    I queued into Crown of the Immaculate and after the fight, I got six comms as a Dragoon. The rest of the raid waited out my cutscene to cheer at me. I think that was probably when I knew for sure that Shadowbringers was *different*

    The taste of emotional damage from ShB never goes old, even after so many years. I see a thumbnail with Emet's serene face after the Hades fight, and some sprout in the corner depicted in a status of emotional dissolve, I click - no second thought. Also, I take note of the channel. Because its creator will inevitably go on to do Endwalker sooner or later, and I wouldn't want to miss the second filling.

  • @alibutterfly82

    The ugly crying at the end... yep, I can relate. That was also me at the end of 5.0... and 5.3... and basically the last 1/4 of Endwalker... such emotional devastation, it WAS SquareEnix's intention. If you've not made it to the end of Endwalker yet, enjoy the rest of our journey - if you have, enjoy the last few weeks until Dawntrail, fellow Warrior of Light and Darkness/Adventurer.

    I like to point a few things out because there's SO MUCH to take in through the ending. In Rak Tika, when asked how Emet knows about the mural, he says "Because this is our history. Our story." When you, joined by Ardbert, are engulfed in light, Ardbert tells Emet "This is our future. Our story." Emet's lines at the end are in the trailer, from the gremlin: "Who are you? No one! Nothing!" After you defeat him and Emet asks that you remember them... he's accepting you proved yourself. You're worthy to inherit the star. Because of this, he's standing up straight, no more slouching. The weight is lifted from his shoulders. Someone else noted, yes, Urianger is actually visible floating in the water on the bottom right of the screen at the last second before the scene fades at the beach. And I noticed someone else commented on this, but when Ardbert is walking into the Crystarium to his comrades, his axe is no longer stained. His guilt is washed away. But fear not, the patches are just as emotionally impactful and Endwalker will make you think about your life, purpose, and meaning. So many more emotions ahead!

    emet-selch is one of the best villains ever written in a FF story imo. He had plenty of times to kill you and your friends during the fight on the purple rocks before the hades fight and he never dealt any serious damage and just sat there goading the whole time. Think he WANTED us ( the players ) to kill and stop him

  • @xviii5780

    @xviii5780

    13 күн бұрын

    Imo he not so much *wanted* us to kill him, but he was just very tired and he probably suspected that his plan either wouldn't work, or whatever it would bring back wouldn't be the life he missed. He accepted that he can't move on from the past and decided to die with it, Amaurot projection being his sort of last goodbye.

    For Emet, there is a great bit of physical story telling as well. Look at his model prior to the fight: he is hunched over, his eyes tired and weighted down. His burden has weighted him down, over and over again. A thousand, thousand life times searching for a a way to bring about the grand design. And he can do naught by try again and again. But after we beat him? Standing straight and tall. His burden unloaded. He is unfettered by his duty, his gaze clear and strong. And all he asks of us is to remember the Aincents.

    Famitsu does regular polls of pop culture in japan including most popular final fantasy characters and for like 20 years its always been the same charaters at the top like Sephiroth and Cloud. Until Shadowbringers happened and since then Emet Selch has been right up there. The modern goat of the franchise.

    So you got Hades, Themis, Hermes, Athena... you get the gist of it, so you can only be Helios, Helios Azem, a travelling sun.

    SPOILER WARNING: Personally, I'm in agreement with the above post that Apollo is the most likely candidate. The FFXIV devs have been good about remembering little tidbits from ARR and applying them to the game and one particularly interesting fact -- at least to me -- is if you're a male character, the goldsmith guild master, Serendipity, tries to guess your name when you take the first quest and the name she guesses for you is Apollo. If you're a female character she guesses Adrian. I tried this on several different characters to see if the name she guesses is randomized and it's not. Male characters were ALWAYS Apollo and female characters were always Adrian. Plus, Apollo is a much more prominent god than Helios. In some cases Apollo just straight up replaces Helios. Apollo, also, isn't just associated with the sun, he is also the god of Light in general. He is the god of prophecy as well and we already know from the Pandaemonium raids that Azem has a penchant for prophecy, as he/she predicted our coming to Themis. Apollo is a shepherd and Azem is "shepherd to the stars in the dark". I could go on, but yeah... Many clues hint more towards Apollo than Helios.

    @@Bandikitty cool theory, makes a lot of sense. The biggest hint for me is the Azem's crystal, being the sun and all. Also, Emet leaving the same symbol in places where he told us to visit.
