It is not a funny song. It's about how much he misses his parents

It's such a strange mix of feelings. Happy music with a sad ending. I like the song.

This song is a tribute to his father / Parents who passed away. Europa in Dutch means Europe. Pa or Papa means dad. His dad once told him the world has no “Grenzen” which could be translated to both borders (Borders are a man made concept) or limitations (Many people create their own limitations in their own mind). This life lesson inspired him to have keep having an open view on the world and live his life to the fullest without putting limitations on himself. After his parents died he carried a lot of pain with him. No matter where on earth he was (Germany, Italy), whatever food he would eat (Escargots in France, Fish and chips in UK, Paella in Spain), he still carries this pain with him. In the end nobody but himself could deal with this pain and he himself must find peace with his losses. Only going through the grief and finding inner peace would put a end to this suffering. This song tells the story of him as an orphan trying to do exactly that. Him creating this song was a huge part of this process. The line with Stromae / papaoute (which Translates to: Dad where are you), is followed with the words about how he wants his parents to be proud of him. He used to watch Eurovision with his parents and told them one day he would be there performing. Which is what he now did.

I'm a European before being Dutch and I love this song. It emphasizes that borders, boundaries, frontiers are nonsense and that we are all humans. There is fire, in nationalist sentiments and in wars, but we should make peace. That, to me, is the message.

I think a lot of people watching and listening to esc always want to look up every song performing at esc and that's why every artist drops the song 2 month's before the contest. Its smart to put the subtitles in this video because people will look up this song and see the subtitles and know right away what it's all about. At the contest (almost) everybody will know what this song is about and maybe vote because of the meaning of this song. I'm from the Netherlands myself and I'm not a big fan of Joost his previous work (I only liked Florida 2009 of his previous work) but this song I really like 😊 oke maybe you need to listen it a few times but it's a good song. Do I think he will win? No Do I think he will leave an important message? Yes But there is a thing called the Underdog.... and a lot of times in esc the Underdog have the odds to win.... so maybe.... maybe.... maybe he will win. We will see at esc 😉

His father passed away at age 12 from cancer and a year later his mom passed away from cardiac arrest. He lived with his brother and sister and they still play a big role in his life. I generally don't like the Dutch EuroVision submissions, but this one, i'm OBSESSED with!

I am Dutch and I think the song is brilliant. It’s without a doubt one of the best contributions ever from my country, even if we don’t win. Duncan Lawrence won for the Netherlands with a beautiful song. Last year Duncan was involved again but it was a disaster and this year we needed a major change. Well, I believe it has paid of. Thank you DJ Paul Elstak for the Techno part during the song.

Joost had always said from little boy, dad i go to the EUROSONGFESTIVAL, to sing. Than his father died when he was 12 years old, and a year later his mam. He has lived with his older sister are brother. And his passion was music and the Eurosongfestival. Now he can doing his most ideal ..... And he has his promise to his father realiseren. Thats why he is burned his ......... demons, to go further withs his life in Europe.

Για αυτό λατρεύω την eurovision, μόνο εδώ μπορείς να απολαύσεις την πρωτοτυπία σε πολλά τραγούδια, να δεις ένα χορευτικό κομμάτι που συνδυάζει και διαφορετικούς ήχους, να καταλήγει σε ποιητικους και συνάμα πανέμορφους στίχους, να αλλάζει στο τέλος εντελώς η ενορχήστρωση, σε πολλά τραγούδια φέτος να μην υπάρχει το συνηθισμένο, εδώ είναι τα κουπλε, εδώ τα ρεφρέν, εδώ η γέφυρα που τόσο έχω βαρεθεί στο σύνολο των τραγουδιών εκεί έξω και για αυτό για εμένα είναι από τις καλύτερες χρονιές που έχουν υπάρξει, γιατί πολλοί φέτος τραγούδησαν στην δική τους γλώσσα, πολλοί ρίσκαραν και δοκίμασαν καινούργια πράγματα και αυτό ελπίζω να ανταμειφθεί από το κοινό, είναι τόσο ισχυρή χρόνια που δυστυχώς το έχω οριακά εκτός δεκάδας και φαντάσου έχουμε να ακούσουμε ακόμα ισχυρές συμμετοχές, μια από αυτές θα την σχολιάσεις κιόλας είναι η Σερβία που αυτόματα μπήκε στην θέση 4 για εμένα, καλή απόλαυση να έχουμε φέτος, έχω χαρεί αφάνταστα αυτό που γίνεται φέτος και συγγνώμη για το βιβλίο που έγραψα... 😂😂😂😂
