    GameFreak has really just lost its passion for the series. We had Gen 7 back on the 3DS which had highly cinematic Z Moves, Mega Forms returning, new Pokemon and all the older Pokemon from previous gens in the game coded in that you could bring in. And yet Gamefreak wants people to believe they can't do that on better hardware... Sadly this has been the norm for "current year" games. Lackluster minimalist effort in order to cut costs. While SW/SH was the first look at the evitable decline the series was going to have, S/V was proof that GameFreak is gone and I'm done with the Pokemon games. The drop in quality was staggering. I remember how those dumbfucks at GameFreak wanted to say that they had to cut Pokemon out from SW/SH for "better graphics and more expressive Pokemon" or some shit, while forgetting how Gens 6 and 7 on the 3DS had the ability to pet and feed Pokemon and stuff like Mega Forms and Z Moves. There was plenty enough expressiveness in those features. And it was all done while keeping the previous Generations Pokemon in them. I don't see GameFreak improving, as thats just how companies are today. I'd be genuinely shocked if GameFreak had a redemption arc, but given the amount of effort that doing all that takes and how people are just buttfucking lazy today suddenly tells me that wont happen.

    I just realized that Black Tower/White Treehollow from B2W2 are incredibly similar to a rogue like with the procedurally generated pokemon, semi-random layout with the doctors and key holders, and the boss trainers, with all items besides held items being banned as well. It's sad that everyone forgot about it, but it's so stressful and so fun, especially when you have already used your doctor and can't heal when everything is really low hp or dead. You have to play it to really appreciate it.

    too bad the mystery dungeon games, just like the mainline pokemon games, are easy as hell and designed to be beaten by toddlers. a big part of the reason people like emerald rogue and even other "traditional" romhacks is because they're actually challenging. the pokemon franchise would have so much potential if they'd just stop trying so hard to appeal to the super casual part of the audience

    @@no-bark4112 pokemon doesn't need to be hard for it to be good and the reason why pokemon is successful is because it apeals to everyone. The one thing that made pokemon bad is because they stopped innovating on their games. They have become repeatable and overall just unfinished products. Mystery dungeon was good because it is vastly different from the main line games just like pokemon rangers. They weren't difficult but they were fun because it differs from your tipical traditional pokemon games and actually made refreshing mechanics.

    You can try pokemon Hellgirl. You get to make whatever team of 6 you want the start. You cannot change your team after you pick it out you can adjust the EVs and IVs of your pokemon, you can give them any move in their learn set and hm pool, and can give each pokemon one item. From there you enter a stage with 3 of the 6 pokemon in your team. Each stage consists of 15 rooms with 3 options for you to choose. One route takes you to an area with random encounters, one leads you to a trainer fight, and the last one can lead you to either an ambush where your pokemon get weakened or get a random status effect put on them or it could be a healing station. Before you make a decision you can interact with the statue at the cross road to learn what one route is before you make a decision. After 15 rooms you encounter a boss fight. Beat them and moe on to the next stage with the opportunity to tune up your team again and give them new items. It's a fun game.

    The gym leader with Mewtwo and Deoxys Speed are probably the biggest difficulty spike I've encountered in a roguelike, completely caught me off guard. Edit: If the gym leader battles truly are randomized, I was probably unlucky to encounter Mewtwo + Deoxys Speed in two consecutive runs lol

    @ I'd personally say that it's not absolutely just more technically since the only thing PMD lacks is permadeath, it's more of a roguelite and I find roguelite and roguelike to be too closely related to be complete different.

  • @flugkiller6162

    @flugkiller6162

    @ Not gonna argue about the definition of a roguelike, but the main dungeon gameplay resembles older roguelikes (e.g. Nethack) a lot more than what nowadays is colloquially known as a roguelike. You may or may not agree with this sentiment but it's not something taken out of thin air.

  • @Dukstless

    @Dukstless

    Жыл бұрын

    @@flugkiller6162 The only major difference I would say is that you do not lose all of your progress in PMD (since you keep your power level and some items) but that's true of games like Hades as well (with their metagame, where you do not have access to all content from the get go and sometimes the content you unlock is better than what you start with; seriously some of the shit that gets added in Enter the Gungeon as you progress can easily break the difficulty in half, except you don't start with it and instead are dripfeed new weapons or items over time). It's probably why people don't think it's a Rogue-like (even though it's a turn-based dungeon crawler with system that prevents you from stalling a floor too much), even after Super leaned more on the "lmao git gud" side of roguelikes. You also do have more than one character in your party, but in some roguelikes you do get allies, pets or the like, so it's not that far off. Even with that there are dungeons like Purity Forest that bring it closer to typical experience (though even at its worst, PMD never approaches the peak of roguelike bullshit).

    Hey Jan so I dont know if you know the game Temtem but its a pokemon-like game I really enjoy that has more of an emphasis on strategy and difficulty. On Monday its getting an update which is adding a built in nuzlocke mode to the game and you can even play through the nuzlocke mode in co-op if you wanted to, say, drag along your greatest rival for the experience.
