than 13.5 amp i often put a little usb fan to keep charger and bms cool

My super charger will not charge brand new batteries for the first time, it gives the dreaded green red flash. All my other chargers have no issue with virgin batteries...

Hi. I really enjoy your videos. Apart from informative they are also funny to watch. Having now quite a few cordless milwakee tools myself I was asking myself the other day this question: If I buy a corded tool and it uses a certain ammount of electricity because it uses, say a few hundred watts, which cost energy to run/money. How much electricity/money would it cost to run a simular cordless tool in comparison. Is there a saving? I know the battery's are say £30 for a 2amp battery but with a cable tool I don't need to spend that money and cordless tools tend to be cheaper too, but that's not so much the question. Is there actually a saving to charge a 12V battery compared to using a corded tool. Do you or anyone know this? I did try to find out on the net, but could not find any conclusive or objective information. Thank you for any help.

A watt is a unit of power. A watt is a watt, no matter where it comes from or where it goes to. What matters is the efficiency between the input and output. Most corded tools use brushed motors which are more inefficient than newer brushless motors (found in most cordless powertools). As for the price difference, I can't see any reasonable ROI on the cordless (brushless) tools just based on the electricity bill alone

All batteries have a finite lifespan and charge cycles. Other factors like charge level its stored at and temperature make a lot more impact on lithium composite batteries.

Does this apply to dewalt batts or just these? Ive been charging my 5ah batts on the basic chargers that came with my 1.3 and 1.5ah batts, rather than the quick charger that came with the 5, just to be safe. I dont use them nearly enough for the slower charge to be limiting my work or anything, so i dont mind waiting.

I charge all my batteries including the small 1.3 and 1.5 on the quick charger for many years with no problems, it’s not about how fast they charge it’s about the heat, as long as the fan is on it’s good to go, I’ve taken temperature checks with a Flir thermal imaging camera and they never reached critical temperatures.

Can you charge normal m18-12 on a rapid charger without damaging them.

What is the run time you get out of the battery charged with the super compared to one that hasn't been charged on the super charger?

Never noticed a difference

I only use standard chargers and polish my batteries after every use.

Clint says, "Lucky you have your swim goggles on". Vince says, "not funny". Funny as all beat out!!!

I use the rapid charger on the regular style batteries. I use the super charger only on my high output batteries. I have found no problems.

Yeah, it doesn’t seem like Milwaukee would want to put out a charger that can push so much current that it damages the cells inside. Good to know. I don’t have the supercharger, but ai think the largest Milwaukee battery I have so far is an 8 or 9.

I thought about getting the super charger but I already have the dual port M18 and two of the 3 port M18/3 port M12 rapid chargers and those have been real nass like, I’ll remove the batteries off of the charger soon after it’s fully charged. Smeeesh that like button. 👀👉🏽 👍🏽

They have done tests on lithium batteries where fast charging doesn't really damage lithium batteries. The only way it does is due to added heat and because it charges so fast they have found the additional heat is actually not prolonged much so very minimal damage is done. For instance I have a one plus phone put into service at end of summer 2018 charged with dash charger and still going strong at this message.

Depends on the charge C rating of the cell. There is a vast difference in cell quality. Lithium cells do NOT become warm when charged unless there is something wrong. They actually become a bit cool when charging.

I’m looking at buying my first cordless Milwaukee but I’ve seen and read some bad things about the batteries and chargers. I’m still debating I might go with Flex instead.

That's why the batteries are called red link they communicate with the charger and the tool

I have a brand new M12/M18 charger, model 48-59-1812, that seems to charger the batteries OK, but the area above the port for the M18 gets so hot that you can smell melting plastic. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, was there a way to correct it other than sending it to Milwaukee for evaluation?

You still get a full charge on 12.0, mine is 3 red lights not 4. After 5 charges

Is it common for there to be a smell coming from this Milwaukee 12.0 battery when charging for the first time on a Rapid charger?

Do a steady load test on that control battery and a new one with a light or something. See whats up

A bad XC4.0 M12 battery destroyed all my M12/M18 Milwaukee chargers including a Rapid charger. Chargers at first blinks red/green resets couple of time after a few minutes, now all dead no M12 or M18 batteries could be charged. OK after removing the the charger from the outlet for a few minutes it works again for the M18, M12 still won't charge for one of the charger.

It would had been nice to see a runtime a year ago and today on the same tool in comparison. Just saying.

My question is if Milwaukee makes a super charger why isn’t that technology used in ALL their chargers? Why make us pay extra for the “faster” charge?

I have always known that about quick charge charger's. The ruin batteries

The issue is not just the charger. It's 18v and calling the tools HO. Some HO tools and batteries over heat when using continuously and near tools capacity. They are light duty compared to the competition . Not bad for some trades and conditions.

Maybe there will be a dual or triple charger coming out soon enough. When people have said they had issues, did they go into detail about it? I find when it comes to things online that people can complain that something doesn’t work but they don’t go into detail about how they did it? How they used it? The conditions etc? There is all these variables. With people just putting in, “it messed up my battery(ies)”. How did it mess it up? Explain? Then you get people that well tell people that haven’t had any issues with a product, “you’re just a fanboy etc.” I could only see issues with the batteries if they sat for a long time, never been used and then having an issue with the battery itself. But the charger seemed to never have issues.

I completely disagree It’s charges 5.0’s way faster than the standard charger. I use them Monday-Friday all day. Maybe I misunderstood which battery you were talking about. My battery’s 4 years old don’t hold a charger when they are cold anymore but a quick charge brings them to full power.

Kind of makes me think I should have some Milwaukee tools; alas, too late in this old craftsman's life to change horses. Good info. Thanks.

They have a dual one now, u can buy it in a pack with 2x12ah batteries, and it charges both at the same time. I do know where people are coming from about it destroying the batteries, but it's not the charger or the current that kills the batteries. It's the heat that the charging generates. The heat will shorten the life span of the batteries, but at the end of the day, normal discharge and charging the batteries will eventually kill them anyways.

Either the battery or the charger cause I got two that came with miter saw and both won't charge after two months. So it's one or the other

My battery died, three months later, I used it on my table saw
