Adam - I'm a veterinarian, but I've enjoyed your videos. I've recently been into 3D printing and got an Anycubic i3 Mega printer. I've loved it! It's not too expensive and it's a great little machine to get started with (without spending a fortune). I started watching KZread videos about 3D printing, and somehow ended up on your channel. I was hooked! The work you do is amazing, and I appreciate that you share it with us all. Thanks so much for sharing your craft!

Wow Adam Thanks! You know I appreciate it. Love those big squares👍. Man you got that shaper looking good, I still have not cleaned under the motor on mine completely 😃. Those hard to clean and reach places seem to get missed/avoided from time to time by me. A razor blade and wd-40 works good for removing rust from cast, at least it did for me along with grey scotch bright. Your shop keeps looking better every week. Cant wait to get the new holders and put them to use. Love the update and the format. Thanks again Adam, if you need anything you know how to reach me👍

What a great gift from Adam. That's what I love about our machinist community.

Finding outdoor activities that I like to do has helped me loose weight without exercising. Small changes in my diet has helped also. Wishing you the best!

Chris Hayes , a lot of people talk about what to eat or to drink. You are one of the few who is talking about what to actually do: SPORT ! Since I've started mountain biking (I mean cross country...) I've lost more than 20 kg... Easy, funny, stress destroying, SPORT! Sport works mates.

Adam you may not be able to feel the weight lose but we can see it in your face. Keep it up Brother.

I hope you go onto to do another 800 SNS episodes and beyond. Keep it up, Adam.

That raw cast crank handle is just about what I remember from my rotation through shapers when I was an apprentice. We had G&E shapers and one handle worked all the square drive adjustments. But, as you said, the working end needs to be longer - say, about 1 1/4", maybe a bit more. Make an extension with the square drive about 1 1/2" deep and neck down the OD to fit a bored hole in your rough cast crank handle. Silver braze to assemble. The factory handle was polished all over. I remember it was smooth and nice to work with, no cast surface anywhere. It traditionally lived on the stroke position adjust on the ram. Good place for it when it's not in use. BTW, those Armstrong #40 series tool holders work best with the tool trailing. Any tool deflection tends to relieve the tool like a spring tool. Put the tool out front and it wants to dig in. Not a big deal unless you want to plow a wide groove or form a radius. Then it can be a very big deal. The Golden Rule of running a shaper or planer: Wide Cut - Trail the Tool.

Liking the clips of the beach

Steve Summers is a good honest down to earth guy. I have both donated items to his shop/channel as well as sold him a few other tools. He is quite skilled on his shaper.

Hey Adam, try to avoid the beech sounds and running water. I'm 71 years old and every time I hear water running I have to go, quickly go! I'm setting here charging up an internal stimulator for my back pain so I can't jump and run. (I'm not real serious but running water does do it to me every time) I bet Steve will really appreciate those gifts. You are a great guy Adam. Oh, keep up the great adventure trips and in my case walking every day helped along with diet. Me and my dog (and sometimes my wife) walk at least two times a day around the block. Walking is great excersise and we love to get out an do that when we can. Once of the reasons for the beach scenes.

Adam, the toolholder with the "broken bolt"........ that's just a lockscrew that jams down on top of the stud to keep the height adjuster where you set it. For that size Dickson holder, I think they were 5/16-18. Nice gift for Steve to put to use 👌

Losing pounds is the toughest thing....but it is important for you and us.

My grandfather had one of those machines years ago I remember him building handles for his out of thick flat stock , then grinding the head round then welding the same flat stock into a handle, he said by doing that he could make it any length he wanted and on top of that he said once it was dressed up it looked better then what came with the machine , just thought I would pass that long

Remember that the voltage tester isn't foolproof. If you think it is hot and the tester shows it isn't... It is propably hot.

Well done with the weight Adam. I too have suffered with my weight all my life. Things came to a crunch when I went to the hospital to get assessed for a new hip joint. The surgeon refused to do the job until I got my weight down - down a lot. Good luck sir, my best wishes go with you.

Adam, I struggled to find a pump that could drain the sump on machines I am rebuilding.... and then I tripped over it in my garage. My old wet/dry vacuum did a fantastic job cleaning out several mill sumps that were filled with stuff I can't talk about. I have had some that contained more chips then oil but the vac and/or its various extension tubes could get every drop out from every nook and crevice. I then soak with a degreaser and suck that out. Presto! Jeff

Those tool holders look like the ones on my Colchester at work. I think they are the standard for the Colchester lathes. Real easy to use and very solid. You doing a good job Adam, keep it up.

Your shaper cleaned up nicely Adam. That Dickson toolpost was on all the Colchester lathes I worked with, made out of good hardened toolsteel from the UK.

Adam, that was very nice of you to let Steve have the tool holders....good one there, I really like Steve's work too.

Cleaning that tray must have been fun. Brought back memories of working under big machines while some nearby were still running. One of my first jobs along with my cousin was cleaning under the huge steam "mangles" in a commercial laundry. (They pressed freshly laundered sheets.) Literally gallons of gooey old grease mixed with years of lint accumulation. We had to slither on our stomachs and remove the last layer of "mud" with something "caustic" that made our hands sting. That was before OSHA, but the Chief Fireman wouldn't have cared anyway. We were about 14 and 12 at the time. Too damn long ago, but not too far away.

I too am trying to loose weight, when working I was 169-172 for years on end, when I was forced to retire in 2012 (serious work injury), it seemed like overnight I jumped up to 215, I don't eat bad, I was just eating like I did when working (my job was pretty stressful, both physically and mentally, you don't realize that at the time, only when you stop and look back do get an idea of how it was), forced to slow down, that extra bit of energy not used went straight to fat.---You've got your shop looking pretty darn good, almost like you know what you're doing :-).

Congratulations on your progress! I recently finished a weight loss program with my doctor and it really helped me, it sounds like you’re on the right track. Also the videos just keep getting better and better.

Good for you Adam you set some personal goals set for the year, rotting for you, you can do it

One note of warning about those voltage detectors: They are sensitive enough to detect voltage in the line wire and NOT the neutral wires of a cord. Plug in a round extension cord and run the tip along the length a few inches. It will go off and on as it moves over the twisted conductors. You will also see this when checking the two sides of interior cable. This will lead to a nasty surprise if you check a live wire and happen to touch where a neutral or ground conductor is between the tip and the live conductor. They also won't work if you are testing the outside of MC cable.

Having also watched the blast cabinet removal video, I love Stan Z's comment about not using your brother as a power detector! :D

Great progress, I like to send models off for 3D printing, you don’t have to fight with the budget 3D printers and can get items printed in metal as well. You still get the modeling and a physical part.

I'm glad to hear that you're not on a diet, but you're making lifestyle changes. It's not necessary as fast, but it's healthier and more sustainable in the long run. Keep up the good work!

A 3D printer or even one of those small engraving mills that are popular on ebay is a great place to start (I own both a 3D printer and engraving mill). My engraving mill accepts up to 3/8th tooling, and it can easily mill out plastics, wood, and aluminum. It is a great intro to creating toolpaths and working with stock. The 3D printer is also great for 3D modeling, but there is nothing to learn for CNC toolpaths. All information learned about how to set up a 3D printer only really applies to 3D printing. Good luck in the future and learning CNC, it has been quite a process for myself and I learn more all the time.

Hey Adam! Kinda recent sub. Love your content. I have learned a lot from it. About your diet - persevering with your dietary change is the key. It takes time so keep at it. I have been trying to gain weight for years, I have no eating disorders just a crazy fast metabolism, the doctors wanted remove my thiroid or some shit but I told them give me chance to do it without. 4 years later I'm right where I should be weight wise. Best of luck I can tell it means a lot to you.

We have some beautiful beaches here.

Ah, the Dickson toolpost - those look like the t3 size, commonly fitted to Colchester’s etc over here in the uk. The wedge style aloris is infinitely superior (you can make your own holders easily) but the Dickson are what we usually have to work with over here. That one is just missing its square head bolt, nothing broken. The stud is fixed in the holder and the bolt screws down into the thumb turn thingy. You set the height then screw the lock-in bolt down to fix it all tight. Travelling to Pensacola next Sunday, looking forward to seeing your city, even though we only have Sunday night there.

That's a nice NCVT that Stan gave you. Always be sure to test the tester before you rely on it to save your life. Check it on a known hot circuit before using on an unknown circuit.

just wanted you to know, AVE recommends your channel and I am glad he did. i have seen other machinist channels and they were not nearly as fastidious as you with measurements and heard a lot of " close enough" which there is really no thing, either it is right or not. i am a subscriber of your channel and like the long videos
