@QuilDiv2chena this is because yoona is a midrange vocal...alto 1. altos can still hit a few high notes, but when the notes get too high the strain will be evident (will most often sing off key), or they sing in falsetto. i've studied music, and i can tell that yoona is singing from her throat and not from her diaphragm. it's like she's just talking but with a melody. this makes it even harder for her to sing high notes, and so during live performances she is heavily supported by a backtrack.

@amirisraq yoona herself admits that she is not that good in singing. she often sings with backtrack while the other members sing without. she doesn't lipsync, but it's just that her backtrack is louder compared to the others. i understand the argument of some people who say she isn't a singer. it is given that ANYONE can sing, but that doesn't automatically make one a singer. a singer can do all of these: hit the right notes, modulate the voice, project the voice, give emotion to the song.

@ekina16 she can sing...just like everyone else who isn't tone deaf. i'm not an anti, but i think the point that the opposing people were trying to make was that if you compare her to taeyeon, or jessica, she is very ordinary. i don't think they were saying she cannot sing. she can. but just not that awesome. yoona's vocal range is mid range. she can hit the notes that's no question, but seems she has difficulty given depth to her voice. it's like she's talking but with a melody. no vibratos...

@amirisraq in the case of yoona, her voice lacks depth and variation. she also lacks modulation and projection. so essentially what happens is the song doesn't have much character. as simon cowell would say, it's a karaoke-ish performance. i am not an anti, in fact i love yoona, but i'm not a blind fan. she's just like everyone else, she also has her weaknesses. for this song in particular though, you can tell she was singing well within her range, so she hits all the notes perfectly.

@ekina16 ..no modulation, in other words, her voice isn't that dynamic yet. however, in "the boys", we can see she's learning more techniques. if anything yoona simply needs to be given more opportunities to sing. that way she will be forced to practice and improve her vocals. if they just keep on giving her monotone one liners, then they won't really pay much attention to her because they'd think "that's easy to sing, no need to train you for that line"
