So how did South Africa demolish the All Blacks? | Test 1 | 2022

Hey! Why not head to squarespace.com/squidgerugby to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code SQUIDGERUGBY.
This Saturday, South Africa tore the All Blacks limb from limb. A game as one-sided as they come on everything but the scoreboard. So, how did the Boks rip them open, and what did the All Blacks get so wrong?
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , so I can buy Beauden Barrett a hot air balloon ride or something so he can have a nice Saturday instead this week

There's nothing complex about what the Boks do, they have a predictable game plan and they execute it well! I think the Boks will be chastened on the end of year tour. The box-kicking bomb squad routine is unlikely to be as effective against teams with more complex attacking and defence patterns as the French and Irish

That takes me back to how Kitch Christy trained the Boks back in '95. Man those guys were focused and spoke about it later in interviews. The confidence that the coach inspired because they had a very clear plan and work to do when one part of it was done. Someone (from Zambia actualy) asked on the Springbok group what the Holy Grail refers to. He clarified the coach mentioned it in one of the half time speeches during BIL tour. BIL is many things but defo not the holy grail to us. I think he caught a reference to the long term plan being discussed. Consecutive World Cups. Just my opinion though.

Indeed, we need to get rid of this rubbish modern notion that we do better as the underdogs. There is no nation that should be able to touch us. In the apartheid years, this self-belief was tainted with racism, but now we must build this confidence forward as a nation combining the strength of all our cultures and ethnicities. We should make the world tremble at the feet of our forwards, and make them weep by the ferocity of our attack. Beating the ABs should not be seen as a crowning achievement, but the natural result of great preparation and execution.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I wish more people were able to appreciate the game on this level; maybe then the Boks wouldn't get so much flak for playing "boring" rugby. To most fans/spectators, the ideal game apparently is what Super Rugby was for years, with non-stop running, crazy offloads and 12 tries per match, with a final score of 40-38. Bok test rugby is more like a game of chess. The type of chess where the pieces can hit you in the face with a hammer.

  • @NathanMcClintock

The Boks were outstanding. Calm, measured, totally understood their game plan. This allowed them to be organised, handle pressure well, and execute without really even considering what the opposition was doing or otherwise. The ABs were the exact opposite. Panicked, all over the show, a dreadful or even non-existent game plan. Therefore disorganised, error ridden, and no script to play from, This sits squarly with the coach. Grow some balls NZR and sack him And the captain cant handle the pressure. I cant think of another ABs captain who capitulated like Sam Cane did. Put the poor guy out of his misery! His leadership skills are not up to the task.

  • @Jaco_Schutte

@@NathanMcClintock agreed on the ABs looking all at sea; I've watched NZ teams play for many years, and even on the odd occasion they did lose, I've never seen them looking this out of sorts. It's so unusual, I don't know what to make of it. We're so used to seeing NZ playing with an almost instinctive freedom, and clearly they're not comfortable with themselves atm. Ironically the Boks are the ones that have for many years being accused of being a "dumb" team with lots of brawn but no gameplan or finesse. This crop clearly still have the muscle in spades, but they're learning how to play a very smart tactical game as well. Now just to be more clinical about converting opportunities into points.

I don’t really understand why people think Le Roux isn’t good. He’s literally the king of the assist. He’s a general on organising the back-line defence and a wizard in the counter-attack. Every young back-line player, regardless of position, should watch him play and learn. Ball’s always in two hands looking for the next play, head’s always on the right side when tackling and he’s always committing 100% to everything he does, whether it’s punching through a hole to distribute a try-enabling pass or chasing one of his terrifying up-and-unders. He’s an absolutely incredible ambassador for the game of rugby.

By far my favourite show. Really enjoy watching how you analyse a game. The sad fact is that the Kiwis lack structure. Their skill set isn't gone..it's just almost impossible to show it if you don't have any structure to play of. As a proud Bok supporter it is great to see our depth in our squad. Yes we lost our second game to the Welsh but it just showed how al the players understand the environment and plan of their coaches.

They just need a better leader(coach) and they will get back to the AB team we know and love to play against. Hope they can find their form again. As for the boks we have some talented players, but still see a lot to improve honestly. @@lzb1363 Just in case you are unaware, "bully" is a fairly common idiom in sports when referring to a team that was physically dominant compared to their opponents. It's not referring to the Boks' character in any negative way. It actually means exactly what you said, that they outmuscled the ABs and imposed their will on the game.

I want nothing more than to sit and have a drink with this bloke and pick his brain to absolute bits. How he’s not doing television analysis yet is beyond me… sensational knowledge on display and a genuinely funny guy. 10/10 combo
