This game's writing is FANTASTIC. No joke, this game of all things rekindled a love I have for each of these characters that I haven't felt in like a decade and a half lol

The only thing I didn't like writing wise when there was the option to say something over the train intercom and the only 2 options were to beat box or say "if you can hear this, your armpits stink" I cringed so hard and wished I could just back out, but I chose beat box.

@@mamodokod4613 For me personally, that made me chuckle. Especially the other character's responses if you choose, "if you can hear this, your armpits stink". It really fits with the awkwardness of the character, which is what they were going for. Of course, this is just my opinion. Each to their own.

I love how they went all "What would Sonic do in situations like this?" Ah yes, what would the dead guy who got murdered do? Who cares about the detective investigating, what would the dead conductor do if he's still alive?

This game really feels like an idw arc or like an episode of sonic x. I would love if we got more games like this that are just mini adventures that are just fun ways to explore these characters

If we would have more games like this but longer length like 6 hours and numerous chapters then I think this may be a great path for the future. And probably more game modes like this one 😍 It feels like you could really sink into the characters because you're always watching them😊

It also has a special line of dialogue at the beginning when you put in your name, if you name yourself Phoenix Wright it'll say I wouldn't be able to show my face with that name, or something like that.

@@mamodokod4613 I think the issues with Phoenix was actually an issue with the RegEx code that filters bad words out as it will find the "hoe" in pHOEnix and filter it out based on that.

The player character is my favorite part of the game. It's like if your self-insert OC was a loser with anxiety that almost none of the characters respect. They're literally just a normal guy

Quite funny because "Barry" might be the best sonic "OC" to date. And he's just a normal guy with big dreams.

It's not just the fact that it's free. It's the fact that it's free, no ads, and no macro-transaction. They are LITERTARY losing money from this, but they still did it. And it's so fun to boot. 98% positive review in Steam is well earned. Like what? Lol XD

I just hope they can make sonic act shonen-like again, those super sonic bosses were cool but if theres anything i and many people love, its sonics shonen like banter and stuff between his enemies, like in the storybook games, if we can get that back in a sonic game again soon. actually (🤓), i would say sonic in the 2010s was more about “embracing the weirdness” of the franchise and its fanbase… and that’s why it left a bad taste in people’s mouths. too little thought put into writing actual characters, too much thought put into memes and self-awareness for the sake of bad humor. i think what they’ve been doing in terms of writing these characters and their dynamics with each other is what has helped revive this franchise (the movies, frontiers, idw comics). doesn’t hurt that frontiers was fun to play, hell this game was fun to watch a playthrough of!

Yeah the sonic movies we pretty good. Sonic prime has also been great. This game was cute fun, wholesome and the writing was pretty good. The characters felt pretty alive. I have played a lot of the games in general but I've heard there has been good ones coming out recently. It seems like Sonic is having a bit of a Renaissance period.

Crazy how we got 4 amazing games that were shadow dropped in 2023: Hi-Fi Rush The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog ParanormaSight: Seven Mysteries of Honjo. Metroid Prime Remastered. Based on how this game was “shadow dropped” on April fools, I went into this confident I could figure out the killer. I am the worst detective

I played it. It isn't the best game ever, but as something that is completely free it is really cute and actually replayable, in the same way that you can read a book more than once. True, Sonic is an action guy, but this is a game that proves the Sonic Franchise doesn't JUST belong to Sonic, it doesn't JUST have to be platforming and racing games..

Yo if they decide to give us a more bite-sized Sonic platformer, can we like... GET this artstyle? I absolutely love it

I wish we get to play as Tails or Amy, but it's refreshing getting to interact with Sonic and his friends from a normal POV, really shows how unhinged everyone is. Edit: This game feels like that one movie with the murder mystery on a train and Kenneth Branagh playing a detective but with furries and a family guy dead pose.

Murder On the Orient Express, and the word "unhinged" is actually an adjective the player character uses to describe the group at one point.

It feels like we are getting a sense of what the everyday life of these characters is. It's refreshing

Knuckles with his rarely seen beloved hat is what sold it to me

I love the running gag with the trash bin, it’s so funny seeing tails ask if you’re gonna cry over not finding anything in a trash bin, then in the conductor car, tails, Amy and shadow just stare at you after you look in the final trash bin and there’s nothing in there

It’s wild that Sega hasn’t made a new Sonic RPG yet, it’d be the perfect way to explore the character’s personalities and how they interact with each-other in a game.

This was such a neat idea for an real april fools joke . It’s so up my alley too. And it’s FREE

I really think that when Mario is really good because it doesn't change too much, Sonic is at it's strongest when they put their whole into trying new funny things. Their main problem was that sonic team wasn't going 100% hogwild, almost like they always had this "what if the old fans don't like this" at the back of their head.

I loved Barry’s reactions to the group and the fact that a lot of the time stuff he thought is exactly what I’d do😂 dang they did well to make the player character relatable

It's nice you partaking in this as well.

Only Sonic would have an official game title like The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog. This is the the same series where a cut level was titled Genocide City.

in a game like this where the if its canon or not is LITERALLY up in the air i like to look at it subtractive instead of additive dont look at the things that MAKE it canon look at the things that contradicts canon and SPOILERS the only thing that can really make or break the canon with this game is whatever sega is planning on doing with sage besides that games as canon as it can be because there isnt anything that says its NOT canon

Porting to the consoles would be expensive and not something they would do for a game they are giving away for free. On the plus side, it's a pretty light game so you could probably run on pretty minimal PC hardware, like wouldn't even need a discreet GPU so long as your CPU has integrated graphics.

@@Gnidel i think they meant to modify some mechanics? The game would benefit from strafe, some sort of targeting and shooting from shoulder too (aside of shadow game being stupid with the replayability bullshit, its way too imprecise for this ganeplay)

@@sonicdml4175 They had Sonic Mania made by someone who wasn't part of Sonic team and that game was liked more than actual Sonic Team games. This is a recurring theme, Sonic Team only makes bad and mediocre games and there needs to be some changes.
