udizzy: We are having an early start to our winter wonderland (finally). We have had a couple of days of snow already and yesterday was a great one. I had taken a neighbor to Wally World for some shopping and having just gotten the Vovo back from having a timing belt and water pump done (routine maintenance) and wanted to fill up the tank before our "big freeze" and put stabilizer in the tank before letting it sit for most of the winter. Well, as I am returning home with my neighbor, the temps went from 36 to 31 in less than an hour. everything just turned into a solid ice slicked road. As I am proceeding down a slight incline, there is a traffic light about a quarter of the way down the slope and I am watching the count down timer and am already in neutral and on the brakes and realized I wasn't slowing down. I have regular snows and I was full on the brakes and ABS was doing it's job and I slid through the intersection straight as an arrow. FIRST TIME in all my years of driving that I slid through an intersection while trying to stop. In my mirror I noticed another ding dong doing the happy dance when they hit the brakes (obviously didn't have ABS,) so I let off and went through almost getting clocked by 2 idiots that could see that I couldn't stop and they promptly spun out, narrowly missing other cars. I was shocked because I NEVER have problems, but since the temps dropped so quickly and I have my 4x4 Jimmy ready to go (I already took my dash cams out of the Vovo and put them in the Jimmy) so I didn't have any video to shoot, so as soon as I got home, I jumped into the Jimmy and headed back out, put it in 4 high and drove around for a while, but got cold feet after almost getting clocked by idiots so I have to edit my footage and if I can find something good (a lot of near misses) I'll send it to you. The Farmers Almanac says we are going to have a colder wetter winter. Here's to hoping I get some great vids after the last two years being a wash out. I hope you get lots of snow also and am looking forward to watching idiots try to make it up your hill. Slay safe.
